And so, Sackboy was able to board the USS-CMP undetected. Would he be able to complete his formidable task?

***This level is now published. Enjoy!***

Hi everyone! It is my pleasure to present you all with my third level of 2010! This one went by quickly, and it was a blast to make. I've been learning a ton about visual-improving techniques, and I wanted to put some of them on display in Interstellar Infiltration. This level isn't really going to challenge you a whole lot - it's pretty straightforward - but it does have some combo opportunities and hidden bubble caches if that's your thing. More importantly, though, I wanted to make something that was aesthetically pleasing and fun to play. So, I hope you guys have as much playing as I did making this one!

I want to say thanks to everyone who has helped me test over the past few weeks. Without you guys, the level would have never been what it is today. And a special thanks to mrsupercomputer who just won't go away is a tremendous help when trying to cap off a level. Also, thanks to Candyk, whom I have never met, but created StarCruiser many months ago. That level has always been a visual treat and was a source of inspiration for this level. In many ways, this is my StarCruiser... or as we've been calling it: ComphCruiser.

Also, a final thanks to Jwwphotos, for providing these lovely high definition shots!

Cheers.

Edit: Morgana sneaked in there... Wait until you see the new Captain. You are going to love it!

Stunning level, Compher. It's so well put together and decorated...almost like it's real. Funny too. That bit of dialog in there had me in stitches...very, very clever. It was also multi-player friendly. 2010-03-09 23:09:00

It was great during the beta, and it's even better now! Awesome placement of all those extra score bubbles and lights, although I'm beginning to doubt the existence of this this fabled 'extreme secret' which you've taunting me with. I can't find it!2010-03-09 23:09:00

Well comphy, you know how I feel about this level. Need I say it again? I suppose, since this is your official showcase thread, I actually do...

Folks - you need to go play this. It is hands-down the very best looking level you can find on LBP that also actually has gameplay, puzzles, humor, and a pretty good story. It won't challenge your skills much, but you'll have a boat load of fun and when you're finished picking your jaw up off the floor, you'll come back and thank me. But no... thank comphermc for giving us this treasure.

I'm off to play it again!

Quite a bit has changed actually, although you may not notice it... lol. The biggest modification was the inclusion of about 5 times as many bubbles as before. There weren't very many, lol. I hope there are plenty now.

I've been around a lot while Compher was building this and I've had the opportunity to play test for sometime now, but today was my first day actually playing through by myself. And because of that, I was really able to take my time and admire the level. I remember in the early stages of the level I was worried that Comph was imitating Starcruiser too much and I let him know it. However, Comph urged me to be patient and reassured me that the level would come into it's own and I can happily say that it did. While I still don't think you surpassed Starcruiser (you know my feelings about that level!), I think you succeeded in creating a level that is beautiful, funny, and just a lot of fun to play.

Well done and I look forward to the sequel next month!

my only very, very minor gripe is that it is sometimes difficult to tell where exactly to go, how to jump/plane shift. maybe that's just me being bad at the game though.

Lol @ the pic of the new robot captain.

It amazes me how you can go from the gameplay melting pot of All Mine to this visual masterpiece... But I don't think anyone can pack visuals and gameplay in their levels as well as you do.

Thanks, guys! I checked out Morgana's prospective secret. Wow, awesome. I need to work some magic and get it in there... I gotta lose something, though...

Also, Jww was kind enough to capture some HD photos with me, and I will be working on adding those to the OP. Thanks again, J-Dubs! (That's what I call you, I guess).

Edit: Haha, I want to add a little something about this picture, which you may recognize from the level:

So polished it practically gleams! First mention has gotta go to the visuals - the attention to detail, design and stickering are amazing. It all looks so solid and crafted, I even spent a few minutes just opening and shutting the door into Engineering, i swear you've got 2 thin layers overlapping there! No idea how you did that. Its a beautiful level from start to finish, you've done a fantastic job, it really feels like your gadding around in a miniature spaceship. Gameplay wise, again, it's extremely smooth, and incorporated into the the environment seamlessly.

Special mention to the robot conversation, which still manages to be hilarious even after playing it four times.

And jump pads ftw! : )

Thanks, guys. I was honored to have a 5-star going for a while. Oh well, since it dropped, I'll start publishing - but I'll be sure to actually make tweaks as I do.

