Classic Video Games?

Archive: 13 posts

I think that LBP should be able to cater to a more classic video game crowd. For example:
-Front View in Play Mode (For a more classic side-scroller look)
-Doors (Teleporters that won't kill you!)
-Anti-Gravity Boots (Or any other feature that lets one jump higher)
-Invisible Brains (Need I say more?)
-Unrestrained Water (Water that can be placed like any other material)
-Item Boxes (...what?)
-Fade-Out Material (Material that is always solid but fades away when you are "behind" it)
-Flip Switch (a switch that causes objects to reverse direction) (like in create mode!)

...If you can think of anything else, please feel free to comment.

Front view: YES.
Doors: Why? This isn't that useful.
Anti-Gravity boots: No.
Invisible Brains: Would be useful.
Unrestained Water: This isn't possible considering how the engine handles it. It's basically just a plane, under which the physics are 'watery'.
Item Boxes: Explain.
Fade-Out material: see my suggestion, invisibity changer.
Flip Switch: I could see use for this.

Doors would be good if you wanted to make a level divided into sections that wouldn't interact with one another.
As for the water, maybe Media Molecule should make the mater more like a "zone" where everything inside it is watery, and the "zone" is controlled by a kind of switch.

As I said before, that's not possible. The engine isn't made for that. From what I think how it's made at least.2010-03-07 18:19:00

Item boxes that you could hit (by jumping underneath and bumping like mario, as an example) that would give out point bubbles or something? I remember Nobody had something like this in his SuperSackboy levels...2010-03-07 19:51:00

I agree with the The water one, instead of a full Water thing, its would be great to use water for different stuff such as puddles, a Waterfall (with real Water actually falling down), you could make like water currents and so on, but the others arent really that necesary.2010-03-07 22:08:00

Some of those suggestions sound useful. However, there are creative ways around them. For an example check out my Insectoids level. Its a retro arcade inspired level that solved some of these problems.2010-03-08 00:46:00

I can tell you're a big Mario fan, as for all of these things are integrated into the Mario games. Except the Unrestrained water. In Mario games, the water fill the entire level.2010-03-08 01:34:00

You could use proximity switches to make the item boxes emit the item you want. You could do this in so many ways, really.2010-03-10 12:43:00

-Front View in Play Mode- YEAH!
-Doors- Yes!
-Anti-Gravity Boots- Dont think they'd be useful
-Invisible Brains- Only Protected ones
-Unrestrained Water- Maybe like I dunno if anyones used lunar magic (SMW editor) but water is swimmable but doesnt flow, it should be like that
-Item Boxes- Yes
-Fade-Out Material- Could be useful
-Flip Switch- Dont quite understand what you mean here
