| Last time I checked I was 180cm but I've grown since then so I'll say 182cm tall which is about 5' - 11 7/10" and i'm still growing so 6 feet here I come! You start with the inch, which is too large a unit to do anything with accurately, so for the sake of convenience, you split that down into 8ths or 16ths. Then 12 inches makes a foot, 3 feet makes a yard and 1760 yards makes a mile. You see, the beauty of the imperial system is that it's not boring or sensible like the metric system, where everything is in base ten and the naming is consistent. Each time you get a new unit it's a different multiple of some other unit, so it might be 12, or 3, or 8, or 16, or 1760, or 14, or 2000. If you're really lucky you'll come across ones where the units don't fit into each other exactly! You just don't know what it's going to be - so it's exciting and keeps you on your toes.