Cheers.

[...] I swear you've got 2 thin layers overlapping there! No idea how you did that. [...]

Well, I do have two thin(ner) layers overlapping there. I use checkpoint thick material for the horizontal movement of the door. This is made possible by using the much-less-popular golfball thick material (or as I'm going to refer to it... point bubbles thick material, since we don't generally use golfballs), which composes the entire wall in front of the doors. You can't make them overlap using the grid, but you totally can with connectors and non-grid movement. Thanks to Sehven for hitting me up with this material. I'm going to see if putting a block of it a prize bubble is editable (for some reason, the block of plasma material that Ungreth sent me is editable).

Thanks for the kind words!

[Edit: On the other hand, it's level's like yours that make me feel like dropping my moon in a bomb survival level and never seeing it again. How can a new creator do anything but despair when looking at those screen shots!?! I haven't seen anyone mention how excellent the area designation stickers look. The font is beautiful. That in of itself must have taken a fair amount of time, and has a huge visual impact.]

If you recall, I mentioned that the level was already named that when you suggested it, haha. I don't think I came up with it myself, though. I'm pretty sure mrsupercomputer suggested the very same name, and so I used it. Since you suggested it as well, I thought it worked. As you said, "Great Insane minds think alike."

---

As for prize bubbles... I'm getting to it... eesh. No one ever keeps them anyways, right? I'm thinking of putting the font I made scattered about the level. People are into fonts, right? *glances at post above yours* Yeah, I think I'll do that. After lunch!

oh, god, I can't remember. Um... let me do a forum search.

---

In the meantime, I have added tons of prizes to the level. I think it slightly changes the highest score possible, but in the direction to where new players are at an advantage. Let's see, in the level itself, I have put:

The Custom Switch Console (the vertical pull switches) with the little Panel Display
A Little Security Droid
Interstellar Font, Numbers 1-9
Interstellar Font, A-Z
The Grabby Box
Large Sentry Droid
A simplified version of the Getaway Craft
A Large Rectangle of Starry Sky

In addition to that, you get:

The High-Tech Doors, for completing the level.
The Grabber Arm Elevator, for acing the level.
The Reactor Core, for collecting all prizes.

Anything else you guys were looking to snatch from the level?

Stunning.... I'm amazed at how beautiful this level is. Beautiful lighting, great use of material, humor and personality - and well-designed gameplay. Incredible. The only TINY input I have is the stairs near the end - was a bit difficult on the camera angle to tell what plane I was on. But, that's a very very small complaint. Awesome job! I can tell I'm still missing some points... there are much higher scores than mine in there.2010-03-10 23:17:00

I played this level last night and was really impressed. The amount of detail that was put into this from the initial cut scene, to the sentries, to the font, to the lighting and sound effects were implemented as well as any level I've ever scene. I think the puzzles were well thought out and the entire level was fun to play from start to where my PS3 froze (after the landing of the escape ship.) Doesn't sound like anyone else had that issue so I guess it must have been a random glitch and not a thermo overload by the level.

The opening dialogue between the sentry bots was pretty good. I'm glad my 10 year old daughter had no idea what she was reading.

5/5+H!!

Gorgeous level. I saw this back when it was in development and I was instantly in love with it. Have to say that gameplay-wise it's a bit on the easy side, but that's not necessarily a bad thing: it was fun. I was constantly stopping and looking around, taking off stickers to see how you had done it, and generally admiring the scenery. I got stuck at the end for like 10 minutes, cuz I'm stupid. I kept trying to figure out a way to jump from the escape ship up onto the ledge on the right side... not noticing the grabbable material above it. A couple friends joined me and we tried EVERYTHING to get up there, including using the roof of the ship, propped on her head, as a ramp. Yeah, I felt really dumb when I finally spotted the grabbable ceiling and two seconds later got to the scoreboard.2010-03-11 23:54:00

Lol. Well, I used Aya's new emitter glitch to guide the player to the left with some more bubbles, so hopefully no more problems there. Eesh... to think of someone getting stuck there!

