A fun level based on a start an finish gate. Requires skills at grabbing a sponge.
A transferal of one of my dune buggy levels on the ps3. It has a loop the loop-im thinking of improving it. Intrested to see what people think. Not too many F4f's please.

Ok I finished ur level and I ended up giving it three stars. I don't mean to say that I didn't enjoy it, as it was very enjoyable but I had a couple of issues with the design. First off, since it is a racing level I would expect to be driving a car throughout the entire level. However, as soon as I got to the first sand bump, my car flipped over and I could find no way to get it right side up again. This actually happened for both cars. I had to walk the rest of the way to the exit as a result. Secondly, I have a suggestion. Use stickers! They can make any level's appearance wayyyyy better. Other than that the rest of the level was fine. I hope to see your future levels.2010-03-09 02:09:00

Hidy Ho trianglepigsquar! I just gave your level a few plays so here I am with some feedback. The only driving levels that I had played on PSP before this one were the Create AS Race levels by MattAst, so I was excited to see what you came up with.

The concept is pretty good, and I enjoyed all of the jumps that you had in the level. Also, I thought that the loop was an excellent touch!

My big problem is the one that has already been mentioned, and that is that the buggy is way to easy to flip over. I tried over and over to keep it right side up (I really did work with it FOREVER). After flipping the first few times, I tried adjusting the speed to try to stay up. That still didn't work, so a few tries later I tried standing on top of the front wheel and making it go instead of standing in the seat. This seemed to work much better, but the buggy still kept flipping and eventually got stuck. I think that it would do wonders if you would just weigh down the buggy at different points. Just test out what happens if you put weight in the front or in the center, or you could try adjusting the speed of the wheels.

Anyway, except for that, I think it would have been nice if there was more scenery. In my opinion, the key to a race level is the scenery. Anyone can make a car, and anyone can place the car in a level, what is important is what that level looks like (and what the track is like, but even if the track is awesome, it will get boring if there is no scenery). Maybe everyone doesn't feel this way, but it's how I have always felt about race levels.

You had some good concepts with this level, and I will look forward to seeing what you come up with next :-)

Hi trianglepigsquar,

I enjoyed your race level, I thought the course was quite fun. I especially liked the loop section, that was a very clever bit of emitting. I also liked the buggy design - it was simple but there was something about them that just looked right. However, I think the level needs a bit of work to make it really playable.

Firstly, I will reiterate Poo's point that you need some more interesting scenery. The design of the course is not bad, but if you want people to play and enjoy your level I think you need to make it much more interesting to look at. I can see that you've gone for a muted brown colour-sceme to match the background, but a lot can be done with this as the materials menu is crammed with different shades of brown. Try experimenting with thin layers in the foreground to create a slightly more tangible environment.

Secondly, the buggies need a little work in terms of their mechanics. I have done a lot of experimenting with vehicles and my absolute top tip is that, even though the material tooltip says that rubber is good for wheels, it isn't always the best material choice. A motor bolt rigged up directly to a grab switch basically has instant acceleration, the torque and the high friction value of the rubber is what causes the vehicle to wheelie uncontrollably, and to flip over. Try experimenting with different materials for your wheels. Rubber is really best for slow vehicles that need to climb hills, you can get a much better result using metal, paper or wood for fast vehicles.

There are other ways to control for the flipping and wheelieing behaviour. I am actually working on a vehicle logic and controls guide that I keep putting off, but I will do my best to get it published this evening, as there isn't much left to do to it.

Since this s a F4F thread, please check out my level "STAR WARS: TIE in the Sky" if you have time. Thanks.

Hi trianglepigsquar (cool name ). Idea with buggy race is great, but I can not drive on buggy until the end - on some hill it certainly turned over and I must go further by foot. Maybe some improvements that salieri advised will be good. And of course some additional environments will add some atmosphere to your level.2010-03-09 11:51:00

Ha, sorry, how predictable that I wouldn't get it online when I said I would - I hadn't named the level, nor given it it's own icon, so when it came to working on it again I couldn't find it! I've just found it today. Should be live in the next couple of days... really.2010-03-11 08:52:00

I played your level and It wasn't bad. The design of the dune buggy was good but it was just too slow. The one loopty loop was great, I actually said to my self "no way this is gonna make it" and it did. Very nice. The track design was good but I think if you made the buggy faster the track would have to be totally redesigned as it is perfect for the buggy's speed as of now.

I gave you four stars.

Since this is F4F can you give my level Fort Sugar III a run?

Hey trianglepigsquar-

Nice little race level you have here. There are improvements that need to be made, but it's still fun. I can confirm that your buggies flip quite easily and quite often. The good news is that they're relatively easy to turn back over. Poo's suggestion to weigh the buggies down a bit is good and you should definitely try that. I'd also recommend turning down the strength of the motor bolts a little to prevent the torque wheelies you're getting. Your loop-de-loop is really awesome, and I'd love to see more of those and/or similar race elements. The terrain is interesting and pretty fun to drive over, but it could use some decorating. Instead of supplying 2 buggies on different layers, just provide 1 buggy and use the other available layers for scenery.

This is a pretty good effort and I gave it 3 stars. Thanks for giving me something to race until Modnation Racers comes out.
