Visit the Sky Factory to see your grandad at work. Just don`t go wandering off now.
I had no intention of actually creating a level when I first began to make small individual parts to it. Thre first thing I made was a final fantasy styled air ship, then about 60% of the gameplay obstacles from the level themed closely to my Phenomenal Frantic Factory level, all over the period of a few days.

This is completely the opposite to my last level as I decided to focus on fun gameplay first and work the design around that. To keep it as fun as possible with no overly frustrating parts, I decided focus the challenge of the level on achieving the maximum score possible by using point bubbles in strategic places to allow for multicplyers.

This was easily the most enjoyable to create level ive made . Creating the game play sections in another level and copying them in took away all the hastle of thinking what would be good to add next. If I create another level I will use this method again as its soo much faster.

I started this level when when poms was almost finished with Spice & Co. After testing what he had so far I noticed that you didnt have to tap R1 to launch yourself. I knew it was by dissolving the the grabbable material and emitting a mag key straight away and couldnt believe I had never thought of using similar methods for launchers, wall flippers (e.g. Zephyr Valley 2) etc. I incorporated the system into a lot the level, although it was a little tricky when I couldnt hide the dissolve out of sight.

Id like to thank the people that helped me tested and gave me feedback on the level. First id like thank pierrick_du_95 and poms for helping me test the level but also helping me better a few ideas whilst creating them in the editor. Also thanks to the others who tested and gave me honest feedback, Nathan900, thecooper08, craZy_Tito, CENTURION24, tawarf, killzonequin07, fenderjt, thi766, Cesar_72, comishguy67, JokerJohn35, Unreal_ Styrofoam, AlfieAlpha, monkeysboys, fijski8, Jrange378, comphermc, Tactical_ Gunner, smartalex69, Rafaella16 and soo many more I cant rember .

I hope you enjoy the level as much as I did creating it .

Played this the other day and thought it was very cool. I love the array of bouncing and launching that takes place. And, as usual with your levels, the visuals are crisp and enjoyable. Great balance of difficulty this time as well.

5 stars and a hearty.

Im glad you liked it . It was a lot easier to create this than Dead Space as there were no restrictions on how it should look or play. I could incoporate the gameplay I wanted, making it simpler to get the difficulty level right. Also being able to rewind without freezing from online create was a bonus .

Yeah, I just played through this one... and um... yeah... um... it was... you know. . . ohkaayyyy... I mean it's no bomb survival shark coaster... so... ... i'm just sayin', you know... um... I felt bad for you.. so um... I just went ahead and gave you 5 stars and a heart out of pity. I just figured I'd probably be the only one to give you that kind of rating. So, yeah... consider it a gift.

*********HAPPY ST PATTYS********

On a more serious note - Wow... is the best way for me to describe it. I love levels that put a smile on my face when I play them. Great job. You certainly have a thing for pipes, don't you? I mean... this level, your Mario level, and whatever you may be doing as you read this. But hey if that's what it takes to dish out High quality... do it to it.

Sky Factory is a very interesting level.
Steve you made this level very well and you sure added interesting details.
I love the concept of the level.
Your are one of the creators out there that has got away with making a level like this.
The different challenges were fun, especially the pipes throughout the level!
The intro i liked too and the fact that you end up at the beginning again at the end lol if you get what i mean!
The detail of the level is very factory like and you sure do feel like your in a sky factory.
I cannot think of any faults with the level, great gameplay, great visiuals, great fun all together!
Good job, 5 stars and a merd dunked heart!

Lol, I only noticed how the use of pipes to transport the player was similar to mario when the level was almost finished.

Thanks tia . I decided to use the start as the end of the level about midway into creating the level. Seeing as the thermo was low and I wanted something that would look detailed and interesting. The pipe transport system made it quite easy to connect the level together. Oh and thanks for the merd dunked heart lol .

Hey SBG! one more great level in you acount! Congrats!
I know you were focused in game play in this level, but its visuals are at the same or higher height.
I love EVERYTHING in this level. You lifted the bar quite up this time. I wonder if it will ever be raised higher...

Well done bud! and keep it up!!

Very cool I loved it very much. I did have one problem at the part when you are grabbing the turning gears. You get to the top and it is so dark I kept falling off into gas looking for where to go next and then finally the lights came on so maybe your global lights have bad timing or is to far away to be triggered or it was just me with 2 friends.2010-03-18 16:26:00

thanks for pointing this out. Did someone join during the pipe transport? I just increased the radius of the global lighting to make sure it doesnt happen. I also found that the glass platform that pushed the player went straight through me with 3 players. i tested over and over in the editor but it should be inpossible. As the next checkpoint is activated anyway, I glued gas to the back of the player pusher so if one player goes through it they will appear at the activated checkpoint.

Great stuff. Fantastic use of decoration. I actually think the visuals are better than the gameplay to be honest. Really innovative use of the decorations and everything just looked so crisp and smooth.

