The Dream Home Thread

My dream home would probably be a 3 story mansion. The family room would consist of some overstuffed leather couches and chairs, a fireplace, coffee table, and big-screen HDTV. My bedroom would have a bathroom with a whirlpool inside, with a 2 sink vanity and waterproof HDTV inside. The downstairs would have a complete home-theater gamer system, with a 250GB PS3, surround sound, soda machines, snack machines, 72'' LED TV, leather coches, gaming chairs, a Rock Band set, and a Porsche 911 Turbo racing wheel to go along with my racing games. My video game library would have games like Uncharted 2, Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands, Bad Company 2, CoD: WaW, Rock Band 2, and BF 1943. I would also have a movie library, or I would just have Netflix premium service or something like that. My backyard would have a basketball court, volleyball court, pool, drink & snack venders, sauna, an open field for miscellaneous games, and a foresty, dense area for air-soft and paintball wars.

What would you like your dream home to be like?

I'm being completely honest here, but my dream home would be a little more like Thoreau's hand-built shack from Walden. Just the tiniest little abode, something that would look nice in nature, with a fireplace. It doesn't really fit with my lifestyle - I do a lot of high-tech work at home and play games and watch movies on an LCD. But the last thing I would want is my own castle. Something very small and manageable and that's as far from Suburbia as you can manage.

Aside from a wee Walden outdoorsy shack, I'd rather live in a little old character home, turn of the century or so, with lots of exposed bricks (and a gul-durned fireplace), in the middle of the city (once again, my priority is on staying as far away from the suburbs as I can manage). I've seen some unbeLIEVABLY cool houses here in Vancouver, but real estate's ridiculous. This "cute little character home" probably goes for a few million to own. Seeya later.

My dream home would be like Frodo's house but a lot bigger and more modern obviously. Oh and don't forget environmentally friendly.

It would be an estate, quite honestly, situated in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The main home would be a large log home, built to look like a ski-ing lodge, preferably built over a natural river (there are houses I've seen that do this…Frank Lloyd Wright used this on one occassion….

The main social/living room area would have two-to-three story windows overlooking the mountains, and stairs to a small loft with a bookshelf over the main space. This loft would also lead into the hall that would take a visitor to the sleeping area of the house (mainly their sleeping area, but they could get to mine, too.) Most of the sleeping quarters, due to being situated on the top floor, would have the slanted ceiling deal going on, as well as a couple of sky-lights.

The lounge would be where I would entertain a much smaller number of guests (say, my family, or 2-3 friends). From the main entrance, on the left would be the kitchen, on the right would be the way to get to the social area, and in the center would be the stairwell (which would only end up being about 10-15 stairs) to go up into the lounge. Having a couple of couches and recliners, and a coffee table. There would be a rather large flat screen, with Blu-Ray player and small library of titles. There would be windows, set a bit higher in the wall, which would allow you to see the sunset.

If you were to take the branch on the right, you would find a stairwell leading to the basement on your left. Down there would be a VERY large TV (I'm talking Hi-Def projector), with as many game consoles as I could afford. By this point, my library would be fairly substantial, and there would be a much larger library of movies as well. A bar would be situated off to one side, a billiards table, and a patio door set up so I could easily go outside in the summer months. If you continued down the staircase, you would then find a smaller indoor pool. Outside, on the aforementioned patio, would be a large hot-tub. The bar would be able to function almost as amazing as the kitchen on the main floor.

A lofty tower on the edge of an extinct volcano with a spiralling road that wraps around it 7 times suggesting a ptolemaic model of the universe or dante's mount purgatory.

The facade of the building would be of gold entwined serpents and stuff with ivory columns and a huge lion door knocker, there are garish neon lights adding further decoration. There would also be two persian shedu statues guarding the entrance.

The interior would be art deco with romanesque couches and bowls of grapes under a vaulted ceiling of fresco paintings of scenes from The Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy.

Instead of pipes and taps there would be aqueducts and an elaborate under-floor heating system powered by steam engines.

Overall the entire place would be like a luxury liner or movie theatre with quasi-masonic overtones and filled with slot machines.

Welcome to my crib.
