Magic Mouths.... in Korean?!?

Archive: 12 posts

So, in one of the levels I'm making I have a certain character who only speaks Korean (yes, I've probabl;y just given away what my secret project is. Buit nevermind about that now). I want this character to say something in Korean, so I'm trying to find out if it's possible to use Korean text in a magic mouth.

The most I've been able to do so far is change the system language to Korean which allows me to send PSN and messages and stuff in Korean, but the text keypads in LBP are still in English.

Any ideas? Is it possible to do or would I need to have a Korean version of LBP or something?

Odd. I'm sure someone said this was possible with Japanese just by changing the system language. The other thing which might work is getting a USB keyboard with a Korean key layout.

Try looking up romanization of Korean so you can use letters from a standard keyboard.

Or maybe you can translate into Korean with the Babel Fish website, save it in a text file, and paste it into LBP somehow?

You could always write something like *Incomprehensible English* or *I cannot understand what he's saying...*
I did this in one of my levels.

Is this a 'Lost' level?

Maybe you can find someone from Korea and ask him to send you some magic mouths filled with the test you want.2010-03-15 09:19:00

I would hazard a guess that your PS3 system knows that it is originally a European/US system (wherever you are), and therefore assumes East Asian language localisation of LBP is unnecessary.
Syroc's idea seems good though.

The problem is I can't seem to paste text into LBP. I can type in Korean by changing the system language but only in PSN messages and stuff. LBP text input appears English and the copy and paste buttons don't seem to do anything.

Wouldn't really work in the way I want to use it though. It's only worth me doing it at all if I can have him say it in actual Korean.

Oh, and...... it might be.

I did think about doing that, but I can't imagine it would be easy to find someone. I don't fancy doing a search for Korean levels then messaging each creator, I get enough "help me with my level" messages myself to know how annoying they are.

I might just not bother with it at all. It's only meant to be a lol moment anyway so it's not very important to the rest of the level. I might just wait to use them later in th level/s when the character has learnt English.

Confirmed. The Japanese and Korean IMEs were added in Cornish Yarg. It still works for Japanese, but it seems that Korean no longer does.

You can't copy and paste from a PSN message because it has a separate paste buffer from the one used in-game, which means that the only way to input text in Korean is via a USB keyboard - you can change the layout under Settings->Accessory Settings->Keyboard Type.

You could try inputting the characters in unicode, I know that works for PSN messages and comments but I dunno about LBP.

Presumably that's something you can only do with a USB keyboard?

I have one of the PS3 keypad controller attachments, and I can't figure out how to make it produce any characters which aren't on one of the keys.

Yes, you need a keyboard to do it.

I don't know when computers stopped using those round sockets for the keyboard and mouse. My computer is fairly old now but all the peripherals, like the keyboard, are connected through USB ports. Hopefully it's the same for NF and they can just unplug it and hook it up to their PS3 without the hassle of having to buy a new keyboard (or one of those converter sockets).

They're called PS/2 sockets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS/2_connector), and I think they're still available on even the most recent motherboards. It's only laptops that generally don't have them these days, but since they have a keyboard/mouse built in, they don't really need them.

It's still worth holding on to a PS/2 keyboard. When I bought my most recent desktop PC, I found the USB keyboard option was disabled in the BIOS by default, and the only way to enable it was to use a PS/2 keyboard.
