http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo300/simonsnr/Pirates%20of%20the%20carob%20bean%20TOURS/APhoto_2.jpgHi all, this is based (loosely) on my PSP game 'Pirates of the Carob Bean'
OK, so if you haven't played my PSP game 'Pirates of the Carob Bean' some of the humor wont be quite as effective, but it's still funny and I think 'followable' (Is that a real word?)

You have signed up to a 'Pirate experience day trip' with 'Pirate of the Carob bean tours', where you will re-live the famous story of 'Pirates of the carob bean' (kind of) Things go a little wrong when you have to destroy an ancient film set, and a sea monster that isn't included in the pirate package appears, and tries to blow you and your ship apart. (This worries the tour operator and the captain greatly)

The start: A brief witty re-telling of the story of 'Pirates of the Carob bean' by your tour guide.

Tour this way!
http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo300/simonsnr/Pirates%20of%20the%20carob%20bean%20TOURS/APhoto_1.jpg

Your fully working ship (well it goes backwards and forwards anyhooo. There are plenty of puzzles to solve before being able to set sail including riding the ship of the unwanted rats, raising the flag, and fixing the engines. Later you will get to use the canons on the 'unscheduled' monster.
http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo300/simonsnr/Pirates%20of%20the%20carob%20bean%20TOURS/APhoto_3.jpg

The sunken ship. (there are TWO two person puzzles here, one gives you the sunken ship as a prize.) The main puzzle can be completed with a single player.
http://i385.photobucket.com/albums/oo300/simonsnr/Pirates%20of%20the%20carob%20bean%20TOURS/APhoto.jpg

There is ALOT more to this game, but I didn't want to spoil it with adding too many pics. It's a long game (about 25 mins) so make sure you bring a packed lunch!

(two games so far reviewed by me in the ps3 section are: Sewer sack by mutant red peas, and Sub terror by Darth

EDIT: All buggs mentioned bellow have been fixed except lag issues.

Hey, great level but it's hampered by awkward gameplay and you've overlooked some major things. Could I add you and playthrough it with you to show you bugs etc? There's quite a few D:2010-03-12 16:34:00

I'm suprised this isn't getting more attention. It's a really great level with some neat ideas. Admittedley there are some unpolished elements(maybe shadeseeker had some trouble adjusting from psp to ps3.

Also, shadeseeker, in the ps3 version you don't need to activate pistons or bolts by sensor switch to save thermo(unless for example you want an elevator to go up when you stand on it)

Hey Paddy, thanks for your help (lol, though I had to scrap the idea of your crane mechanism)

I fixed the bosons chair on the mast, it now stops at the top till you jump off. BOTH trap doors open with the button, i fixed the issue with people getting left behind at the beginning, and I've modified the stairs at the back of the ship to make it easier. The monster now lights up better when you get a hit, the platform at the front of the ship isn't in the way of the cannon when fired, and added a few new stickers and objects.

Any comments/criticisms VERY welcome!

Thanks for the feedback on Puzzle World, I'm here because of F4F

Anyway, I started playing the level, and my first impression was "It's a bit dark", but that's not too bad. The test was very tedious and bothersome to get through, and I don't have a PSP so I didn't really get it. Anyway, I carried on with the level, and the door to the paintinator opened, and I got killed, oh well, I thought. Turned out I'd broke the level, so I had to restart.

When I restarted, it turned out I'd broke the level the first time before I'd even gone down the 'Pirate Tours' hole, because it stayed dark. I was now on the Pirate Ship, in the light. It was confusing at first, but then I got it. The pulling the switch thing didn't really work, and as I went to type this it suddenly did :/

I got to driving the ship, and all was well. UNderwater I noticed your checkpoints weren't infinite, I think that should be changed.

Unfortunatly that's all I could play, so I'll say this:

+Intresting
+Fun puzzles...
-...Though they can take a while to work out
-Quite a few bugs
-Lag

It's a good level, but it could be made better. Sorry this sounded negative, it is a good level, I was just telling you the bad bits so you could improve

Alright, I've played your level...

-First of all, sometimes when you drop down to the ship, you get killed by a rat
-Lots of lag on the ship
-It's not very clear how you're supposed to get the "heavy things" off their platform
-Using the spring below deck, you can flip the hatch upward and skip part of the level where you fix the engine
-What's that lever on the bottom deck near the back for?
-The underwater part was very confusing. It wasn't particularly clear what to do with the barrels of gunpowder. Not to mention two of them broke on me, and the other was stuck on the other side of the ocean where the water kills you
-The checkpoints have too few lives
-That's as far as Ive gotten
Don't get me wrong, the level looks wonderful, and the pirate ship is very well-made. But make things easier and clearer.

4 stars.

Hiya,
Clarie and I enjoyed this. The puzzles were nice and you squeezed a lot of gameplay out of a few key areas.