This is a masterpiece. I can count on one hand how many levels have the polish this one does. The gameplay was fluid and fun. The only two problems i had were i didnt like the use of a sackboy as captain, but you fixed that, and it took a while to find where to go after crashing. I was swimming around in the water for a minute before jumping to the ledge to the left, but this is my own fault.
I also commend you for taking the feedback in your beta thread and actually fixing all the tiny things that are really picky. Most of that suff i would have just been like "Meeh" and turned a blind eye to.

I can't play LBP, so I haven't played it yet, but this looks really great!

How do you find the time to make all those (great and successfull) levels...? 3 or 4 levels in few months? I'm jealous

Don't sleep or do homework!

Edit: Lol. My LittleBigSpellchecker wasn't working properly, and I spelled "Hangar" as "Hanger" when you land in the getaway craft. Is fixed now. Thanks to Kernel for spotting it.

I was able to complete the level this morning and it was still very rewarding to play. I am REALLY bent out of shape that I did not stumble across a single secret area .

I noticed this the first time I played, and forgot to mention it in my previous post. The first two doors I opened, popped up a dialogue box that said "--". I am assuming you had something slightly more informative that the speech bubble police inappropriately censored.

Nope, those are empty dialogue boxes. I just use them for cutscenes. As for the secrets.... good luck!

I haven't said my bit yet:
This is one of the prettiest levels ever. I always thought of comphermc as the guy who's a logic whizz, a great platform builder, and great visuals. I never knew you were ZOMFGWTFBBQ great at visuals until now. Awesome level, which overall, is an improvement in every way to the candyk. (I'm a poet and I didn't even know I was! )
This level is the closest to perfect I've come across, and with 'All Mine', 'Cap'n Sackbeard' and now this, you are leading the pack by quite a distance for the creator of the year spot!

This level made me sick!

I was GREEN with envy! Yuck!

I was so impressed I was depressed! I really had a very low moment while (with my mouth agape) I looked upon this levels extreme detail and beauty. You spend long hard hours trying to do something unique (right...2 million levels plus, and I'm going to come up with something special) only to play this master piece and feel you'll never again be able to equal this master work. ugh!

But seriously...I couldn't get over some of the things you did in there...the look, feel, dialog, and gameplay all very top drawer!

After I went to counseling and my therapist told me not to give up on my LBP therapy plan...I put away my list of people I was gonna kill and got back on my (LBP Horse) and crawled back to my moon to sulk...

WOW this is so very impressive...great job!

Math teacher huh? I think your heading into the wrong Field of Study my friend!

5 Stars Hearted Brilliant and Hearted you as a creator!

(for once my sign off matches my feelings!) JK

@ AJ - I know exactly how you feel about this one. It's inspiring and crushing at the same time. I'm just glad I get to play levels comphermc makes - can you imagine how much worse the planet would be without his work?!?

I finally dragged myself out of create to have another couple of plays of the finish one, and have finally dragged myself out of create to leave some comments I'm sure you understand why I've been head down creating for the last few days Comph

Awesome really is all I can say. Everything from the design, to the stickering, characters, dialogue etc etc etc is sublime. It actually looks better than Starcruiser in my opinion, and of, course plays infinitely better. I loved all the little cutscenes, very funny. I spent ages pulling stickers off in certain sections to see what they were and how you did it, but actually don't think I'd have the patience to attempt it myself. And, well you saw my reaction first hand at the crash at the end.

Excellent work, loved it. And I have to agree with Caryn, awe inspiring and crushing at the same time.

:star:, and don't even think I gave it a heart. I hate you, and your obviously more magical than mine sticker tool.

compared to your other levels and to be completely honest, all mine was AMAZING as was the brain chain stuff; but this was a little... I can't really put into a short text but umm, it was a little short, ideas and concepts were unused and it was a little difficult in places to understand what you wanted me to do.2010-03-13 11:31:00

I respect that people's tastes will differ, but what do you mean by "unused". Were they unoriginal? Sorry you tended to get lost. If you look around, there are little arrow decals pointing the way to go. I refuse to put mouths telling the player where to go, so the decals will have to suffice.

no, not at all; I just meant the sentries had an amazing design and I was looking forward to hiding from them more than once, but the instead of the sentries like in the game with the comical scene, I was met with this big, uglyish grey one which fired plasma balls instead of what I was expecting ( like the sentinels in halo) which were these big orange lazery things.

aya: CreatorB, original creator of the hundreds of semi-transparent stickers that have been all the rage lately, hearted one. There were two fonts in it. I think it was called outcut stickers.

