Archive: 13 posts

what are your favorite kung-fu movies. I personally love the original Ong-Bak and can't wait to get myself a copy of the second. Any suggestions, or recommendations? Also what about Westerns(didn't want to make two threads) first say what class Western or Kung-Fu and tell us... please!2010-03-17 02:12:00

Westerns :
Well you can't go far wrong with anything with Clint Eastwood in. I've just rewatched the 2 'dollars' films and have The Good,The Bad and The Ugly recorded. I've seen them umpteen times before but they're still great. Also his more modern ones like Pale Rider and Unforgiven are great too.

One must see Western has to be 'Once upon a Time in the West' with a host of big names in it.

Kung Fu :
I agree about Ong-Bak. That's excellent. The 2nd one is great too and I hope we see plenty more from Tony Jaa. He's very good.

I have to recommend the obvious of course: Bruce Lee. You can't mention Kung Fu without thinking of the master himself.

If you've never seen it I would also recommend the original tv series titled 'Kung Fu' and starring a young David Carradine ( long before Kill Bill ). It's more cerebral than all out action but there's still plenty of action in parts and well worth seeing from the beginning if you can get hold of the DVD's. They should still be available because I bought the complete set just a few years ago.

The Shogun Assassin is my favourite Kung-Fu movie by far, its full of quotes from the old Wu-Tang Clan albums too. Also, 36 Chambers is a good kung-fu movie but i think thats quite hard to get hold of to be honest.2010-03-17 08:16:00

The best kung-fu movie is obviously KUNG POW!!!
Sorry couldn't resist

I do quite like the Kill Bill series and Ong-Bak, there was another movie I really liked but can't remember the name.
It stars this girl (who is a natural expert at Kung-Fu but no-one knows) her brother and her mum, their mum got cancer so her daughter and son tried to get money to pay for treatment. They come across a book of people who owe their mum money so they go and find these people to get the money but there gangsters and whatnot so the girl starts fighting them. there's more to it but I watched it a while ago and can't remember it all.

EDIT: I just remembered that it's called "Chocolate"

Wu reppin'!!!! "My father was the greatest samurai in the empire... he cut off the head of a thousand lords... he wasn't scared of the emperor, but the emperor was scared of him" ***or something like that*** so rad.

Tony Jaa is already spoken for... so I gotta bring it back to THE LAST DRAGON!

If you loved ong bak (and of course you did, it's impossible not to) you need to watch Chocolate. I think it was released in 2009. it was made by the same people so there are some nice references, and it retains the no-stunt double, no special effects badassery that you craaaave.

Summary from Yahoo: An autistic girl with intense fighting skills discovers a list of debtors in her horribly ill mother's diary and decides to go collecting, only to find herself up against an organized crime ring.

Yup, pretty much.

Haha, just noticed that someone already posted about this.

It bears repeating though.

And hey, while I'm at it, if you haven't seen the Magnificent Seven you're seriously missing out on some quality Western film.

It certainly does deserve repeating, it really is quite an amazing movie.

Heh, if you're nuts about Westerns (sorta like me ), I'd recommend Lonesome Dove. And I don't mean all of the short shows you see from time to time, I mean the 4-5 hour-long movie about it. Excellent story and dialogue, if I say so myself. Also, Tombstone is a great Western to see, also.

As for Kung-Fu... the only thing I can think of is Kung-Pow! Enter the Fist xD. It makes absolutely no sense, but it's a very funny movie and is, well... you'll just have to see yourself, now, would you?
