Judgement Day.

Archive: 6 posts

Now this is my next level that I was creating until after the 2.04 update made it so that I can not even edit the level so I had to delete it. I would love if you guys could be some new ideas to build on this like what would be the best way to get an airplane to fly in and have an explosive crash.2010-03-05 20:31:00

For the explosion I would recommend checking out the way salieri did the rebel fighter sabotage mission in TIE in the Sky. Basically just make a big spiky "fan" of thin-layer gas in an appropriate shape and color, and emit it with a short lifetime. If you hook this up to the destruction of the airplane, it will go boom with a flash and then be gone. Pretty cool effect.

And as for "Judgment Day" I thought it was going to be like Terminator 2... but both ideas are good!

There are a number of ways you could do the aeroplane - is it an aeroplane that comes crashing down from above or is sackboy in it when it crashes? The best way to destroy something if you don't want to use dissolve is to hide a creature brain inside the object and hook it up to a switch. That is, if you don't mind the player scoring a few points when it happens.

I recently made almost all of a level that I eventually abandoned due to incurable lag that started in a lab that was being bombed. In one section, you are about to cross a bridge when a shell falls from the sky and blows the bridge up - it was one of my favourite parts. I'll let you know exactly how I did it if that's the kind of thing you want to do.

Basically just emit the airplane when the level starts (what's an aeroplane? ) and then emit it again offscreen when you want it to disappear. It will go "poof" without being made out of dissolve, without giving points, and without making that weird little squeal/pop noise.

For the sake of making it all less complex but still nice to look at, I like salieri's idea of a hidden creature brain the best.

I like your idea but the airplane is not actually brought down by the monster but the engines die so I was thinking of putting a ton of dissolve around some building plus using one shot emitters for the explosion cloud for a really cool opening. Also sackboy will be in there and this is how I am going to start the level off.
