Ubisoft?
****.

What?!!!?!!!
Ubisoft has this awful DRM policy that crashes games and is a hassle to the users when the pirates are getting the game fine.

Threads like this would have no need of being locked if it wasn't for the people who feel an overwhelming urge to post pointless, useless comments like 4 of the 6 responses above. Just let these threads die, several people all posting that this is a worthless thread, or "lock" is probably less useful than the thread itself. It'll drop off the bottom of the page if you leave it be.

And yes, I do understand the irony of this post before someone brings it up. Do you understand the irony of the fact that the same people, over and over again, spam the spammy threads with spammy comments implying that the thread is spam?

I still don't get this DRM thing. What does it do?

Firt time you launch a game using this system you need to create yourself an online account. Similarly to a PSN account, after the initial assle of creating it, you will be auto-signing everytime you relaunch the game and you obviously need to be online.
So what's new for legit players is that they can't play the game while being offline. However, as an added bonus you get to have your profile and saves anywhere you want them to be. You can continue your game at your buddies' place simply by connecting to your account instead of his.

And right now the game (at least AC2) isn't completely cracked. People are able to boot it offline but they can't play far in the game since the game will check stuff online at man times.

So yeah I see people being annoyed by creating themselves an account only the very first time ever they play a game using this system or to have to quit the game when they lose their internet connection but is it REALLY a big drawback? Does it really freaking ruin your experience? They are here on the net complaining so it seems it's not that hard to be online. And pirate will hate this and voice their opinion really loud on the internet + spread disinformation because well, they sure are frustrated by this complex thing to crack.

People are annoyed because any drop in connection will kick you out of the game (equivalent to the annoyance of having a game crash on you) and any time your internet is down you won't be able to play the games you own.

Also lets not forget all the legitimate purchasers that couldnt play what they paid for because the servers went down the other day.

Sure this is not to ignore but is losing your connection a very common thing? You can't get a better ISP? Aren't you frustrated to even navigate the internet since you're constantly losing the connection it should be a major annoyance. Where to draw the line between "this is a problem with this game" and "this is a problem with my ISP" and does a publisher should be responsible for ISP problems?

For you're second point, this is a temporary and exceptional problem. Not a flaw in the system.
If you follow this logic, your console is a bad way to play games because sometimes you can be out of power or Xbox live might be down or again the Warcraft servers and whatnot. Does this means all of this is flawed and shouldn't be?

Unless you want to play it in two years when the servers are no longer online.
The comparison with Xbox Live is flawed since you can play and save your game just fine even in 50 years (providing your console still works)

I hate the new DRM and am flat out refusing to buy the game because of it. I will quite happily download it. I'm a huge fan of single player games, and now and again when my internet is down and i cant go on TF2, MW2 or whatever online game I go on, something like Mass Effect 2 or GTA:IV will keep me amused for hours. Now it's not a problem with my internet, but I'm a student and every year i have to organise getting myself online in a new house (so I have no internet for usually a month). Though next year I'm going back to halls. We are only allowed 10 ports each to allow for online gaming or whatever, and I'd much rather open up and online game than an offline game with my available ports. I was looking forward to this game and was hoping for a crack to be released soon. However, I recently just got a cheap second PS3 for when I'm in uni and I may actually pick it up on the PS3 now, but the point of the PC's terrible DRM remains. And Syroc has a great point about it being unusuable in the future (though obviously much more than 2 years till the servers stop). I still play megadrive games, and no doubt I'll want to come back to old PC games at one point.

Furthermore, a quote from D2D site:

A PERMANENT INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES AND TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. SUCH CONTENT MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED ONE SINGLE TIME WITH A UNIQUE KEY. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://assassinscreed.com
So they have the right to make the game unplayable 30 days in advance? Screw that.
Anyway rant over.
