Idea for importing custom textures as stickers...

Archive: 11 posts

I need some confirmation on this idea. It's a bit out there, but I think I developed a method to import custom made stickers on your PC into LBP, but I'd need someone else's tech knowledge to tell me if it would work or not.

If I took a VGA to USB converter, and hooked the VGA part to my PC video card, and the USB part to the PS3, would the PS3 read that as a webcam feed? If it does, I in theory could display an image in fullscreen on my PC and it would come out on LBP as the webcam feed, which can be captured as a sticker. I'd like to know, would that work? It seems kind of wild, but somewhat logical, but I'd like to go through with it.

I'd like to hear some feedback. If you can help with changing how the setup would be, please tell any changes that should be made to hopefully make it work.

EDIT: I'm posting here asking for a confirmation because I am low on cash and don't have a VGA to USB converter, I was curious if someone else had one and could try it or tell me if it's impossible or not if you a have a technical background.

I was under the impression that LBP only allows you to use the psEye, not any webcam. Because of some technical issue *cough*sony profit*cough*2010-03-16 20:51:00

Oh, well that sucks. I took that into account just now, searched online, and found that the PS3 will accept only 3 cameras. The PSEye, the EyeToy, and the Logitech C250. Oh well.

I'll have to try that, angling the screen down. I've had a terrible time with resolution otherwise.

Well, if you made your own VGA to USB adapter with a driver chip from one of those cameras, wouldn't it work?

EDIT: Just found out that the PS# should support the USB video standard. So, this should work!!

I doubt that would work, but in theory you should be able to fake the output from a PS Eye with some PC software, since, according to this (http://nuigroup.com/forums/viewthread/2921/), someone's already reverse-engineered the protocol. Looks like he's unwilling to share the source code though, unless someone donates $15,000.

Probably not worth the effort though, as you can use one of the old PS2 EyeToys just fine, and you can pick them up for as little as $1 these days.
