The guys over at Harmonix just announced Rock Band 3

"[Harmonix is developing Rock Band 3 for worldwide release this holiday season! The game, which will be published by MTV Games and distributed by Electronic Arts, will innovate and revolutionize the music genre once again, just as Harmonix did with the original Rock Band, Rock Band 2 and The Beatles: Rock Band. Stay tuned for more details!"

just jumped at the top of my to-buy-list

Sweeeeeet! Can't wait for it to possibly come out. It looks intriguing, but I don't know why they would make another one. Rock Band 2 is like the best out there, and I think they should just stick with DLC music and maybe some expansion packs to RB and RB2.2010-03-13 05:18:00

I know George Harrisons son was working on new instruments a while ago they said would revolutionise the genre. I'm looking forward to it, love Rock Band 2. But I'm not looking forward to buying more plastic instruments if we need to. If thats the case I'll stick to RB22010-03-13 10:05:00

I feel the same way. I've blown hundreds of dollars on fake instruments and I really don't feel the need to purchase more. If just the guitars are different, I wouldn't mind, but if everything is different, I'll pass.

My list of songs for RB3:

Plug In Baby - Muse
Wait and Bleed - Slipknot
Low Rider - War
Substitution - Silver Sun Pickups
Let It Die - Foo Fighters
.... Gah, it's hard to think of a lot because RB already has like over 200 songs on their DLC list!

Killing Kittenz- Atheist Fight Anthem
Deadstar Assembly- Just Like You
Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper
Avenged Sevenfold - A little Piece Of Heaven
and
Lamb Of God - Redneck

if i had all these i think i could finally stop checking the store every tuesday to see if they had something cool on it.

The Guitar Hero franchise has gone WAY overboard with cheap gmmicks like free virtual rockstars like Santana and Kurt Cobain in Guitar Hero 5. And they try to make new instruments like a bigger and crappier drumset than the RB one, or the DJ Hero controller. But RB is a more polished experience, with amazing weekly DLC song setlists and top-notch game desgins. I like how they spend a while on making one game and having it sale up the gaming charts instead of making new games ALL THE TIME.

I agree with you because metal is my favorite genre, but I think RB3 needs more variety then just metal and rock
It would probably need some 80's hits, some classic rock, some pop (groan), and maybe some country (puke). As you can see pop and country are my least favorite genres. but they probably are needed in RB3. If not, it would just be a RB Metal and Hard Rock track pack disc.

Thanks Racroz

I totally agree with you. Plug in Baby, Supermassive Black Hole, Uprising, and Resistance are on the top of my Muse songlist for RB3. At least one of those should be on it lol

What's the point?

Edit: In fact, why not sell all the GH/RB stuff, and go buy a guitar, bass, drumkit or something... Instead of just pretending to play badly mapped out versions of the most mainstream songs done by a small selection of artists.

the point is to have fun, i don't know if you're familiar with fun but fun goes hand to hand with videoGAMES pretty much always
and about the whole "playing real instruments"
RB is really helpful when it comes to that, playing RB actually encouraged me to go learn real drums and guess what, it's a piece of cake using all the skills i've learned in RB
i'm the newest student of the music school and i'm the best one! just by playing RB

Playing an instrument is both more fun + more satisfying.... Play a song on RB and congratulations, you can hit a combination of up to 5 buttons at predetermined times when a colour comes on screen, learning a song on an actual instrument is fun, satisfying, and sometimes useful...

Also, RB isn't useful when it comes to playing guitar, because it suggests to a prospective player that it will be simple to play the guitar because it is simple on RB/GH. They realise it isn't and give up.
And RB may teach you the very basics of drumming, like your timing, but if it has taught you how to do, for example (I know nothing much about drums, so who knows, maybe they are easy?) blast beats, or syncopated rhythms etc then i will be quite surprised, because at the end of the day you are still just pressing something when the screen says.

I realise they are for fun, however people would have MORE fun playing properly.

Well, here's the point:

I doubt they will make new peripherials for RB. Guitar went overboard with new peripherals and cheap gimmicks and stuffs like that.

I play real guitar and drums/percussion, and the real things are seriously harder then any video game music stuff. Especially drums. Being mapped out on a music staff is a lot harder to deal with then a scrolling fretboard-type thing with multi-colored 'notes' or whatever.

And the real stuff costs a lot more then plastic controllers. Plain electic guitars range from $100-$800, 5-piece drumsets $500-$1000, and electric bass guitars usually $200-$800.

A lot of people would just prefer learning the easy stuff with video games and stuff. But don't call yourself a 'pro videogame musician' until you try the real thing.

^i agree with you sockwave
and yeah real drums are harder, especially the non-rock styles of music, they're just trickier
and you're right, playing plastic thingys does not make you "pro videogame musician" or a great "musician" in any way, they just help, that's why on my first drums lesson ever, when the teacher asked me if i had ever drums before i said "no" because it was true, i had never played REAL drums before

anyway shockwave, you got RB2? so we may play together sometime

Yep I got Rock Band 2. I usually play on drums though on expert, but I do sometimes play on hard guitar/bass. One of us could switch out or something. It would be awesome to play together on RB. Can I send you a friend request?