A few suggestions;
The 3 bombs were bugged. We put 2 in place.. went to fetch the third and the film set collapsed.
We kept falling down various holes without intending to. The one in the captains cabin and the one outside. the flap on it broke the first time we went through I believe.

The humour was witty without being too 'in your face', the t-shirts were cool, and the sea monster was fun.

I suggest you reconfigure your mouth logic so old messages don't keep coming up. There was a few times I missed a new message then couldnt see it again because others were in the way. check out my discworld tutorial vid for some good mouth logic that would sort this (or make your own).

A few posts here talk about cannons... I used the paint gun on the sea monster - did I miss something?

Hi all, and thanks for your constructive Criticisms, thats why I come on here, and I think I've addressed all of them, here goes:

Rat on the ships on deck is no longer electrified, so it doesn't kill you when you first land on the ship.

Area effect of weather trigger larger on the ship.

More informative speech about the 'heavy thing'

The mechanic bellow deck now has two new speech bubbles that disappear so that they don't conflict with the speech that is trigged by killing the two rats bellow. He also now mentions what the switch is for to his left. ( Its the Captains lift)

When the captains lift 'WAS' triggered, it use to go up and down, and was annoying every time you went through the cabin, as you kept falling down it. I made a hatch so its now one way, you can come up through it, but not go down it.

There is a save point at the top of the mast.

Main save point on deck is now an infinite one.

Score bubble emitter in the two player puzzle have now been changed to produce just 20 in total (They were set to infinite before DO!!)

Switch to unlock barrier that is blocking the paint ball gun at the front of the ship is now more obvious, and in a more 'befitting' place.

(THIS was a big issue) The monster inside the sunken ship would destroy the gunpowder barrels if it hit them, an in so, ruined the 'point', so the monster is now gone, meaning its a lot easier, and with a new speech bubble explaining what the gunpowder barrels are for it makes it a little clearer. Oh, and the barrels are now tethered, so they cant drift into the deadly smoke underwater. There is a speech bubble warning you to get out of the way when the barrel timer starts counting down.

LAG: No idea how to fix this issue???

If you find any more, do please let me know.

Kirbyman: I'm really sorry you didn't finish the game, I hope you try again with the new updates

Darth: You mentioned using the spring bellow deck, saying it allowed you to skip parts of the game. It doesn't, you cant progress with out killing both the rats bellow, which in turn can't be completed without first getting the engine started. All the spring board is there for, is to allow you to get back up on deck before you have opened the Captains lift. Again, sorry you couldn't complete it, I hope you find time to give it a second try?

Adipose: LOL, how did you manage to kill the monster with out using the cannon first? Must have taken you for ever?? Glad you liked (parts of) it I will review your game, but have sent you a private message about it)

Thanks again for all your feed back

Looking for online friends to play/create with, so feel free to add me if you wish

hey shade seeker. Thanks again for you feedback on The Odyssey. I just finished your level!

I thought it was quirky and fun! The story and parrot were humorous, and made me laugh, especially when i jumped on the book

I thought the visuals were very well done, especially on the pirate ship. i love how the hull opened up when you went inside it. the ship in general was very fun to get around. It was well planned out and a joy to explore. same with the sunken ship. very cool atmosphere you created down there!

the boss was really cool, but i thought that he had a little too much life in the first stage and a little to little in the second.

I liked the ending too, with the lights falling down to spell thank you for playing. a unique way to thank the player

overall i thought your level was really great. I thought it might have been a little text heavy. I read all the text but i am sure there are many that will not do the same. I had alot of fun with it, thanks! 5 stars

Hey! I saw this level a couple days ago on Cool Levels. I'm playing it right now. I got through the first part of the ship okay. I'm now underwater with the pillars and it lags quite a bit. I like the design of the underwater ship. While dragging the white light barrel over, I died from the squid and I respawned at the checkpoint at the broken ship. Maybe add a sensor switch with a radius that covers all three pillars that's attached to the checkpoint on the lower left so that way if you do die, you'll be respawned at the checkpoint nearby. When the parrot comes out, "insurance" is spelled incorrectly. I like how the boss just floats away when you kill it lol. I like the humor in the level as well. I also like the letters at the end. Overall, it was a great level. You certainly have a nack for gameplay. Great work! 4 stars & heart.2010-03-20 00:18:00

I just played your level. Very enjoyable!
The running, climbing, swinging and rat-exterminating on the ship was indeed good old pirate fun. The sunken shipwrecks are great to look at. The sea monster is well designed. (I also killed it with only the paintenator.)

What I liked best about the level was the quirky humour. Also the fact that it's a pirate tour, with the little shop at the end etc. Very cool stuff.

I found one little glitch: I managed to get stuck under the control panel of the ship, and had to pop to get out of there.

If you have the time for F4F it would be great if you could take a look at one of my levels.