At the start where the bouncers are on the conveyor belt I liked that a lot and was looking forward to seeing what else you would do with them. I think I would have liked to see a little more of stuff like this with a bit of a twist. Related to that, I would have liked to see it ramp in difficulty just a touch more to add a bit of tension and really keep my interest.

There's no doubt the gameplay is great fun and it will be a massive hit with the community, but from my perspective, I think it could have done with just a little more challenge towards the latter end, but that's just personal preference

Only other thing that I think is worth mentioning is the bubble placements feels a little off to me in parts. With this all being about trying to get high scores, I felt in a few places that there could be a bit more flow to getting the multipliers and a few of them seemed a bit awkward. But that could just be me

Fantastic stuff anyway. Definitely my favourite of yours. Thanks!

I've no complaints about this level whatsoever, it hits pretty much everything bang on for me. The visuals are fantastic and original (i can only imagine the amount of invis dark matter going on here! lol) and and playing is a ton of fun with not a single dull moment. The way you incorporated all the pipes and bolts into the platforming, nice! Such a great flow to this level too, i love it. Some of those bubble chains are really hard to get in a combo, but they look totally possible, so major replay value here. : )

Thanks Steve, another brilliant level!!

2010 has absolutely trounced 2009 with about 5 or 6 levels better than anything I've seen in the past year, and we ar yet to be a quarter of the way through. This was the pick of the lot! Excelent in every single way. The Decoration use was incredible, with visuals that I actually prefer to the OTT visuals in Dead space, ad the gameplay was just amzing. This level is my joint all time favourite level now, and I really don't know if any level could be any better!
I will return to better my score as I'm probably knocked off the top spot by now....

Thanks for the great feedback . I thought about using the conveyor belt launchers more but didnt want it to be repetive and also I wanted to be able to fit all my other ideas into the level. When creating the level I focused more on actions that are fun to perform and that flow well. As such the level never becomes overly difficult to complete but the main challenge lies stinging the point bubbles together. Ill may try to see if slightly repositioning some bubbles may help with getting better multipliers.

There a lot of invisible dark matter to say the least:eek:. it was tricky creating the pipe launchers as invisible materials cant be corner edited and are difficult to see when selected. I always try to set the challenge of obtaining the maximum score high to begin with so that I could alway make it easier later if they are too hard to get. I tested the level a lot and have manged to get all of them, just not in the same playthough. Thanks for playing it .

It's mainly the ones on the semi-circle grab lever. The jump is way too hard to time to get them all. Maybe move them down a tad.2010-03-18 19:43:00

I republished it with some small changes a few hours ago. I always leave my levels locked on my moon and didnt unlock before updating. Its was unlocked straight after.

If you swing left then right as you let go you will gain extra momentum to reach all the bubbles. It takes practice and skill but I didnt want the high scores to become too close.

Wow, AMAZING. I didn't think the visuals would be this good!(Frantic Factory was a bit bare bones, no offense. Very fun though). Loved the creative use of decorations as platforms and the airship was phenomal

Bug(?):

When you get to a certain point in the level, a cutscene magic mouth activates and shows a view of the house. I think the grandad was meant to move next to the door then dissolve? It worked the first time I played, but the next time it just showed the house, no grandad.

This is a great level.I loved how you sort of tied the theme in with your Frantic Factory level. The gameplay was great, but yet, it still had your critically aclaimed visuals. Another thing I liked was the grandad at the beginning, it was a sackboy character, but one made with stickers instead of just a photo of your own sackperson. I've never saw that used before, ingenious idea.

I tried it... It was cool, very visually busy.. Nice clouds in the background...

However, I should mention a few glitches.

At one point, I was playing with four players, and when we went down one of those pipes (where the screen goes black), my character seemed to take precedence over everyone else's, and I seemed to stop moving. Perhaps it was glass, but I couldn't get back to the top. I respawned and the global lighting was still dark. This happened a couple of times, and also some of the gameplay seemed a bit repetitive... Visually pleasing, but I think that there quite a few glitches that could have been sorted through.

Im glad you liked the grandad character. I tried a few designs and decided to go with a simple stickered cutout. Not only did it suit the levels style but also used less thermo. Im really happy how it turned out .

Thanks for mentioning this. I think this has been fixed now, which I mentioned in a previous post. Im still testing to see anything else I could do to prevent any bugs caused by passing through materials etc.

Im not sure about a sequel. Creating something different from my other is what motivates me to create. Although I do really like this theme.

Thanks J. The small amount of time I put this together made it far more enjoyable than anything elese ive created so far. Usually they take at least twice as long to create. Creating everything first in sections and copying it in really helps a lot.

Brilliant level! I can honestly say this deserves the big spot it takes up on the highest rated page.

