Future City Los AngelesJustinArt
http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=13496Enter the futuristic city filled with technologies. Explore areas like "Entertain Zone", "Game Room", "Movie Studio", and more. There's plenty of surprises in this level too.
I made this awesome level after I'm done creating all of my "The Hero Quest" Levels and it insanely took me 2 weeks to finish this level. It pretty much resembles one the largest cities in the US except that the year is 2034. There's platforming, puzzle solving, mini boss battle, and racing. There's also a big surprise for those who beat all 10 of my "The Hero Quest" level series. Look at my creations for more info of my levels.

I have recently updated this level. The race track part is polished with corner edit tool and I added a few new objects to the Game Room and Movie Studio [2 movie characters, 2 game systems [wii and ps3], guitar and drum controller from Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and an arcade]. I also polished certain areas of the level including dynamic 3D layers. I wish I can add new stickers, but this level is almost overheated and new stickers will end up become blurry. I see no bugs and glitches so the level is fine. I also added new pics to this level so check them out.2010-03-19 18:57:00

Hey, I played this level a few days ago. I thought it was a fun one to play, but the car track was a tad unpolished (will give it another play, now that it's updated).
Otherwise it looked a lot better than your earlier levels, and progress was clearly made on logic side too.

Aw, I always feel bad for the people who get absolutely no feedback. I'll add this to my play list. 2010-03-19 21:56:00

Are you from LA? Because if you are, I hope you added my house in your level... because my house is rad.2010-03-19 22:02:00

Yeah it's true. I learned a lot of tricks up my sleeves in this level after I'm done with the Hero Quest Level Series [I'm still updating them though], and the 3D layers made this level looked a lot cooler.

Of course I'm from LA, but I don't have enough room to add your house. Thanks for the suggestion though. I really enjoyed your Aeon Quest Level by the way.

I updated this level last night. I changed the materials of certain materials and added a few more new stickers. However, I added 2 new things to level. One is in the 3D layer [Hint: Frank Gerry made this architectural masterpiece] and the other is in the secret room [which is also a new surprise]. I also polished the race track part again so that the race track is a bit smoother. And finally the Monorail's door is moving much faster as it closes.

From the start, great use of the 3D glitch. Traffic jam was hilarious!
Cars are not my kinda thing, but i'm sure a lot of people will love the solar panel vehicles
Don't know if this was intentional, but you dont get hurt from the indiana jones spikes (pistons), they dont come down far enough, and sackboy just ducks.
Episode 10. Lol! Loved those future references throughout.
Flowers in the direct foreground looked great!
Decorations on the spinning Xs! Funky! nice idea

Overall a nice relaxing level with interesting yet quirky visuals.

I just played it, it was pretty good. The cars were neat, and the puzzles were good. The Steven Sackberg thing made me laugh. The visuals were pretty decent too.

Glad you both liked it. I'll fix the spikes part if I have time to update this level. Thanks for awesome feedbacks. I appreciate it.

Hey, Justin. Did a two-player run through your level earlier tonight, had a lot of fun with it.

Cool Things:
- The future! Not really good input for me to just cry "the future!", but it's my favorite setting, so that's just a bonus!
- I liked the use of the 3D effect with the buildings to give dimension to the city. Really made hopping along flying cars all the more immersive
- Good humor with the Steven Sackberg bit, made me laugh

Suggestions:

- After the first leg of the race, my friend and I were neck and neck and it was a heated competition. Needless to say we flew right past the giant sign that said "STOP!". We jammed our cars right up against the wall and it took us a couple minutes of maneuvering to get enough space to slip through. If it's possible to make the cars go in reverse I'm going to feel very sheepish in suggesting this, but could you come up with a way to stop the cars and give a little more clearance to proceed if you ignore the sign?
- During the studio sequence, there's a wall at the beginning that comes down to keep you from going back. My friend went on ahead and triggered that wall, and I was stuck on the other side of it and had to pop. Maybe you could put a require all on the proximity switch?
- The timing on the spike walls that drop down during the Indiana Jones sequence is such that you can just run from beginning to end at the right time in one go to clear them. Maybe you could change their sync up a little so they'd require more planning on the part of the player?
- Right before the magnetic key puzzle near the end, you have a remove powerup X blocking a doorway so the player can't get back out with the jetpack. That X isn't actually glued down. We ended up nudging it out of the way accidentally, and then spent the better part of our time flying all around the outside of your level. Gluing it down should put a stop to that! : D

Bottom Line: The future! Yes!

