Well, here it is: My second level
Its a running-jumping based cave level, with average length and nice visuals. I had alot of problems with the editor on this one; mostly from lag when creating. The walls in this level were huge, and I had to end them and begin new ones very often, leaving very ugly cracks. You'll know them when you see them. It may look like a bit of corner-editing would make it fit better, but believe me, I spent at least 3-4 hours on that alone, and it would always go straight back to how it is now. Well, that or the whole level would jiggle for a few seconds and then literally fall into pieces. Even though I liked how this turned out and it was fun to make, I cant wait to do something with less frustration.

I hope you enjoy!

I know you wanted me to do F4F on the other level but I'm going to do this one instead = )

First I want to say that this is much improved over your first level. I enjoyed playing it. The design is much more complex and it flows much better. Also your point bubble placement adds to the replay value. I plan to go back and try to look for better combos. I like the fact that you have to work a little to continue in a few spots. But I have a feeling some might find the smaller platforms frustrating. You did a good job of decorating but some areas seem cluttered with stickers. The ending looks great.

I have a couple suggestions. The first is something I wanted to mention about your previous level as well. You have a number of jumps that players must do from a downward slope. This makes jumping much harder to pull off. If this is intentional than I have no problem with it since you just have to walk instead of run. However, I can see people missing jumps they think they should have made. The second is your smaller platforms blend into the the object behind them and gets very hard on the eyes. This could be fixed with a simple shade sticker on all of them or even a green moss. They just need something to help people see them more clearly.

Overall I really enjoyed your level and gave it 4 stars and a heart.

Thanks. I sorta tryed to make them blend in, but I forgot about whether the player would see them, thanks for the tip. Also, I tryed to make it pretty hard, so I don't really see that as a bad thing.2010-03-11 13:15:00

Another quality level Masterlemons.

The platforming was nice and challenging, and the atmosphere was very good.

I think you are settling into your own unique style.

A fantastic level I loved every second of it. The way it flowed and just the pacing were fantastic. Now there is one minor problem I found was that the second platform where you have to use the swing is a little tough. Overall I gave it 5 stars and a heart.2010-03-12 20:21:00

I was one of the first few people who played this level.

I enjoyed your stickerwork a lot.

Not much too say, but I gave you 5 stars and I think I hearted you as a creator.

Its funny how people thought it was hard because after at least 30 plays while creating it, I could make all the jumps and swings with my eyes closed. Because of that, I really had no idea what was hard or not.2010-03-14 01:09:00

Hi, masterlemons. You did cool level. Great work with level design, nice sticker placement and all environment look nice with good corner tools work. As mentioned before there ate few places with small difference between platform and wall and players can have problems with finding their way, but it is nor big problem. So I gave you 5 stars and heart for you as creator. And I look for you next levels! Good Luck!2010-03-15 11:45:00

Hidy Ho Masterlemons! I just got to play your latest adventure, so here I am to report on my trip

This level really is an improvement over your previous level, and that is not to say that the previous one was bad, because it was a great time

I like how you had a story implemented into it, and the bits of dialog here and there to help and add to the story were a lot of fun!

I absolutely LOVED the way that the ruins looked. You did an awesome job with the sticker work, as well as adding the platforms to them and the material choice was really good.

The gameplay in the level was really solid. It was challenging, but I was never irritated, and your checkpoint placement was PERFECT. Every time that I died, there was a save point just moments earlier! Big Kudos for that

My only real complaint is that I think that you could have done a bit of a better job with the scenery. While some parts looked great and had really good layering (like the ruins), it seemed that a good chunk of the level was pretty empty and didn't have much fun layering to it. The level was certainly a lot of fun, but I think that if you put an extra hour or so into decoration it would do wonders for the scenery

Awesome work masterlemons! I will look forward to your next level!!!

I really liked the way the ruins looked too, and I agree that some of the earlier bits needed more layers besides simply stickers. Thanks!

EDIT: Where has the Spotlight Team gone too? =P

Hey masterlemons!

I played this last week and took down notes but haven't had a chance to type up my review for you yet. I'm trying to get 100% caught up in the next day or two.

Sorry for the wait!

I ended up playing it again to remind myself about the various things I had taken notes on, and also just because it's a fun level.

This is a great overall effort and is very well suited for the PSP - it's a quick romp through some fun challenges with a satisfying ending. The visuals are on the simple side but very cleanly done, and everything has a nice polished cartoony look. It's not overly extravagant but it doesn't need to be - less is more as they say. I can really see the improvements in your create mode skill since The Grassy Peaks. Not that Grassy Peaks was a bad level at all, but this one is just that much better. My favorite parts visually have to be the ruins towards the end of the level. There's some detailed sticker work in those areas and corner editing to match. The scenery at the very end of the level is great, and I like your use of cartoon-style "sparkles" in front of the scoreboard. I think some people may not get that's what you were going for from a graphics point of view, but the first thing that popped into my head were scenes from Robotech... if that makes any sense at all. If I have now confused you suffice to say that I liked the effect.

From an improvement perspective there's a few things you can do. The level starts off with no music and is a little quiet, but you start off very soon after with a great choice of tune, so that's fine. To help fill the "dead air" in the beginning use some environmental white noise like gusts of wind or water to lend your world a little more texture. I really like what you did with the vines, but they look a little strange. I eventually figured out that you made them 2 layers thick instead of just 1, which makes them seem more like curvy platforms than hanging vines. Most of the level seems to be 2 layers deep when it doesn't need to be, so that's something to change for your next level. The basic idea is, if you don't need both layers only use the front one. Some areas, like your ruins, make good use of both layers so don't change anything there - only the empty corridors and other straightforward areas could use some tightening up layer-wise. As I already mentioned your ruins look very good and play pretty well also, but there are a couple of rough spots. Some of the smaller platforms are very hard to see, and my first playthough I kind of stumbled around a bit until I figured it out. The platforming itself is planned out well though. I should point out here that you did a great job using score bubbles to guide the player where you want them to go - definitely keep doing exactly what you're doing in that category. The second swingy thing (I think it's a lamp) in the ruins section is hard to use. It's fairly difficult to swing up onto the small platform to the right, and I felt it interrupted the flow of the level. Speaking of that, from a gameplay pacing perspective you could use a little more action. Some of the transitions from one area to the next were just plain corridors with nothing to do in them, and that tends to slow down the excitement a bit. Try adding little useless platforms here or there for people to hop around on and that will really serve to fill in some of the blank space.

I thought this was a great level, and again my apologies for being so tardy with my review. I gave this 4.5/5 stars, which rounds up to 5 stars in game. You're doing a lot of things right, so I can't wait to see more creations from you.

Thanks for the feedback, a lot of those things I'm working on improving in my next level. I've been busy though, and I've been tinkering more with the editor lately, so my next level could take a bit.2010-03-25 23:35:00
