Nice! I'll be sure to check yours out too | 2010-03-18 03:59:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Alright, I just played this. It looked absolutely amazing. Some of the effects you did were amazing. The intro was great, too. The whole level was great. It may not be the most action packed level, it's more of a cinematic sorta thing, but it's awesome. Most of my complaints come from the boss. First off, I couldn't really see it. I was really just aiming the cannons up and hoping to hit something. I felt as if I was guessing my way through the whole thing. The second part of the boss fight, I had no clue what it's weak spot was because there were so many sounds going on at one time and I couldn't hear the sound effect that plays when you hit the paint ball switch with the Paintinator. Aside from that, I loved it. I must admit, I was surprised. This level wasn't what I expected coming from you, which is incredibly eccentric and unpredictable, but this level was great regardless. My favorite part was the part right before the boss. You really set up the fight well. Real nice level design. I gave it 4 stars and a heart, as well as a "complex" tag. Also, I hearted you. Didn't know why I hadn't before, I really liked Silent Hill in the Butt and Fallout 3 Abridged Halloween Fun and revisit them often. Oh, and the part in....I think it's Silent Hill In the Butt where you get attacked by Bill Cosby and Richard Simmonses is one of my favorite LBP moments ever. And since you're doing F4F, I'd be honored if you played my latest level. | 2010-03-18 05:22:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
Thanks, Awesomemans. Glad you made it through okay. I'll tweak the boss a bit so players can get through it easier. As for the second part, I'll make a paintinator switch visible on one of the weak spots. I'm glad you like Silent Hill in the Butt and my Fallout 3 tribute. Lol, Richard Simmons & Bill Cosby! They're out to get everyone!! XD Thanks for playing | 2010-03-18 07:25:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Great level. I really liked the puzzles and how they are integrated in your level. Gameplay is very fluid, up untill the boss fight. The visual style is very atmospheric. The background with the green lights and reliefs (near the end where you swim to the surface) is very nice. As mentioned above, I also had some trouble with the first part of the bossfight (you don't know where you should aim.) I really like the design of the second part boss. If you have the time for F4F it would be great if you could try out one of my levels. | 2010-03-19 08:01:00 Author: pickled-punk Posts: 598 |

The background with the green lights and reliefs (near the end where you swim to the surface) is very nice. Why thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. As mentioned above, I also had some trouble with the first part of the bossfight (you don't know where you should aim.) I really like the design of the second part boss. The first part of the boss fight seems to be a reoccuring problem. I'll get to tweaking it ASAP. Thanks for playing it If you have the time for F4F it would be great if you could try out one of my levels. Sure, I'll get crackin at it right now. | 2010-03-19 08:15:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Updated: First part of boss made easier which in turn is less likely to have the player question themselves if they're doing the right thing or not. Added some visuals here and there. Level is now on the brink of overheat, ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh | 2010-03-19 10:11:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Um... what's happening, I've been waiting inside the lobby at the beginning for the ten minutes but nothing's hapenning. | 2010-03-19 18:17:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
O_o jump down lol *edit* Whoops sorry! My mistake. I messed up the beginning a bit. It's fixed now. Sorry!! | 2010-03-19 22:41:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Heyy, I've just played it :hero: I liked it alot, I found it a bit short but really intense. Boss battles were really clever, you must've spent a lot of time and effort on it. Explosions inside the mine with the rocks that are smashed to pieces...that was stunning ! Great job ^^ | 2010-03-20 12:19:00 Author: Oddmania Posts: 1305 |
Thank you, Oddmania, for giving it a second try. Yeah, I woke up one day and I was like hey I could really make a crazy boss battle with the water! and I just watched Tim Burton's 9 so I decided to combine the 2 together and have it based around the boss battle I had in mind.. I also tried focusing on simple puzzles but those you don't normally see in other levels. In the end some parts took a while to smooth out the edges so to speak and I think the boss battle took the most time to make with all the logic I had to come up with and how I could make it happen as I'm not very experienced in making bosses as this was my second boss I've made (my first one sucked lol). Glad you enjoyed it! I'll give one of your levels a whack tomorrow as it is dreary late | 2010-03-20 12:29:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Update: Tweaked some logic & changed some visuals. | 2010-04-05 00:27:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |

Thank you RiseOvBaphomet! This level is my pride and joy right now LOL. Let's see if I can top it with my next level. | 2010-04-08 01:03:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
I just played through this level of yours. It was great! I really liked the silhouette effect later on in the level, and my favorite part had to be the mine cart scene, with everything exploding around you. You created some great dynamic effects, and some amazing cave ins. The boss was also very cool and true to the source material. Awesome level! | 2010-04-08 17:54:00 Author: Duffluc Posts: 402 |
Thank you, Duffluc. Happy to hear you made it through okay. Thanks for your positive feedback and playing my level! I'll F4F you now. | 2010-04-08 20:17:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
You really do have an Artists' touch... elegant and in this case explosive. I apologize- not gonna give you a full review... although this level was the one that ultimately made me decide to heart you as a creator. good stuff! I must confess though I never got a good look at the thing I destroyed just kept blast away at its upper extremities? Yeah, I died a lot! | 2010-04-08 20:32:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
I absolutely love 9! So I'll definitely play this later. | 2010-04-09 01:45:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Good level. heart from me.. I liked the solid platforming and gameplay. I liked the special effects (mine cart and the door at the beggining.) I didn't like the randomish story, it wasn't really related to 9, it just felt like you had added the intro to a non-story level. | 2010-04-09 18:34:00 Author: Fallonjam Posts: 29 |
X-FROGBOY-X - Good to hear. Hope you like it Fallonjam - Glad you liked the level. Yeah, the story doesn't really coincide with the movie. But neither does "Prototype 0", which is you. I wanted the player to imagine if there really was a prototype 0 in the movie, is this what he would've gone through? Maybe he was a rogue number, and was never mentioned in the movie because he was never known.. and that he traversed across countless perils to find the meaning of this existence.. he maybe he was just a precursor that had no emotion and just kept on killing because that's all 0 knew what to do. Theres a number of vague ways here to relate the level to the story and I wanted the player to decide on a theory that fits best for them. | 2010-04-09 21:12:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Played it there, great level. I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen 9 or have any clue what it's about so I wasn't sure exactly what I was fighting at the end if that ties in somehow? I couldn't hear the noise when it was being damaged that's the only thing that bugged me but that's probably just me being whiny. Had atmosphere and visuals were lovely, good stuff! | 2010-04-09 21:51:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
X-FROGBOY-X - Played your automatic point system level. Really neat idea. Hearted it just for my convienience. OneEyedBanshee - Glad you enjoyed it. Hmm, I'll probably add more of the same sound effects so it's louder if it lets me without overheating . Don't really want to make the paint switches visible because I think it ruins the integrity of how the boss looks. Thanks for playing! | 2010-04-09 22:42:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Yeah I don't think the switches should be visible. The material difference makes it pretty easy to tell which bit is vulnerable and you need to shoot at. Just a bit hard to tell when you hitting it/ how close it is to dying. | 2010-04-10 00:49:00 Author: OneEyedBanshee Posts: 1370 |
Hey MrTran! I played this last night before I went to bed and it was very good. I like the use of the paintanator, how it was more about using it to press switches then to shoot enemies. I also really liked how in the part where you shoot the branches to let the next platform fall, you only put the paint switch visible the first time instead of putting it visible every time. the visuals were very good, I really liked the look of the part where it was all shadow. The only snag I ran into was when you grab the cloth to bring down the branch so the paintanator falls off, it wouldn't. It did eventually but only after several tries. It even made me go back because I wasn't sure if there was something else I was suppose to do to help it go down. Overall it was an awesome level! Though not quite as good as your "What happens when you run out of lives in LBP" level If you get a chance I updated Retro Retribution, I am still trying to figure out how you fell off the level so that problem might not be fixed but a bunch of the other issues are. | 2010-04-10 18:38:00 Author: shebhnt Posts: 414 |

Just a bit hard to tell when you hitting it/ how close it is to dying. Yeah, I added more sound thingies so it screeches louder when you hit the weak spot (probably enough to blow your speakers. No, I'm just kidding. Heh, heh... o_o). shebhnt: I played this last night before I went to bed and it was very good. Thanks friend, anyway, I played through it earlier, it was nice. The bosses were cool, and it had some unique gameplay ideas. I liked the part where you shot the sled to go upwards, and the sillhoutte parts were cool. :star::star::star::star::star: | 2010-04-13 01:04:00 Author: X-FROGBOY-X Posts: 1800 |
Thanks X-FROGBOY-X for playing! Actually, thank you for playing most of my levels lol! | 2010-04-14 06:51:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
I have just played the level. Overall, I found it great, and gave you 5 stars. The atmosphere is awesome, and the intro helps a lot to do so. There are awesome parts, as the gondola (and more its fall hehe). I love levels where things get broken, and your level does it very well. There are several things that you could take into account to improve the level. For example, there are few platform challenges. You could add some platform games that challenge the player a bit. Regarding the boss, it is quite good, but there is room for improvement in my oppinion. The first part is too easy, I don't know even if there is something that may kill you. I just had to find out how to use the canyon and the rest was trivial. Nevertheless the second part is insane. There is something shoting plasma balls, but it is not clear what you are suposed to do. Where do you have to shoot? What is happenig (besides you are dying a lot hehe)? In summary, I think the boss is not well balanced, firstly too easy and later too hard. But don't worry, overall the level is really cool Since you are doing F4F, when you can take a look at my las level, "The tanks factory". In many senses is similar to this level. | 2010-04-14 12:49:00 Author: onturenio Posts: 138 |

