Modern Warfare 2 DLC AKA What the heck is wrong with these people!

Archive: 35 posts

Okay, so there is this contest going between MW2 DLC and BBC2 DLC. Know, While BBC2 has only 2 new maps compared to MW2's five maps, there's are free. And on the other hand, MW2's DLC is only, oh, 15 ******* DOLLARS! IS INFINITY WARD CRAZY! THAT'S HOW MUCH 25% OF THE ACTUAL GAME COSTS!2010-03-16 16:00:00

Yeps, it's pretty absurd. But seeing how obsesssed with MW2 most of my friends are they'll buy it anyway. 2010-03-16 16:15:00

In the MW2 pack isn't it 3 new and 2 recycled from MW1?

Also blame activision for the price.

They can stick it for me, almost a tenner over here for something I got bored of months ago. I'd buy new Spec Ops missions without any hesitation, but this stinks of cash in.

Mapathy they called it, its more cash-apathy to me I'm afraid.

technically it's only 3 new maps for me for 13 euros because I already payed for 2 of them.

Funnily Enough no one complained about the Fallout 3 DLC, why? Because ITS WORTH IT. All of that (In pounds) together is about ?40 That's how much the game is in the first place! So to be honest. Only buy DLC when it's worth it. Like Fallout 3 DLC.2010-03-16 20:10:00

If it actually added new content, it would be worth the price. But 3 dollars a map, that's just ridiculous.

Also, since Actvision decided to bring strippers and pole dancers to GDC to promote True Crime, maybe this is just to pay off the cost.

While you rant on about the price, people are still going to get it, congratulations. You will be complaining like all the other people who will turn out to be hypocrites.2010-03-27 20:26:00

Because Activision are money-stealing ********.
This isn't uncommon, I mean look what they've done with guitar hero.

That's my opinion.

That's not the problem here though. The problem is that it's overpriced, there's no two-ways about it.

There's also a new mode, which is essentially "capture the nuke." with this in mind, considering it's a rather large addition to a (rather broken, mediocre, but still) large online multiplayer game, it's mildly understandable.

But not really.

In short, try it at a friend's or something before you decide if it's worth it or not.

1. I also said that is my OPINION. I love Modern Warfare 2. Many people don't on LBPC, but that is my opinion. Many people hate Modern Warfare 2 and it's $15 DLC map pack, and I don't. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.

2. Battlefield 1943 was released last June and was $15.00 US. It had 3 maps, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Wake Island, and only 1 game type. It had glitches, and had no perks and cheats. But Modern Warfare 2's DLC pack has a lot more too it. I'm suprised nobody started ranting about that instead of this. I still play BF 1943 now and then, but Modern Warfare 2 is a lot better. So many people play it and love it that Infinity Ward and Activision want to experiment with the consumers to see how much they would spend. It's plain business.

ok... Maybe if i could play the maps without MW2 that would be a valid argument.... You require the game to play them and have any use for them at all, meaning you have already spent ?40+ already. BF1943 was a full (albeit small) game in itself, and was worth the price.

Was better than MW2 is as well...

And what is the point in 'experimenting with how much consumers will pay' when most of them hate you already/ They should be releasing it cheap to get some back on their side rather than the other way around.

But shockwave...

Why are you content to pay 25% of the actual game for new maps?

Seem's more like a general trend in the videogaming industry rather then just a specific company. Bottomline, they just want to squeeze as much money out of their success as possible and DLC is one of the easiest ways to do it.

Bioshock 2's DLC actually already existed in the game files and consisted of just 2 new usable characters in multiplayer along with a higher level cap but you have to pay extra for it anyway.

LBP itself has a ton of DLC and MM definately knows at least someone out there will have a "gotta catch 'em all!" mentality and shell out a ton of cash for just costumes alone.

And of course, there are a lot of games now with pre-order content that you can only get by shelling out extra money for a limitied time.

Not much to do about it but hope the trend dies down.

Microsoft today confirmed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus Package has shattered Xbox LIVE records as more than one million gamers worldwide downloaded the new map pack from Activision and Infinity Ward in the first 24 hours alone, surpassing the 2.5 million mark within the first week.

Considering that the new pack cost 1200 MS points, we are guessing that it has made Activision a pretty penny. Remember that the pack has still to be released on the PlayStation Network as it is exclusive to Xbox LIVE for a month, therefore Activison can expect even more money in the bank.

It just goes to show that people will pay anything the publishers ask, even if on this occasion the price may very well be a bit over the top.

To hell with DLC. Look at Team Fortress 2. Valve has added tons of updates, maps, and game modes, all for the low, low price of free.2010-04-08 03:24:00

its Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare not Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 1

and yes they got the best maps EVER from cod4 an put them into a map pack

And that there folks is proof that a small portion of customers to IW doesn't mean anything, they're making money and that's the thing that's important. And reality is, you would probably do the same in their shoes.

Yeah, but how is BF 1943 better than MW2 though? Seriously. The only people that 'hate' Modern Warfare 2 that I know are you guys. Every other person I have communicated with know and love Modern Warfare 2. I am telling 100% truth.
The 60 bucks US is worth it for Modern Warfare 2 and the 15 bucks US is DEFINETLY worth it for the 3 DLC maps.

But.... I also heard that the DLC map pack comes with 5 maps, with two ones being released from COD 4: Modern Warfare. It says on the page http://kotaku.com/5493218/modern-warfare-2-map-pack-also-features-ridiculous-price Yeah, but it also says a ridiculous price. Oh, well.
I can't really argue or anything on LBPC. The results end up being 123-1

Can I just remind you not to take this out on infinity ward. Besides the fact that infinity ward are in a struggle themselves with Activision, and they have been taken off the call of duty license. It will of been Activisions idea to price the game at what it is. and well Activision haven't made very good decisions lately. DJ hero, Band hero, Tony hawks ride, Shaun whites skateboarder (everyone knows about him as a snowboarder, but Activision are making a skateboard game with him so it can use the ride board)

So yeah blame Activision 150%
