Start Issue (on Survival Level)

I've made a Spinning Bomb Survival level and I need the initial portal to be destroyed so that the player getting blown up is forced to "regenerate" at the scoreboard. Normally, you could have the portal attached to a piston that moves it to the scoreboard area, but in this case, the player(s) are started in a large ring with no way to get the portal out to the scoreboard.

My initial solution was to have the portal attached to a stiff piston that retracts very quickly into a solid surface (which breaks it).

The problem is that this solution has been glitchy, often resulting in the player immediately being sent to the scoreboard.

I've tried putting a delay on the piston

I've tried having the piston not move until you trigger a proximity switch

I've tried attaching explosives to the portal that are triggered by a switch, but that doesn't blow up the portal.

Nothing works. The result is that the level has been "aced" close to 40 times, despite that being impossible for a survival level

Any thoughts?

You can hook a switch directly to another portal or the scoreboard itself. Much easier than all that smashing and moving about. 2010-03-18 16:52:00

You can connect switch wires directly to portals or the scoreboard. Once that switch is activated from whatever conditions met like a perm switch for example, poof... the scoreboard is enabled allowing sacky once dead, to spawn at the scoreboard.2010-03-18 16:59:00

Yup. As long as the player is past the entry portal and does not re-trigger by being able to walk back by the entrance. So best to fire that logic based upon sacky going down the start hole or fired off of whatever starts your challenge.2010-03-18 17:14:00

Cool, so if I have the entrance near the top of the "ring", dropping the player to the bottom, and then have some sort of switch that both activates the spinning and the scoreboard, that should work? I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the help, and I'll update if there are any more issues


p.s. The sad thing is that in under a week, I've gotten more plays (nearly 2000) on this level (that took me under an hour to make) than I have on the level that took me 6 weeks to finish (Dark/Light)

It seems to be holding steady, as I've had over 500 plays today and it's stuck on Cool Page #3 (despite not having republished it for 7 hours).

EDIT: I changed it as suggested to limit any future glitches

Hmm... what is the name of the level, it sounds interesting and I would like to try it.

Unlike most people on this forum, I like bomb survivals if there is some new twist to them.