Steve, you are honestly one of my favorite creators I would literally quit LBP if you stopped creating. You keep LBP alive with your levels, they are unprecedented. IMO, you are simply the best and It's an honor to have someone with so much talent, dedication and hard work behind his name on my friend list. Every level of yours makes me go "now why didn't I think of that?" lol.

Gameplay wise this level is definitely your best, Dead Space still remains your most beautiful though. My favorite thing about playing this one was how refreshing and original it was, a level made almost entirely of decorations... Great great idea! The boat at the beginning was really detailed and I especially loved how you ended the level where it began, something I haven't really seen many creators do, and again very original.

I remember spending ages on Flaming TImberland 2 setting it up so that happened and no one even noticed Most people just thought the scoreboard at the start was just for effect (what effect I don't know!) haha

Great level again Steve.

Brilliant design as always and excellent use of decorations. Some very good gameplay elements too.

The only downside to it is because there are so many moving things in it the level is extremely laggy. I played it in 3 player earlier and it made things very difficult, just about impossible to get all 3 players through any section without lots of deaths. Even when I played it yesterday on my own it was still very laggy and it just makes it less enjoyable than it should be.

Still great work though.

My favorite thing about playing this one was how refreshing and original it was, a level made almost entirely of decorations... Great great idea! The boat at the beginning was really detailed and I especially loved how you ended the level where it began, something I haven't really seen many creators do, and again very original.

5 Stared/Hearted.
Im very happy you liked the gameplay .Ive never actually focused my previous levels around gameplay. It was always a mix of what looks good but yet is still fun to play. With this level I focused fully on creating fun gameplay, regardless of how it looked. I wouldnt have done this in the past, but now feel that im skilled enough to dress up any gameplay ideas I have so they always seem intesting. The idea of using main decorations to add detail to a level was something I really wanted to try out while making dead space. As its something ive never tried it was very enjoyable to do so.

Thanks for playing it and mentioning the spelling error in my comment section. Ive changed it now :hero:. There should only be slowdown at the swinging section near the end and only during the lower phase. The rest of the level drops under the 30fps the games capped at, but only by a few frames which arnt really noticeable.

Great, really fun gameplay all around, never frustrating just always fun. Wonderful visuals too. I played with 1 other person and didn't experience any lag at all, so it was all good for me.
Glad it wasnt frustrating. Its really meant for 1 player but I tried to keep it as multiplayer friendly as possible. Due to the fast nature of the level, other players can be left behind creating annoying camera issues.

I don't know if anyone pointed it out already but aside from the rest of the awesomeness I really liked the orange glow on the bottom of the level. Nice artistic touch. Other than that it's absolutely awesome. Did I mention awesome?
THATS AWESOME. I tried the clour filters but it just didnt look right, so I decided to use giant spotlights set to fog to light the lower portion of the screen. It helps a lot in keeping it seem more interesting and works well with the 3d layer clouds.

Amazing fun, Steve! Super visuals, great gameplay, and a nice little story to boot! I also like the pipes that took you around the level, they were very mario-esque. An easy 5 stars and a heart! I can't wait for another level!2010-03-21 01:47:00

You know what I really liked about this level? The fact that you hardly had to run anywhere. Most of the gameplay was bouncing around BOING BOING!

Favorite parts would have to be the springboards on the conveyor belts. Challenging and fun trying to keep the pace of the moving boards! Lovely scenery and decoration use. Also really digging the "deathless" transportation system used, too! Felt like the Mario games lol.

5 stars!

Im glad you like the bouncy gameplay. I made the level that I wanted to play.

I really dont like using gas to transport the player if I can do so without killing them. I was using gas up until the level was almost finished as it needed to aligned so that I could connect the pipe transport system together. Theres a limit on how fast you can push the player without them going through the material moving them. Thankfully by creating all the gameplay first and copying it in I could get the layout so The player wouldnt have to be transported too far. Im really pleased how it ended up .

Interesting level. This level reminds me of the "Super Mario Bros" games the way you enter the pipes and transported to another area. Great platforming and great visuals. :>
P.S. Speaking of Super Mario Bros, I really enjoy your other level "Super Mario Bros. PS3". The character designs are awesome and the level really feels like a Super Mario Bros game.

Why are best creators always friends? I mean like SteveBigGuns, Poms, Killzonequinn07, Nathan900, ruof, JakePutz and everything like that? Anyway this was the most beautifull level and second best level in whole lbp (so far). Favourite is Poms' spice & CO2010-04-15 11:26:00

Wow, I'm stupid for not playing this earlier. This is a really great level. You said you focused on gameplay on this and not on visuals, but I would consider this your best looking level, although I haven't played ALL of you other levels. Great work. 5 stars and hearted.2010-04-16 12:05:00

It's really awesome how you keep imagining levels, all so great!

Sky factory is one of the best levels I ever played in LBP. Visual and gameplay is awesome.
You can be proud to be the creator of this!

One thing: I got stuck in the first pipe, and everything was dark. so I had to restart, but I passed the 2nd time.
