A Guide to the Corner Edit Tool

Archive: 8 posts

Right i haven't seen one of these so i thought i would post one, i was gonna do a video guide, but it would take too much time if you want me to then just ask.

First things first, your best friend for the duration of this tutorial is the corner edit tool.
Now we have that out the way let's see what we can create with the corner edit tutorial:

Nearly all of that area was created with the corner edit tool, this is part of my new level so you should be honured your seeing it.

Again nearly all created with the corner edit tool.

Right then let's get started with actually making another rocky bit to go in my level.

So first you want to add a material any size dosen't matter.

Then you want to get your corner edit tool out and start to reshape it. To move a existing corner select it with X then move it around, you can delete corners with Triangle. You can add new corners by pressing X where you want the corner to be, then just drag your cursor to move it around, after adding a new corner i had something like this:

Then after rearanging it to make a platform type rock i had something like this, it took me about 1 minute to get the shape i was looking for, but ovbiousley if you want to make a bigger shape or something you want to be perfect you can spend as much time as you want in the corner edit mode.

Now i decided i didnt like this and i wanted to fill the gap above where the current platform rock is. So to do this i simply moved the rock up a bit got out my corner edit tool, and went crazy making loads of new corners and moving them so they where filling in the gaps between the rocks after a while i had this:

I had moved all the corners to fit with the surrounding features just like a JigSaw Puzzle, as you can see there is a gap at the top which all i need to do is grab the corners and move them up and fit them in, as for the open sides i just made it blend with the background, after i was happy with the final result i had something like this:

As you can see there used to be an empty front layer in the top left of that picture, but now i have filled it with a rock, and it also blends very well with it's surroundings.

That is it guys it's that simple. Not many people know how to use the corner edit tool to create scenary but it is that simple.

Here are some vital points to remember when creating with the corner edit tool:

1. More corners equals a higher thermo.
2. Spend your time making it blend perfectly with your surroundings, it dosen't have to blend perfectly, but it does make your level look a whole lot better if your scenary blends with the rest of your level.
3. The most important point of all, you DON'T have to use the corner edit tool if you don't want to!

So if you guys liked this please say C&C welcome , if you want me to make a video tutorial on this just ask and i will. I hope you liked it.

You could also mention that if you want your scenery to blend perfectly you can use a combination of corner editor and grid mode to ensure that neighbouring shapes fit together precisely.2010-03-10 17:53:00

Had a quick read through but I think you forgot to mention that you can quickly flick through the corners on a shape by tapping R1 or L1... Lots of people don't know this.2010-03-15 15:22:00
