None ATM will get sum up asapSnowy secret military base/ research site
I'm getting ready to post up my first level as soon as I get home. I'm pretty excited to see whAt u guys think as it is my very first level. At the time when I was creating this level my main focus was asthetics and how it looked so please don't bash me for not having any puzzles in the level. After publishing I will be working on puzzles to add to the level and republish it with the added puzzles from there.

This level started off great, nice look, challenging platforming... what's this? A Boss!! Cool beans! Then I died and the check point was over the horrible gas.

If you fix that I would play your level again.

Hidy Ho Spok! I didn't get a chance to finish the level, and it's not because there was a problem, but rather because I had to get off the PSP Anyway, I will give it a good try later on and let you know what I think then. I just wanted to post to ask you about 2 things. First, there were 2 versions of the level. Is there one that I should play and one that I shouldn't?

Secondly, the start confused the heck out of me (where the big "Spok presents" sign is). I run to the right, and then just ended up stuck! I tried running to the left and ended up against some kind of moving object but I couldn't get out and I couldn't see since I was behind a wall. I reloaded and just ran left and then something began pushing me. I then ran right and was able to get out and into the playable part of the level??? Man, I am sooooo confused.

Anyway, I am excited to give this level a full playthrough because it seems that it will have a story, and I LOVE stories in levels

I'd love to hear what you think about my level Shallow Springs, but feel free to wait to give feedback until I have held up my side of the deal and given you a full playthrough and feedback on your level

For ur first question, you don't need to worry anymore because I just went online and deleted everything except for the final version which is now posted up. I'm sure that will make it a lot less confusing . Secondly, actually ur just supposed to stand still and let the level work it's magic. Don't worry it shuld get you where you need to be.but If it still doesn't do that for whatever reason, then please tell me right away so I can check it out. I'm looking forward to seeing what u and everyone else has to say about my level. I have already tried out ur level btw and I'll get on that review asap tommorow cuz i'm tired ritE now. Great level! I got a bit confused about the storyline though. Apart from this it was a fun and playable level. It took me a while to jump across the broken bridge-its quite a distance! The boss really supprised me, I didnt realise that I had to jump down the hole at first.:star::star::star::star:2010-03-09 07:35:00

Judging by your initial post, this level is an interesting concept that I haven't given feedback on before. It seems to me that you are actually going to be continually adding to the level and republishing. Did I understand that right? The reason I say that is that you say that you will be adding puzzles and stuff.

Anyway, I will comment on what you have so far. My previous post stated that I seemed to have broken the level when I ran to the right at the start instead of allowing your mechanics to push me. I tried running to the right on the current version that you have published now, and I had no problems, so whatever was wrong before seemed to be fixed now, which is excellent :-)

Like I said before, I was excited that your level had a story. The things that really caught my attention were the sound effects and the camera angles. These are two things that a lot of authors take for granted, and you implemented them well!

I would say that the level is too short, but since you are adding to it, I really can't judge that aspect of the level yet :-)

There were two small, easily fixable issues that I saw in the level. One was an actual problem, and the other was just something that was annoying.

The problem was that when I was on top of the house to press the button which opens the garage, if I jumped I could see outside of the black background, and that looks sort of silly and takes away from the atmosphere that you have created. Fortunately, it will be an easy fix that you can apply to your next update.

The thing that I found annoying was when you had the garage door open with the button. The button seemed to be wired directly to a piston which held the garage door up, and the button was set to "On-Off". It would all work much better if you created a simple perm switch which makes it so once you push the button, the garage door opens all the way, and then it stays open (even if you push the button again). If you are unfamiliar with perm switches, feel free to PM me and I would be glad to describe them in detail.

That's all I have for now. I will be looking forward to future updates!

Hi spok22,

Just had a play of your level and I thought it was really cool. The building design was nice - reminded me a bit of the snowy level in Goldeneye on the good ole' N64. I like the going in and out of building, and the layer switching, the part where you simply go inside the building, and then out through the other door to get past the fence was a fairly simple thing but made the scenery seem very convincing and plausible. I also liked the way the story was unravelled slowly, it added a great sense of mystery.

I agree with poo about the garage door, although personally I think having any hidden logic for that bit is unnecessary - I'd just replace the button with a two-way switch set to directional.

The big spiky boss thing was pretty good, I liked the design of it. There are a couple of issues with it, though. Firstly - when I ran from it and jumped down the hole, something killed me while I was reading the text box at the bottom, which was very confusing as I ended up back on the surface. So I walked back to the right and saw the boss again, only this time I discovered the boss was only 1 layer thick and that if I was on the back layer I could run straight past it and out of the level. The next time I jumped down the hole I survived, so I have no idea what caused me to die the first time.

That said, I think this level does a lot of things right and I look forward to seeing where you take it in the future.

S

EDIT: Oh, and since this is a F4F thread, please check out my level "STAR WARS: TIE in the Sky" if you get a chance. Cheers.

Yup, I always like to go overboard with the logic

when I ran from it and jumped down the hole, something killed me while I was reading the text box at the bottom, which was very confusing as I ended up back on the surface.

This happened to me as well. It's off, because I initially thought that it was because of the long fall onto an uneven surface, but then why does it not kill you the second time? Do all of those rocks fall on top of you or something when you get down there?

Hi, spok22! I tried your level right now and must say, that it has very good atmosphere at the beginning. Very cool - abandoned base, some mystery, good work with editing buildings. But then after tank - oops.. what is it? How I can open door? How I an reach jetpack? This is some kind of boss? But who is it (some mix of walls and hedgehog), what player must do to defeat it? And why I can go behind it and fall out from the level? Maybe more hints for players will be good. Only one arrow here, shows left, yes it can help, but why only it? And than - after falling in hole(by the way - why I must jump there?) I can not understand - where sackboy is, I just can see some wall. And then after a little text I show finish table... TA-ta... so - here is end. But why?

You created some big mystery. I think that all this level is some kind of introduction for something big and interesting. So I will wait for continue.

Hi Spok!
Nice to know that you are willing to make changes and republished your level so fast!
I think you have a nice Story started here. I also like the layer switching which was already mentioned.
i dont really have much more to add. maybe it would be nice to actualle drive that little tank thing. But this could be something to look forward too in your next level?

besides that:
I walked past the boss, too...
And i died in the pit when i fell down there the first time.
(Just for the statistic )

After all i gave this level 3 Stars which means its worth playing. I think your next creations could be really good and this one was a good story teaser.

You could give me some feedback on my level "Trapped Transition" (if you didnt do that yet)

Hey u guys Thx everyone for all the amazing the feedback.I really enjoyed looking through it and seeing peoples suggestions on how to make it better.to tell u guys the truth, I Actually didn't expect to get so much positive feedback so I was pleasantly surprised when I came on here. For the boss being one layer, I could have sworn I had fixed that but I will go back and check it out. Also, for the garage door, I was actually trying to find a way to keeep it open permanantly so that perm switch suggestion will definitely come in use. Thanks again for all the comments and I will get all that fixed by later .If not todY then def by tomorrow. Also I look forward to trying out everyones levels and leaving feedback.2010-03-09 23:49:00

Thanks for being so being so willing to make changes to your level! Learning how to improve your creations is a difficult process, but you're past the hard part now.

I just searched for this level and couldn't find it, so I assume you've pulled it down to work on it. Let me know when it's back up and I'll give it a play!