@comph: I noticed the prize names were "Interstellar Font, A-Z", and "Interstellar Font 0-9" (missed a comma, shame on you.)

I am quite picky with titles you know.

Another great level. I found it a little short, and was a tad disappointed with the abrupt ending (Was looking forward to a boss). However, was a real treat for the eye, and those robots where also awesome. I'm dead jealous that you thought up the idea for the switches before me! Nice work.2010-03-14 01:30:00

yeah, this was my problem too. Most places it's clear but like where you grab and swing yourself across the ceiling? i don't believe there's any kind of arrow aiding that. i found that by total accident.

That was an awesome level. The level design is creative and feels like you're in a spaceship. I also loved the end of the level where you entered the strange alien forest because of the colorful lighting. The puzzles and platforming works too. The best looking level I've ever laid my eyes on. Fantastic job! How'd you get it to look so good? Really? I'm not quite sure what to say, but this was terrific. Fun platforming with smart level design and some hilarious dialogue. Seriously, I've never seen this level of detail. Why haven't Media Molecule hired you yet? I gave it five stars and hearted it, and am disappointed that this level only has 4 stars as well. Seriously, this AND Zephyr Valley 2 have 4 stars? MM has to address this now.2010-04-05 00:42:00

Haha! 100th post! What a level though - the aesthetics were simply astonishing - by far the best I've seen in any level on LBP. I seriously don't understand why it's only 4 star! This could be the *takes deep breath* best EVER level on Little Big Planet...EVER! I am just overcome by the attention to detail on this level. It'd never even occurred to me that rubber could be used as a decorative material! I found myself quite often picking away at the stickers to see how you did it - this level is, quite simply, breathtaking.2010-04-06 22:16:00

How do you make such amazing levels? How do you start off? Every time I try to make a level, I always end up thinking it's not good enough. I've tried on two occasions but they always seem too...blank...

Ah-Thank you. The logic behind this one is actually quite meager. The most complicated bit of the whole level is the scene where the box falls down And even then, it was mostly just timing everything out correctly, and applying set-reset switches effectively. Thanks!

Starting a level is definitely hard. It's all about finding the right theme and running with it. I will be honest that the visuals for this level were initially inspired by candyk's StarCruiser. After a while, though, I fell into my own groove and it started to feel unique. If you ever think that a level is not good enough, just step back and ask yourself why that is. Don't be afraid to delete entire portions of the level if they can be made better/differently. Lastly, take your time. It took me months before I even had a firm grasp on the basics. Some people don't have the patience for that, but if you do, just stick with it.

hi there, this is an amazing level well done, was wondering what the blue material you use in your level is and where you get it from?? (i took stickers off to see if i could work it out but can't lol)

also hoping for some advice seeing as by the look of it your the sticker master. i am currently making a level and some of the stickers arent showing on the material i have stuck them on, they blink in and out of sight, sometimes i can see them and some times i cant.

also im trying to find secret areas but cant lol, i get to the bit after the block collapses and then there are the stairs going down to the right, but i jumped in the blocks to the left instead and the camera changes and there is a grab sign on one of the hook things on the ceiling and i've tried for like 15 minutes straight and cant work out a way to get to it arghhhhhh

and again great job. would be great to see some sort of sequel some time :star::star::star::star::star:<3

It's blue wood, which is a story mode material. Not sure where to find it, but it's in there.

Sticker glitch, eh? Try making your stickers smaller by breaking big pieces of material into smaller pieces.

Corner jumping is key. When you jump on the corner/edge, you sometimes get launched a bit higher than you would normally.

Thanks!

I'm up late grinding on my latest level and I needed a new font, so I found a nice set by Comphermc. So thanks for that.
Since I was working on a science fictiony level and one of his had a great spacey title, I went ahead and played it.

Great use of the layers, Impossibly crisp clean design, and I can't even imagine what the thermometer on this thing looks like. It seems to be about to end, after an impossibly long romp through an alien spaceship... then keeps going!

Comphermc deserves every play and heart he gets. Only problem is... I don't feel nearly so good about how mine's coming now...
