What gets you motivated?

Archive: 20 posts

Now, we all suffer from Lack-Of-Motivation Syndrome...

Now let's find the cure

What gets you motivated to head into Create Mode and actually do stuff?

For me, it's Doritos... Don't know why, but they get me motivated

At the moment? Nothing for long enough. Plenty of ideas, but whenever I open the pop-it and see the mess and remember how slow and clunky create mode can be I turn to something else.2010-03-13 12:58:00

I get motivated every time I go into create mode with GruntosUK or Morgana. For some reason, being with someone who is creating something awesome makes me remember how much I love the finished product. I'm like Syroc, though. I will be motivated for exactly as long as it takes me to realize why I lost my motivation to begin with.

I've got a thousand ideas, but the moment I got to execute one, something breaks, the game freezes, or I am looking for a sticker that I just cannot find because there is no organization method. I usually last about an hour and then shut it off and go do something else.

This lack of motivation is the exact reason that I've been working on my latest level since last may.

I have periods of zero motivation and others like... now
I'm kind of disgusted with the LBP comunity, but I've got so many ideas that I just can't help getting in create mode again and again.

I hate the sensation when you are in a blank level and put the first block of material... I think "Here we go again... months and months"
But lately I've been creating real fast. Those days when I spent 3 months in a level are gone.
I've created my 3 lasts levels real fast. One of them took me only 2 weeks... this motivates me quite a lot

Realising the potential of my level gets me motivated, but when I haven' made enough yet to realise the potential, I'm not motivated enough to reach the point where I get motivated, if that makes sense.2010-03-13 15:00:00

I haven't yet found anything to get me motivated... hence the reason I've not really done much in create mode. Maybe I'll try out the Doritos thing 2010-03-13 15:05:00

Oh yeah, I know this feeling

But now that my PS3 is not working, I really miss LBP and create mode,
and I wish I could continue the level I started before the problems started...

Being in create mode with Stephanie_Ravens pretty muvh allows me to think up anything.

I just think of someone in the LBP/LBPC community going 'wow awsome level! hearted' and that motivates me! not that its happened recently 2010-03-13 16:41:00

If I start a level and feel that it has a lot of potential then I will stay motivatated until its finished. Starting a levels the problem though as creating something out of nothing can seem very dounting.2010-03-13 17:53:00

That's very true steve...

The hardest part in creating a level is getting started!

i think what motivatets me is all of everyone's good levels, and try to make something almost as good. Its been working, i have a pretty good level done but its just going through fixing bugs, solid logic is what slows me down.2010-03-14 00:21:00

@bikerider12: Just pick "Logic Pack"'s logic! You've got all you may need there.

I agree with SBG.
I start several levels with different themes, sometimes I mess around for weeks in create mode.
But when I find a theme that I think is good enough, then I can't stop till it's finnished.

The environment.
I'll look at a building and go "Now, how could I make that in LBP"
Or look into my backyard and say "Wow, look how those trees line up perfectly, that would be a great platform"

Every good creator needs to draw inspiration from their environment.

Seeing your plans come to life, seeing the things you imagined work, the triumph of defeating an awesome boss you just made 5 minutes ago...
But to get started, it's the hardest. I usually play my friends' levels to see what they have done recently.
