Should I wait for this project?

Archive: 7 posts

Okay, so even before I wound up deleting my levels, I had been thinking of switching to this project. I've got a ton of ideas for it, but I want to know if LBPC thinks I should wait for one much-discussed tool to arrive.

My level is a real horror level. I'm not talking about Shallow Springs unsettling here, I mean Silent Hill and the movie Shutter (Okay, well, the bit I've seen - you think I'm brave enough for a horror flick? :blush were my inspirations here. Things pop out at you, and the level is almost totally dark.

So what I'm wondering is, when I have quite an arsenal of emitted gas layers for darkness, should I wait for real lighting control? Or should I just be satisfied with the black gas approach to darkness?

I've included a poll. (Please don't pick the joke option, I want real opinions. )

Instead of gas try:

1. Make a large piece of thin layer crystal clear glass and sticker it with the black gradient sticker(use grey gradient instead if you're looking for more of a fog effect)

2. Attach it to a long strip of metal/heavy material which has a protected creature brain(set to follow) with about 4+ creature wheels on it(for stability)

3. Glue thin layer glass to the creature thingy

4. It'll follow you and give the impression of "darkness"(the level will be slightly darker cuz of the glass

Dunno how well gas works. If it looks better substitute the glass for the gas on the creature thingy

I don't like the whole glass approach, I've taken a look at it and while it could work, It's not what I'm looking for this time around.2010-03-10 20:55:00

You might get a lot of lag from lots of gas (hmm, in real life too) but the effect should be pretty convincing. Thin layer black gas is ever so slightly see-through, so even when an area isn't "lit" you'll be able to barely make out what's behind it.2010-03-13 03:20:00

well i think i thought you could do if its a silent hill like level is you could make a long glass box then corner edit it so when you gas it you can still see the level and still have a fog effect 2010-03-13 12:16:00

I think I've reached my decision!

Development of Subject #117 (Tenitive Title) begins... as soon as I get everything. Frying Saucers, here I come!
