Level Icon Quality!! (not ratio)

Archive: 11 posts

Ok, I've been having this problem since I first took pic and set first level icon, but everytime I set one the quality of the icon is not the same as the quality when you go to view About My Level.

On my moon and in my profile the icon shows fuzzy-like, like distorted.

I checked LBPC search and all I found was a thread on how to fix the aspect ratio so the image isn't strecthed, but that did nothing for icon clarity.

And I know not everyone in LBP is using an eye cam, and even then an eye cam can't take in game photos.

So what is going on with the icon quality? Does anyone know a solution?

As for my older level icons, they did same thing at first, but then when I log in the next day the icons are suddenly more clear, then after days they look almost normal. Even after hours they became a little more clear.

But the current one for my next level I'm releasing is not getting any more clear.

So why aren't my icons on my moon and in profile as clear as the actual pic in the About My Level icon shows? Other peoples profiles are. Does anyone know the answer? I would greatly appreciate the help.

Sorry for the bump, but this is a major problem that's plagued me for a long time.

Does anyone know at all? The icons from the other day now appear fairly clear. It's as though they always look unclear after publishing and need time to come clear.

Does anyone know anything about this? I'm not going to keep bumping. But it was buried pretty fast, so not sure how many seen my help request, lol.

It's probably unclear looking because when it's not in the "About my Level" area, the game applies a yarn looking texture to the badge to make it look like it's made out of cloth. If it appears low resolution, the game probably just needs to take time to load everything.2010-03-20 20:28:00

Yeah, well as for the yarn thing, I know that, but everyone else has that too and theres look clear.

Maybe there's some technique I don't know about that makes the pic turn out clear. I don't know, lol.

I don't know exactly what your level badge contains but I tried before to take photos of objects and they'd always turn out fuzzy, but when taken again using front view they were much clearer.2010-03-21 23:03:00

i had an error where I took a photo in game for a badge and when i looked at it, it had somehow taken a picture of just the material behind it. I took it again and it started to work. Maybe by simply redoing it might help? It could be some kind of glitch on your version of LBP or PS3. To find out it if it's your PS3 try taking your copy of LBP to a friend who has a PS3 and try it their. To check if it's your disc, have a friend who has LBP bring it over and try it on their copy.2010-03-21 23:52:00

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's happened to me a couple of times, too. It looks faded after you edit it but eventually, the icon will look very sharp and opaque when you go back to edit it a little layer. I'm also puzzled by this...but it seems to be very clear once it's published. I don't know what the problem is though...2010-03-22 01:49:00

Thanks everyone. Yeah it's a mystery. I should ask players with clear icons if their icons showed faded at first.

@Ayneh:

I've done front mode. That suggestion was in the thread about icon ratio. It doesn't really make much a difference at all. It is an object, but it's a flat object. The initials of the level were done in flat stickered dissolve material. Surrounding the initials is also flat dissolve in same thin layer, so the initials are placed in/cut into the surrounding dissolve. But that's how I did my recent icon. All of my icons have had this problem except one, which was the one I did with darkness set to completely dark, with a light set on all sides of icon, but the lights were part of the icon, lol. So I didn't set the darkness or lights to try and make a clear icon.

@shebhnt:

Yeah, I deal with a lot of glitches, some that people say they never experience. Most of those glitches are in play mode. Also, I redo the icon over and over. Never helps. I even try differnt tricks and ideas and while it alters the coloring a bit, it doesn 't change the fadedness. I've even had a friend show me on my moon how he does his, which comes out clear, and mine didn't using the same technique he does, lol. Must be glitched.

@Night Angel:

Mines like that even after publishing, but they do clear up a bit after an hour to multiple hours.

@Chicoleunis:

Well that's what I thought, but my friend that I mentioned to shebhnt this same post saw the icon faded like I do. I showed him icon from my pod in both moon and published levels (profile).

It sounds like it might just be your disc then, but before buying another copy, see if you could borrow/rent a copy to make sure the glitch happens on that copy too.2010-03-28 07:06:00

So..
I had this fuzzy problem as well..
Eventually i did manage to get a very very crisp shot..
will this mean that people's eyes will go bleeding due to it being upbersharp after publishing