There are awesome parts, as the gondola (and more its fall hehe). I love levels where things get broken, and your level does it very well. Thanks, I put a lot of effort in the atmosphere, getting it just right. Yeah, I do think I mastered breaking things in my levels intentionally and unintentionally LOL so thanks for noticing There are several things that you could take into account to improve the level. For example, there are few platform challenges. You could add some platform games that challenge the player a bit. Regarding the boss, it is quite good, but there is room for improvement in my oppinion. The first part is too easy, I don't know even if there is something that may kill you. Where do you have to shoot? What is happenig (besides you are dying a lot hehe)? In summary, I think the boss is not well balanced, firstly too easy and later too hard. There aren't a lot of platform challenges, I agree. But there are a lot of puzzle challenges. I wanted the player to think more than you would in a level from the start, because of the "insight" I mentioned 0 (which is you) to have. Although, I try to mix it up and have some parts thinking and some parts action/sit back experience hence the gondola & mine cart so the player doesn't get flustered by too many puzzles. Ultimately, I think you're right. The level could use more platforming challenges and if the thermo wasn't so full then I surely would've continued the adventure into the desert/pyramids. Maybe I'll create a sequel in the future. Maybe. Regarding the boss, yes, I do think the first part is too easy. Although, the fists can kill you, they're on the sides so you'd have to make some effort to get yourself killed. However, with the constant rocking/swaying of the island, adding additional hazards would prove frustrating for the player. It's already much to have a piece of land rocking so harshly and coupled with the fact that the average player most likely (I think) hasn't experience anything quite like this adds enough disorientation and I don't want to potentially frustrate/confuse the player by adding more hazards in this part. The second part however, I would have to disagree. I don't think this part is very hard at all. You can switch planes to avoid the plasma balls & when you're shooting, you can identify the correct spot to shoot by listening to the screeches of the monster. Hence, using making the player to use their insight. I realize you do have to keep track of where you are at all times, where the plasma balls are going to hit, and where your shots are making a difference sometimes all at once but having a second plane to switch to makes the battle pretty easy. It's just a matter of patience and observation. But don't worry, overall the level is really cool Since you are doing F4F, when you can take a look at my las level, "The tanks factory". In many senses is similar to this level. Thanks for your feedback! If there was more thermo, I would definitely add more gameplay, but sadly there is not. Oh well, you win some, you lose some Thanks for playing. I'll take a shot at your tank level a bit later. | 2010-04-14 13:49:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Hi, I played you level again. You was right, if you change of layer, the boss becomes much easier and funnier . The problem was that I didn't noticed that you could change of layer. Perhaps because this part of the level is dark, and many things move at same time... anyway, the second play was definitely much better. There is nevertheless and important point. Have you modified the boss? Yesterday, when I played first time, the boss looked very different to today (in fact today looks great, but yesterday looked weird). Perhaps something went wrong in the explosions when you beat the first part of the boss, and the second boss got seriously damaged. Take a look, because maybe is a bug | 2010-04-15 09:45:00 Author: onturenio Posts: 138 |

Hmm hmm hmm! Perhaps the second part of the boss got damaged somehow you say? Well, that certainly is strange. From all my playtesting, I've never encountered that. One in a million, I suppose. If theres any more of this reported, I'll be sure to look into it as it probably happens once in a full moon. Just out of curiousity, did you finish the level first time around? | 2010-04-15 11:24:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
Ok, then I'm completely sure, something went wrong first time . If you remember my words There is something shooting plasma balls, but it is not clear what you are supposed to do. Where do you have to shoot? its obvious something went wrong. In fact, the boss looked like an ensemble of things joined together without any form (for that reason I said "something"). There was no sound that could let you know that you was damaging the beast, and I needed a lot of shoots to defeat it (I could finish the level). For that reason I found so frustrating this part. Also the end was different, I think. I don't remember to have seen the large up arrows when you are about to finish the level the first time... weird. Unfortunately I did not take any snapshot to show you what happened | 2010-04-15 11:46:00 Author: onturenio Posts: 138 |

Yes, I remember that. But "something" could've been anything. For all I knew, something could've been the boss itself like how I created him. People have been saying that they don't hear the sound when it's being hit. After I updated it, I made sure it could clearly be heard. So I assumed, it was some tiny glitch that you didn't hear it. If you could defeat it then I don't see how you couldn't have made it to the scoreboard the first time around. It's unfortunate that happened the first time you played and very mysterious as I haven't made any modifications anywhere near the boss. | 2010-04-15 12:01:00 Author: MrTran Posts: 216 |