If you're still good for feedback, can you give me some input on my F4F level? Thanks!

I just finished your level. It was quite fun. I liked all the different areas and thought you did a really good job with the visuals and having a bit of humor thrown in there.

My only suggestion would be to get rid of the whole "stop" thing in the middle of your race as it felt like it ruined the fast pace of the of the car race. I also was confused on what to do and it took me a couple of second to figure out that i needed to get in another car. I would look into making it just one long section.

If you have a chance could you check out my retro retribution level? It isn't that great but just looking for feedback.

Positives:
I simply loved the car hopping sequence in the beginning of the level, it really felt like I was jumping from car to car in rush hour. It reminded me of the taxi chase seen in the movie "The Fifth Element". You had some really nice visual ideas and you did a great job at executing your visual intent! I also thought you had some really great platforming ideas. I thought the dragon boss looked really nice.

Suggestions:
This level would be so much better if you prevented players from seeing outside of the level terrain. When you get near the edges of certain play areas, you could see the floor and walls of the level. It makes it feel less like being in a future city and more like being in part of a model of a future city that wasn't quite finished. I also felt the boss monster should be a bit more challenging. His attacks were very easy to avoid simply by getting close to him, and he was a little too easy to defeat.

Keep up the good work!

I just played your level. I liked it.

What I liked: The level was long. Most people put so much visuals into their levels these days that there is no game-play factor. You have lots of game-play.
The restore power puzzle was really fun.
The 3d glitch was well used.
The race track was fun.

What could have been better: The visuals were simple. I personally care more about game-play, but there could have been better visuals to the level. Much of it was squares and rectangles. But that's about it on what I think could have been better.

My suggestions: I saw a sensor switch on the part where the fire boulder rolls down at the player. Normally you don't want players to see your switches. There was not much to do in most of the level. If you want a relaxing level this is fine, but if you want to add more of a challenge then maybe throw in some more deadly obstacles, or some enemies (futuristic gangsters or malfunctioning crazy robots lol). You may not want to do these things, or may have an overheated level so just use my suggestions as you will.

I liked your level and will be playing some of your others I gave this level four stars. Good work and keep em coming.

Please play and give feedback on my "Space: Above and Beyond 2" level. Avoid my first Space: Above and beyond level unless you want to play it. But the sequel is much much better.

Thanks for the suggestion guys. I see that most of you have difficulties with the "STOP!" sign thing so I'll think of something that could make the race cycle completely stopped and stay in balance. Glad a lot of you enjoyed the visuals of this level. The visuals of this level wasn't just inspired by a place I lived but it was also inspired by the "Star Wars" movies, "The Fifth Element", "Blade Runner", and any sci-fi movies taking place near the future [well it's not entirely a future level, at least it shows what the world would look like 24 years for now.]. I'll do my best to fix certain things in this level. I'm trying to avoid getting this level 96% or higher of the thermometer cause if it does, the boss battle will be completely messed up. Keep up with the feedbacks guys.2010-04-11 18:40:00

I just updated this level based on the feedbacks. The cycles now have a protected brain so that when you get to the "STOP!" sign, the cycle disappears. The race track now has 2 separate race start and finish gates; one in half the track the other in the other half. I also adjusted the moving spikes in the Movie Studio section. I tweaked a few switches so that Co-op players can enjoy it more and I added the invisible wall a bit further near the T-Rex so that no one will cheat using an cheating angle with a paintinator. I gave the level a bit more visuals including a cool Mega City scenery sticker I got from "2000AD Costume Pack" and I made the Wii and PS3 objects much larger. Hope the recent update give this level a stronger boost of fun.2010-04-12 00:21:00

I think I played your level before this latest update, and I confess I may not have read all 17 posts... so this might have been covered previously.

