My theroy on the infamous "Lockbox" and "Do Not Play Here" levels

Okay, i have always wanted to know what these meant and i very good theory popped into my head while walking my dog. I am guessing that level keys are placed in these lockboxs and creators assign codes for a door to open so that you get a key. This is how, I'm guessing, many people have "beta testers" for their levels. If any one else knows what they actually do, please let me know.2010-03-10 22:47:00

I had some comments on my lockbox recently by people amazed that there were 100 completions and that it's impossible etc.

Kinda had to facepalm a little bit there.

I had no idea key levels were infamous. Then again I have one sitting in my published levels right now. It's really just a simpler way to keep levels locked but allow select people to test them without needing to send them the level key manually.2010-03-11 00:00:00

Um, a key room holds keys for locked levels, usually unfinished and being tested. Was it really that much of a secret? -_- Sorry it was kind of obvious.2010-03-11 00:16:00

Okay, the way you all put it, i sound like a idiot. However, it never occurred to me and most people that i know had no clue. When i first started playing my theory was that you had to contact the person to find out the code. I have not been in this community for a very long time so i don't know all the chatter that goes around.2010-03-11 00:26:00

oh come now guys give the lad a break I'm sure not everyone is really focused on lockboxes when they're enjoying a great game like this...kind of like the airport...you always rush to your flight and you ALWAYS do something to mess it up somehow becaused you rushed...from bringing liquids on a plane or just not paying attention and getting on the walking to the wrong gate....so yeah lets be easy on the lad ok ladies and gents? it was something to share and it doesn't hurt us in the least

I think it's perfectly reasonable to not know what a key level/lockbox does if you've never seen one. I genuinely never thought about people wondering what they do, but in retrospect it must be weird seeing levels floating around that don't seem to have a point (some of which have hearts for some reason, and meaningless tags).

Personally, I always try to put some random tags on key levels for the lulz, like "Points Fest" or "Perilous".
