Level Showcase Needs Help

Archive: 12 posts

Im not sure if this is the right section for this, if not then can a mod please move it. I know i couldn't think of a better name for this thread, please just read what i have to say.

Recently i do make quite a few posts here a day, i don't normally make any threads well at least not on a daily basis, but whenever i post a level in the level showcase thread people never reply to it, im not sure if this is just me or wheather it's the name of the levels. I know this happens to some other people as well, they make a really good level put it in the level showcase here on LBPC yet within a day its on page 2 of the showcase.

I generally get really annoyed at this but just today i got so annoyed i thought i would make this thread. Basically i spent hours on my level and put blood (literally), sweat and tears into my level, and now its published its already half way down the page. Now it's not the fact that i havent allowed enough time for this, because i have seen levels posted that get up to 10 replys within the first hour of it being uploaded.

Even wiht F4F on it dosent make a differnce. What i am trying to say is can the community members look at more levels then just the ones wiht good names because someone might have given a level a rubbish name but the level is super good. I just hate to see people's levels other than mine be totally destroyed when they are really good.

So members of LBPC i encourage you to take a leap and look at levels in the level showcase that you normally wouldn't, even levels wiht no views or comments, you can be the first. Please don't just do this for me do it for everyone whose levels get demoted in the level showcase.

Thanks you for taking your time to read this, i hope i got the message through to you.

i can second that. usually people will reply if they made it or played it before. or if they know you.Any way, don't get discouraged and send a link to this review to all of your friends on LBPC. they might help spread the word if they are the advirtising type (like me) best of luck.2010-03-04 22:29:00

Just a question.. on your F4F are you proactive? It can really help quite a bit. Are you simply waiting for folks to play your or do you go play other F4F levels and leave informative feedback as well as mention which level you would like them to try for their F4F.

..if you are proactive, it works much much better.

I just want to second what JWW said. If you take the initiative, and give feedback on as many f4f's as you can your bound to get some reply's to your thread. Just make sure you pay attention to the levels header, and make sure it has the f4f tag.2010-03-04 23:19:00

I'd like to THIRD that.... what jww and smasher said.... I purposely leave F4F on my level threads so that if someone wants to get my attention by checking out one of my creations, I will reciprocate. I'm sure MANY creators feel the same way.... if you aren't a well-known creator and you want to get noticed, be proactive and try other people's creations and give them some feedback, then ask for some feedback in return.2010-03-04 23:58:00

Well, if their level thread says "F4F" and you give them feedback, you have the right to request they give you feedback in return. If they won't, report them.

If you are anticipating a return in F4F, at the end of your post, state very clearly which level you'd like feedback on. I know you've heard it again and again, but in addition to F4F, making a thread which is neat, orderly, spell-checked, etc will go a long way to garnering attention. Also, if you can include pictures, people are way more inclined to check it out.

That said, the nature of the levels you make can have a big impact. If you are making a level that is terribly cliche (which I'm not implying is the case), people may opt out of playing.

Edit: okay, I see you have pictures. I might caution you about the speech bubble in one of them, though. It says, "I think there might be too much text." Whether or not this is referring to your level, it subconsciously (or maybe even consciously) raises red flags that there might be a lot of text in the level. People read very heavily into the pictures you choose to include.

Also, you provide us with almost no basis for what the level is about. You don't have to spoil the story, but we at least might want to know what the context of the level is. 'Heroes vs. Villains' is quite vague, and can be any number of things.

Just trying to help.

I took a look at a few of your posts on other F4F levels in the past few weeks. Only one did I find that had much of any feedback and you didn't mention what you wanted for your F4F. The very few others I found were simply notes that said either 'Good Job' or you would play it soon. Another F4F, you sorta blasted someone for having such a short level. I didn't look further back than a few weeks, but from what I've seen in that time frame your current results aren't that surprising.

Take notice of how others do F4F, notice how detailed their comments are, easy to read (good grammar really helps), and remember to specify which level you want checked out for your F4F. If you do lots of F4F and leave good feedback as well as remember to specify which level you want them to look at, I think you will find it works quite well.
