Mother-Misty has Left

Archive: 27 posts

i'm not sure if anyone else knows about this, i only just heard it from the witches mouth so. Mother-Misty has decided to leave LBPC and LBP, i was talking to her yesterday saying that it had taken over her life and that she had decided to leave. I just thought i would post this as there has been no other thread that i am aware about it.

So if LBPC does already know about this i will delete this thread, wasn't sure if you did or not so.

I know i'm just saying its a shame cause all the people who have left are really nice, but what i was thinking about now, is that good creators leave new ones come in like Adi and Luos.2010-03-09 11:09:00

Most of the busier creators suffer from burnout at some point. Hopefully at some point she'll be able to come back and play it just for fun.2010-03-09 11:46:00

I'm definately an advocate of not letting games rule your life. If something is taking all of your time and you can't be balanced about it, it's good to get away from it or at least take a break for a while.

I personally have no projects in the works right now..... just enjoying playing other people's levels. LittleBigPlanet definately has a heavy potential to be addicting - the ability to turn your imagination into a game is an incredible feeling.

I think MrsSpookyBuz is also detoxing.... she's been playing Ratchet & Clank and other non-LBP games lately. It's a good thing.

Sorry to hear that, but it happens it seems. I think anyone that has been at it as long needs a break, especially if it has consumed their life. Hopefully she will return with someday with some great new levels. If not, wow... what a collection of amazing work she has produced doncha think?

If you can read this, thanks so much Mother-Misty!! If nothing else, hope you can stop by and say hello!

It's funny because it's true

Well it's a shame we won't get any more levels from her, at least in the short term. I always loved those levels. Thanks for the great levels and best wishes in real life - hope you come back when your ready.

She's not returned my LBP-related messages either, which is strange, so I think she is taking a break. Did see her on last night tho.

I've been burning the candle at both ends myself... and it's hampering my creativity, so I'm not going to rush my current project.

I am also in a sort of detox right now. I'm really enjoying my break from the game and since there's nothing new coming for LBP (that is announced I mean), I am in no hurry to come back. I will however finish at least the level that I have in the making.

But is it just or there's a bunch of hardcore player from the first wave (people that were in the beta or got the game in the first 2-3 months) that are leaving or taking a break lately? I mean, this is no coincidence, this means something to me and this should actually mean something to MM. Also to note the slow but persistant decreasing of people playing online, especially this year.

I think there's quite a few factors... it all comes down to whether someone is having "fun" anymore. If it isn't fun, they won't do it. In the case of MrsSpookyBuz, something happened on this site made her lose her sense of fun.

So, here are some of the things we're seeing quite a bit of lately:

1. When you publish a level, you get quite a bit of abuse and low-ratings on works that may have taken a long time to build. This could be solvable with genre and difficulty, which MM probably won't consider.
2. Bad behavior online - during the last several releases, I had horrible pictues being uploaded onto my levels and people sending messages to my PSN with tons of bad language.... I'm a father and my 8-year-old uses my PS3 also, so this is a big concern for me.
3. On this site, bad sportsmanship and lack of consideration. I think the members that are acting this way are in the minority, but it has certainly made it more difficult to have fun. I actually feel like I cracked a bit on the site contest because it started really bothering me that the contest was being dragged through the mud for no good reason (the mods and judges made it perfectly clear how the contest was being administered). Also, many of those same prima donnas telling others that their levels should not have been spotlighted, and picking on the spotlight crew decisions. Even though ALL OF THEM are working really hard as volenteers to produce it.
4. In general, just a lack of humility on the part of creators (online, that is). Everyone wants to have 5 star levels, 100,000 plays, and 6 levels on cool pages at a time. Everyone is out for themselves with very little consideration to the ones around them, which has about destroyed cool levels and the fun of browsing through them.

Personally, I think - at least for me - all of these things make me less motivated. But, on the other hand, I still enjoy playing LBP and love working my way through the spotlight list.... so I can't say any of these things have chased me away, but they have certainly numbed me as regards creating.

Definitely good points, Cub, especially regarding the parts about behavior on this site. I've never seen so much negativity before recent, and to be honest, it's starting to push me away from spending my time on here. People are quick to shoot down the work of others and there is a lot of complaining about ratings and contests and spotlights - it's become competitive almost and people are starting to get mean about it.

Back in the good old days, when the only thing offered as a prize was XP people were a lot nicer. Now everyone is fighting nail and tooth over crowns and publicity and PSPs and crap that shouldn't matter.

I agree with Ccubbage. It gets frustrating after a while. Nothing changes and it's hard to keep yourself motivated when nothing changes. You spend several months making a level and it gets 2 plays. And if it gets a million plays, it gets griefed and then modded. If that doesn't motivate you, I don't know what does! 2010-03-09 17:55:00

I deninetly agree with this, I got negative rep the other day just because i posted what i personally thought about some gusy signatures, and it shot me down so much. This site has helped me through some hard times and i feel like i am apart of its community. It's a shame it's turned into a war over rep and feedback and who has the better level.

The game is unfortunately set up to pander to the people who have a 'ME ME ME!!' attitude. Star ratings, cool pages and highest rated (and in particular the ability to abuse them) has brought out the worst in some people. Especially galling when you consider the true spirit of the game.

It's sad that this attitude has crept onto this site. It's driven plenty of great creators and decent people away.

You guys really need to stop winging about people leaving. Let the snowball effect happen, and just have fun playing the game.

So what if a creator left... There are plenty others just waiting to be discovered.

By snowball effect he means as it rolls it'll gain new snow and lose old stuff via centrifugal force

And.

People will inevitably stop playing a game, so people making a fuss over the fact they are "leaving" is just lame.

"I'm leaving LBP, please miss me!" =/

And by snowball effect, I mean like...

People 'leaving', so others leave too. Following the crowd.

In defense.... I totally disagree with whining for the sake of whining. I try to find solutions. There's nothing wrong with a creator leaving, and I have NO issue with Mother-misty leaving....especially if LBP is consuming her life.

But, I do see several issues which are fixable that can help people to have more fun. For instance, in this site the negativity in the contests, showcase, and spotlights causes people to have less fun. I would hate for THAT to be the reason people leave. I would rather it be simply that they are tired of the game or have an addiction that needs to be cured.

Complaining is good if it is constructive... thats the only way we initiate change.