You got a good visual style... bakscratch glitch presented a visible future city! I didn't really take any notes when playing your level... which is both good and bad. Specifically it means everything pretty much worked as it was supposed too... conversely, it means my jaw didn't drop and gameplay wasn't particularly original. I am not a big fan of just holding R1 as a car zips along... there's not lot of skill in it or fun in it to me. with that said your visuals were good... and as noted earlier... the traffic jam and foreground flowers stood out as high points!

The puzzles scale for me was really weird, as in big. Because we're searching-- I found the exit and it was weird seeing the guy there waiting for me in the dark... I also took some of the challenge, out of the challenge, as if you go back to the start the radius of sensor is such that the lights come back on. Think about diminishing radius or going one-shot!

solid fun, solid visuals. 4 stars.

I just played this, and I thought it was a bit sloppy. A lot of the material combinations you used didn't mesh to me (most notably on the cars), and everything was really blocky. However, I commend the detail. It was clear that the background had a lot of work put into it. The premise was very interesting, it definitely kept you wanting to move on. The one room where you have to get the power back on I thought was unneccessarily big and the only thing that was difficult about it was trying to find all of those things in the dark. Perhaps you could add some of the MGS pack grid material on a wafer thing layer in the background to give you a path to the blocks. The race section stood out for me as especially sloppy. Although the vehicles were cool, the track was obviously made by just going along with the circle tool. It would have looked much better if you had just stuck to squares and triangles to make the track, and adjusting the steepness of ramps and jumps with the corner editor. Also, in the race, the background layer just stops halfway through.

You're not a bad creator by any means, though I think the way you make your levels could certainly be improved. This was an interesting level with some pretty cool parts (I liked the 5D video game), you have some talent. I'd like to see you improve.

Thanks for the point and good feedback GRAVEL. I lowered the radius of the lights around the power storage already. I thought putting the light back on when you get back out and going back in to make the lighting dark again will make it more logical.

Thanks for a mixed feedback Awesomemans. I tried to make the race track much smoother with corner edit tool and place the square shaped materials around it, but it wouldn't do anything. However I did added the square shaped VR grid materials around the power plant puzzle to give players a small hint. I have to remind myself to use the square and/or triangle shaped material instead of circle to make the races if I feel like creating a racing obstacle. Many people seem to enjoyed the racing part however.

Thanks oldGanon for a feedback and nice sarcasm too but don't you mean 2012? I even showed proof the world will not end in that year ha ha.

Also I added the newest metal material from "The Incredibles" level kit by using the material changer tool and the "HOLLYWOOD" sign, Walt Disney Concert Hall, wall from Entertain Zone, Monorail, and some buildings looked a lot better. I didn't know this until my recent update, but I used the corner edit tool to make the buildings at the beginning of the level even taller and it even got out of the level's corner. Thanks for feedbacks.

heya, First sorry for the large delay in getting this feedback to you. I only noticed your post on my level The Castle of the Corrupt King recently, it's quite an old level lol and I haven't checked it in ages. regardless, here's your F4F

I thought your level was good! you did a great job with the 3D glitch, future los angeles looks like a pretty fun place to be There was a lot to do in the level and the constantly changing environments using movie sets, arcades and industrial settings kept things interesting. well done! As far as improvements go, I think that some areas needed some visual work. the start of the level, with all the cars and background buildings looked good, but rooms like the generator room and the car race shortly thereafter didn't seen consistent with the visuals on the rest of the level. I also think you could have a better puzzle to turn the generator on, that one is overly done and isn;t fun anymore, because of how many level's it's been used in. Besides that, great level! lots of diversity, some interesting ideas and a great take on future Los Angeles 4 stars!
