Magic Mouth Movie Help

Ok, I am making a level and there is one part where I use magic mouths to make cutscenes. When I transistion between magic mouths though (By use of a permanent switch) the speech bubble appears in the background and I have to press O to see it. In some levels though, I've seen it where the magic mouth pops up and is readable over the first one automatically when it is triggered, without the player having to do anything. You might say, why can't the players just press circle? Becuase they would miss the important part of the scene unless I told them when to press circle. Background speech bubbles appear when a second mouth is triggered while the first one is still active. If you want to make them pop up automatically, you would manually turn off the first then immediately turn on the second. You can do this a number of ways, but a popular way is to slap a mag key on a block and have that block extend via piston. Along the same axis (i.e. on DM parallel to the piston) are mag switches with non-overlapping radii. Basically then, when you want to trigger a cutscene, the piston begins to extend past the first mag switch attached to and activating the first mouth. As it passes out of the range of the first switch, the speech bubble automatically closes, and it enters the next switch's range, activating the second bubble and so forth. If timed well, this transition becomes instantaneous and it "appears" that the second bubble becomes readable over the first. You can also do this type of logic with mine cart & track instead of pistons, but it's slightly more thermo-heavy. | 2010-03-06 16:18:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |
