Racroz/Eprim's Reviews!

Hey, How's it going! i have some free time so i thought "why not spend it playing LBP WHILE helping the community?"
and here i am! at your service

The reviews will be made with these rules:

The reviews will be splt in 2 parts: Gameplay(story, fun and coolness) and Visuals
The reviews will be as long as they need to be and i'll try to adress the problems and how to fix them
If your review is short, it is because i couldn't find any problems but also, nothing really great that's worth mentioning
I won't give your level a rating because i believe you can't really express how good a level is by just saying "4 stars"
Reviews will take about 5 days or less to be posted, if i'm not swamped or busy IRL then less than 2 days

And that's it! I'm a nice guy, so don't fear any harsh criticism but also don't expect me to sugar-coat bad things

Ok i just played it
i think it's a fun little level, enemies are kinda weird, its pretty hard avoiding yellow snow, i liked that the flashlights respawn if you break one and that the action is constant.
the level looks ok and has good materials combination but i REALLY think you should give the Corner editor a try, it does wonders
Veridict: Level is fun, worth the time and has the right lenght
also don't forget sheb, Corner editor!

Thanks for the review, the corner editing tool seems to be coming up a lot but I'm still not quite sure what you guys mean. I think it is that the ground shouldn't be so flat, is this correct?2010-03-05 06:40:00

nope, its a tool that lets you(obviously) edit corners to make better shapes, its on the page with the lethalizer tools, its an arrow.2010-03-05 06:44:00

Yes, but what do you suggest I be doing with it. I used it on the background and many other places like the icicles. I'm just wondering what else you suggest.2010-03-05 06:51:00

i saw many spots where you tried to make the background even, using the square material shape and that looks blocky, if you used the corner editor you could eliminate some corner so you have a nice, straight line
you know what im saying?

ok gmerrit, just played it
Visuals:
It has a lot of nice details, good use of materials and lightning and the pandas are ok
the garden looks very nice, only problem, you used dark matter as clouds, you couldve used some sponge material or rubber if you liked how the white dark matter looked.

Gameplay:
It's ok, the puzzles were creative and there's a lot of swinging but i feel it needed more plataforming and the jetpack section couldve used something more than just bubbles.

It's a good looking level with fun puzzles but needs more plataforming to make it better
Good job Gmerritt, i think that after i played, your level regained a 4 stars rating.

No problemo!

m306 trash drop- shebhnt
I like it, its a fun lil' minigame, i liked the concept but i think you could've used something better looking than cardboard and rock for the begining and you really need to sticker the bags properly other than that there's nothing significant that is wrong, Good, fun level just needs work on the visuals.

Snowy adventure- Joejimbob
I liked this one, it was fun and the action was constant and fluid, only problem in gameplay, ball rolling down is too fast and snowmans in the way take too many shots for a ball coming down at that speed, Visuals were nice and easy on the eyes, i would call them "just about right".
good level, good job

anyways guys, imma play drums in a recital this saturday so i have to go to rehearsals, so i will play the rest on sunday or probably sooner

Ok

Attack of the BORG part 5 by Ajn-something lol
Ok i liked this level, its very cool and very detailed
GAMEPLAY
The characters worked and it was fun, i liked that there was a bunch of secrets to find and that the whole level is like a giant puzzle but that was also 2 small, tiny problems for me: 1.most of the time i didnt knew where to go because the passages were pretty similar and i was like "have i been here? mmm am i supposed to go back?" and 2. Because it had multiple forks i had this nag on the back of my head thinking "did a missed something? a lock or something?" this was because i couldnt go back the way i came on like a couple of ocassions, i wouldve wished for more plataforming because it was mostly running from obstacle to obstacle, i really liked the hovercrafts(was it "crafts"?) i think you shouldve added more of those because the spinning things with electric spikes werent really my fave obstacle in any level ive played, they are just a tad odd to go through, still i had fun playing the level.

VISUALS
The visuals are great, there's alot of different material combined really great and the lights really give it this alien feeling, ive never seen any star trek movie or episode but i know that the BORG are this greenish human/robot guys that turn humans into robots like them and you really gave it nice lightning that fits the theme of the level and the location... mmm so that's it nothing more to say
Good level, fun gameplay but not really my type and some nice visuals!
Great job dude!

Titanic by Wesfun
GAMEPLAY
its fun but i would like it more if you felt more pression while youre trying to escape the sinking ship, you know? like something to turn the escape into a challenge and that really makes you want to hurry up and get out, i think you could pull this off with some obstacles or something, not hazardous, just things that get in your way
it seems like you put effort to the rooms and the ship but its had to really apreciate it while youre playing because the ship is falling apart and you have to run so you dont die and this makes it impossible to explore the rooms properly also i think it need more music that adds tension to the escape. also its a bit hard seeing where you are in the place with the windows, right after you climb up all the stairs and come up to the top and also the titanic music at the end is a grat touch to the level.

VISUALS
The Ship is awesome, it Incredibly detailed and it looks very nice, everything looks very good BUT the only thing i find kinda ugly is the letters that say "I survived titanic"
you couldve used some fonts, theres a lot of font levels out there... ok thats it
Nice level but i alreay explained everything
Good job Wes!

Ok so i just have to get started with the universal universe and the awesomemans levels

Whew ok im here for Universal Universe and Waffle world prologue

Universal Universe by Shabalingadondong(lol i forgot, too lazy to check)
Ok im just gonna review part 3 because i assume thats the one that represents you current skills more
Fine i'll get right to the point: This is not a very good level, i say that with the most humble tone

VISUALS
ok i'm gonna try to be really constructive because you need it, what's the point in just bashing a level?, what's that gonna help you with?
So, helpful tips to improve at visuals, some of them based on some problems i saw throughout the 3 levels
1. Never and i mean Never let your dark matter exposed, always hide it, if you're trying to make something fly in the air, first get a piece of dark matter and reduce it in size as much as possible, it will become invisible, then paste that tiny, insvisible piece of dark matter to anything you want floating.
2. Pick a theme for your levels and when you have it try to stay close to it by using materials and decorations, that you think fit in the whole context, you may go a little off, with like a cave or something but try to keep it constant enough, don't throw random material together or anything like that, make sure your chosen materials(and decorations) look good when used together.
3. Start to get familiarized with the corner editor so you can get better, cleaner shapes. Now this is important, because even though i saw uneven things and backgrounds, the Corner Editor is still ESSENTIAL to every above-decent creator, i really mean it, try to start fooling around with it, try to make a simple face of something.
4. Get playing community levels from good creators(idk, morgana, they're all great.) and take a close look at their visuals, compare them with yours and see and how you could improve yours, this will lead to getting cleaner visuals.

GAMEPLAY
Ok here's some types for Gameplay
1. LBP is a plattaforming game, try to get some of it on your levels, it does'nt matter if you're just jumping from a platform to another with a fire pit below, That's fun! it's just simple fun, it's enough to get everyone entertained while playing, also another basic LBP mechanic is swinging, add some swings, platforms and a couple of puzzles combine all that with decent visuals and you're all set, you got yourself a decent, entertaining LBP level, from that point on you can only improve. now it doesnt sound that hard, does it?
2. Also try to get some puzzles in, puzzles are also fun and make every level better, it doesnt matter if it's an overused puzzle or if you copied it from MM levels, as long as it works people will be entertained and everyone starts with a few simple or copied puzzles, from there on you are gonna start getting the hang of it and actually venture into creating your own.
3. Make sure that absolutely everything works the way it should and also make sure it's not too frustrating, these 2 tips are important because they are both the difference between the player finishing the level or going back to pod.

And the most important tip of all for level making:
NEVER rush things, take your time and polish the whole level, including visuals and gameplay and when you think you're done don't just say: "there its done" and publish, first, test it, take a close look at the whole level and polish things that are a bit messy and tweak everything to your liking because at the end of it all, it's still YOUR level.
anyway hope i helped

Now Awesomemans'!
Waffle World Prologue by Awesomemans

VISUALS
Look quite nice and it's very easy on the eyes and the waffles make me smile but maybe too much flowers

GAMEPLAY
I like it, i'm not gonna complaing about it being too short because i know it's a prologue
i liked the few plataforming you got in there, it's simple and it's fun and i think there was a puzzle but i dont remember...

well i don't have much to say given the short lenght of the level so i'm just gonna say i liked it,it was fun was easy on the eyes and as you already know, the only problem is how short it is.
Good job Awesomemans! looking foward to the next one.

Whew there you have it, in the longest post i've ever made in LBPC
ok so flamingemu and nightwing, you guys are next! :kz:

ok here are the reviews

Sackmare on elm street by sackfredkruger

VISUALS
i liked it, the "scary" cutscenes were nice and all around the visuals were decent, i specially liked the house, freddy and the boiler room

GAMEPLAY
it's a tad short but it's still fun, the chase part was a nice touch and i like the plataforming across the level
The tub scene was akward and there's this part between the scoreboard and the last checkpoint, where you need another checkpoint, i had to restart there because i had to go through the falling fireballs, the smoke, the swinging and the falling grabing balls all at once.
still it was entertaining and worth the time.

Time Changes 2 by flamingemu

VISUALS
it all looked nice and everything, some shapes were kinda edgy, like you tried to even them off with a shape instead of the corner editor and heaven looked nice, i liked your heaven

GAMEPLAY
i like that the mechanic works nicely on all parts of the level because you turned the whole level into like plataforming puzzles, which are cool.
only complaint, some parts of the story were really confusing, it's like "huh?" and "w-what?"
other than that this is a good level.

there, again sorry i took so long, i'm still doing reviews so keep bringing them

ok here's the review for UltimateClay's "The act of giving"

VISUALS
ok i think you couldve used a better font for the logo and not the stickers you get in the game, i actually saw you used some cool font to write: "UltimateClay presents" so i dont know why you didnt used it for the actual logo
as far as the actual level, the visuals were ok but nothing too memorable, i thought the carboard cutouts were great.
one thing that i didnt liked was that you stickered something on all the buildings and actually made them look worse, i went through the town taking the stickers off to make the level look better, if you thought the town didnt looked good enough you couldve used a wider variety of materials one thing i liked about the buildings were the doors but i didnt liked the windows, they barely looked like windows
on a final visuals note, i liked the car, it was nicely detailed

GAMEPLAY
So you probably already know this but the level is too short, i mean you just use the carm, some plataforming(couldve used a LOT more of) to get the burger and from there on it's just dragging things and walk back to the house
couldve used alot more plataforming and some puzzles in order to get to all the needed items, like idk, maybe the teddy bear is stuck on a window and you have to jump on some platforms to get it or maybe throw something at it so it falls down,
that kind of puzzles, not just dragging things around from a cut-out to another because the most basic thing in LBP is jumping, it's a jumping plataformer and still jumping is fun, the day that jumping becomes boring on LBP, the world will end.

ok Clay there's your review
hope you find it helpful
also sorry i took so long, i get a tad lazy on vacations

If you like short and complex, play part 1.
If you like long and even more complex, play part 2.
(The story put in part 1 is really insignificant compared to the story in part two, so they can be judged as independent levels)

"Alice- 'Down the Rabbit Hole'" by PSN: plasmavore

Ok here are some reviews

Retro Retribution by Shebhnt

VISUALS
I like the look of it, it was pretty nice, good use of the stickers and it does give a sorta 8-bit air
the boss couldve looked better
nice visuals and somewhat creative

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay was weird, when i went through the level, right at the beggining of the 8-bit part, there was a fork, you could go up or stay down, i went up and did some simple but nice plataforming and then when i got to the end, i was able to jump on top of the boss but i fell but after i killed the "decent" boss, i started to backtrack and found tons of monsters and that confused me, was i supposed to stay down? or just go up?
It's ok on the gameplay part, it could've used ALOT more plataforming, since it was an 8-bit plataformers inspired level

Anyway this level's ok
it's not boring but it's not that fun
good job Shebhnt, i just hope the next one has more plataforming

Red Eagle series by Arradi

VISUALS
The visuals were quite nice on both levels, the bosses looked cool and the labs where you played were nicely done
Nice visuals

GAMEPLAY
The first one was mostly shooting and it was fun, the turrets you created were nice and so were the bosses, it was fun
i liked that the second one had more puzzles and everything, it was even more fun thanks to the variety
Fun levels

Great job Arradi
cool levels

I'm going to play the rest of the levels soon

Yes, it was short on the gameplay because I was trying to squeeze in the story. If you ever try it again, when you get to the first rock jump on it to go to the underground section. There is more platforming to be held down there.2010-04-18 08:46:00

Ahem Ahem... The reviews!

Area 13 beta by Milkshake(Neep)

GAMEPLAY
It's hard to protect the sandbags because the aliens move and spawn too fast to be able to get in front of the sandbags and keep the 3 layers at bay
maybe if the aliens were slower and the sandbags had like hitpoints like a zombie hits it, he dies and the sand bag loses 1 hitpoint, i like the idea of a base defending level like the games you can find on the internet

Alice: Down the Rabbit hole by Plasmavore
VISUALS
The visuals were nice, the intro was nice, EVERYTHING was nice, the only thing that was kinda weird was Alice, i didnt liked how her hair looked, maybe if it was a thick layer instead of a thin one.

GAMEPLAY
The Intro was entertaining... uh... yeah, that's about it

Entertaining, short, good looking level
good job Plasmavore

Ok here's the reviews

A piraty quest (Part 1 the town) by milkshakes42

VISUALS
The visuals were decent, nice lightning and overall nice use of stickers on the houses
the people you made were ok
good visuals

GAMEPLAY
the underwater parts were nice and fun, the plataforming was nice, the puzzles added were nice and a good use of the water mechanic
i also liked that you added a quest to find silver coins
but it's a little hard because it's hard to see the coins, i missed one so i backtracked to the beggining and i didnt find it
maybe if you could add a light to them to make them more visible
good, fun but a tad short level
good work Neep

Color Gardens by Shhabbazz

VISUALS
The dreamy feel of the whole level was very cool and the shapes and lightning used were nice
the character you made that talks to you from some (good-looking)clouds and then puts his face up to the screen, looks
really nice
great visuals, very easy on the eyes

GAMEPLAY
A couple of ok puzzles but where it really shines is on the plataforming
and hazardous things
i have only one complaint: in the part that you get eaten, i didnt know if i was supposed to keep dragging the flashlight or just leave it there so i actually took it with me when going through the mouth and when the mouth started closing, it made me fall all the way down to the level floor where i strangely found a prize bubble, i uploaded a pic, hope you get to see it
anyway great level Shhabbazz

WaffleWorld 2: Syrup City by Awesomemans

VISUALS
the visuals were really nice with very good material combinations and a fitting background
the Waffle people are funny and they actually remind me of spongebob
the fork enemies were nicely done and fit in with the rest of your characters
nice visuals

GAMEPLAY
I like the fact that there's way more plataforming that in the first one
i can't remember if there were any puzzles... but the plataforming and killing enemies was fun enough to make up for it
i like the basic plataforming on this level and the enemies were fun to kill
Great, fun level but could've been a little longer
Great job Awesomemans

Ok there's that
i'll try to play your level today or tomorrow theonlybub

Ok here's Theonlybub's level

Minigame Land by theonlybub

VISUALS
Ok it all looked pretty nice, you got some nice stickers all around the level with a shadowy effect, the fonts are pretty cool and the basketball minigame looks pretty good
Nice visuals dude

GAMEPLAY
All the minigames were nice, the rings one was original and i liked the one with the brains
Problems i found: On the brains challenge, i got to the Hard part, i jumped on the last brain and fell but by the time the next one became visible it was already too late, maybe a camera there that allows you to see where you're supposed to fall would work
on the Multiplier sign there's no camera so i had to take 2 pic to actually read "Multiplier"
That is pretty much it
Nice level with fun minigames
Good work Theonlybub

Ok any more reviews?

I will be sure to fix these problems. THank you for pointing them out. ;D
I will have them fixed by the end of today.
BTW With the Brain Jump (Hard) I made it so that it would be that way. I will fix that though, so that some peoples don't get too angry.

Sorry for the delay
i'll start with DjKrimz' levels

Dont Push That Red Button by DJKrimz

VISUALS
Everything cool
and the letters on the slides work

GAMEPLAY
it's really funny, all the things the slides say and how it gets angrier everytime, make it a really interesting and entertaining experience

even though the level does not give me much to actually review, i'll say this:
It's a cool, interesting, entertaining and creative level
totally worth the time
good job DjKrimz

Rok-Paypa-Scizzars by DjKrimz

VISUALS
ok most of the level was ok
The rock and Scizzars looked good but the paper was a tad simple
i think you couldve used better material combinations but i think you already know this
because the house at the end is a perfect example of that
The house at the end was awesome
Mr.Oogly is ok i guess but is he supposed to talk like that?
Ok visuals but the house at the end proves that you can do way better
Try to write the description and the text bubbles in a more organized way to seem more professional and make it easier to read, it really influences the way the players think about you and the level when the read the description while they wait for the level to load.

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay was ok
couldve used more plataforming, the Rock fight was a bit akward and the scizzars chase was hard
the paper fight was a neat idea, youre using a magnetic key? if so, try to fix the timing so the dangerous pieces get dissolved just before they collide with the floor, maybe put the magnetic switch(connected to the dissolve on which it's upon) at the bottom edge of the hazardous pieces
and put magnetic keys on the floor so they are sure to meet in time(if you actually did this then fix the activation radius)
and that's pretty much it

it is fun and worthwhile, needs more challenges(puzzles, swinging, whatever...)
good job DjKrimz, sorry i took so long

ok i'll play Rad's (horrible)level tomorrow

Ok here's Mr.Rad's

Dark Side Of The Rainbow by Mr.Radical 5601

VISUALS
Visuals were weird and looked dirty but i guess that's what you were aiming for with the explosion stickers
all the color combinations were nice but the explosion stickers didnt allowed to appreciate them fully
the boss is very colorful but obviously, pretty simple
the visuals are ok but they're not my cup of tea

GAMEPLAY
Ok i instantly thought Survivor 1 when i played it
some of the challenges there are from tower, i think.
It has TONS of puzzles and challenges, some are original but some are tedious like jumping outta water to shoot twice before doing it again
having tons of challenging puzzles is not bad but you have to balance it, put some normal, fairly easy plataforming in between so the player have a chance to cool off from the previous challenge/puzzle because if you put them all together, they'll get overwhelmed by the tediousness of some puzzles and they will leave the level.
I mean, not every single thing from your level has to be a puzzle or something like that, put in some normal plataforming or swinging to balance it with the rest of the puzzles
anyway boss was ok but a bit tedious because of the whole jumping in and out of water every 2 secs, it takes way longer than it should.
Cool level with original things but you gotta have enough patience for it
Good job Rad

ok i'll be checking tomeh's level

Welcome Back! I hope your RW life is going well. I know how much of a hassle the real world can be!

Well, untill some "real" levels show up on your docket, how about giving COPYABLE: Gradient Work Shop 2.2 (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=14333) a look see? it's a collection of tools used for making stickers. I've been expanding on it for a while, now (with lots of help from the LBPC community). It's never had an official review, though.

Ok here's the review

Gradient Workshop 2.2 by swanbrown

I liked it alot, it was very useful and very easy to use!
I made myself some awesome stickers and i'm definatly coming back for more
i couldn't fully understand what the icon smusher was about but i didnt care because the main gradient maker works well
...uh... i guess that's all... can't really make it longer without repeating myself

Great job! Thanks for sharing

Ok i'm waiting for reviews!

Here's Salacious Crumbcake's review

Uncle Spooky's Mad Manor by SpeedyMcKnuckles

VISUALS
I liked the visuals in this level, nice lightning and good materials combinations
It had cool details like the floating bottles, the cheese monster, the big pot and Uncle Spooky
Good use of sound effects
Overall it has very nice visuals, not too dark but not too much light, it just works

GAMEPLAY
I really liked the gameplay, the level never gets boring, you're always jumping and avoiding things.
I especially liked the plattaforms in the room with the floating bottles and lamps.
The level is just the right lenght, it doesnt feel long or short, it's perfect
All the challenges had the perfect difficulty and they werent tedious at all
Overall it's a pretty fun and entertaining level
Good job, Salacious

I'll play your level soon, Donal222

Here it is, Donal222

Warhammer 40000: Space Marine by Donal222

VISUALS
Nice visuals, good material use, great sticker use on the orks(?) and the machines
The robot(Dreadnought, i think...) looked great and so did the orks(small and big)
You did a good job on the wrecked ships, they looked awesome
Cool visuals, good job Donal222

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is entertaining but could've used a bit more challenges
The level is a bit short
Both the Vehicle parts are fun but the second couldve been a bit faster
I liked the simple but functional elevators and the giant hose(?) that tries to crush you
The level is entertaining but could've used a bit more plattaforming, still cool though

Overall It's a fun and good looking level, although a bit short
Good work, Donal222

And i'll play your level soon sibtiger55

yayyyy!!!! Ur awesome Racroz!

Uhhh... Ok... Thanks
sorry i took a while, my internet was kinda weird yesterday and i just got a chance to play your level today

From Little to Big: The House by Sibtiger55

VISUALS
Really nice visuals with cute creatures
Good material and sticker use
It has tons of details that make it good
Only problem, could've used camera angles that allowed you to see the parts easier because almost all the level, the floor took half the screen and i wanted to see up, not the floor.
Nice visuals, only needs better camera angles

GAMEPLAY
Most of it is normal, fun plattaforming
The enemies aren't hard at all, i touched them and nothing happened
Couldve used more puzzles
There's a very difficult jump on the couch where it says Sibtiger55, right before the end
Overall It's a fun, little level that looks good
Good job, sibtiger

My PSN is SpiffyMcCracken. I'm making a storyline called: "No Laughing Matter". The first third of the first level, titled: "The Genova Incident", has been completed. Last checked it had only been played by 8 people, but it had a rating of 5 stars. If I get enough play troughs to warrant my finishing of the story, I will. I probably won't change this first level at all, but any criticism you give will be taken heed for the future levels.

It is short; my thermometer over heated and I was forced to split the level in thirds to compensate for the complexity.
There is more than one path though, so that should help in lengthen the playtime.

Again: any criticism will be helpful!
