If you could'nt share your levels would you still create?

Archive: 19 posts

The recent problem some of us had with PSN got me thinking. Just what I said in the title. For me, I don't think this game would've grabbed a hold of me so tightly. When I first started out I was so impressed with all that you could do with the create. I just went nonstop. Then it seemed like the reason I kept going was to see what kind of a reaction I'd get from the people playing my stuff. Then I found lbpc, and got a level spotlighted. That drove me even more. I guess what I'm saying is I probably would'nt still be creating if I couldn't share my stuff. What about you?2010-03-03 22:37:00

I probably would have stopped creating long ago if I couldn't share them. After spending a hundred hours on a level it's not much fun playing through it. I get my kicks by showing stuff off 2010-03-03 22:58:00

Well they would have to change the slogan to "Play, Create". Of course, once you finish the story mode, and even if you create the best level ever, there just gets to a point where you can't go any farther. I think if that was the case, this game would have died off a long time ago.2010-03-03 23:05:00

I would feel less motivated, and probably would not create as much. I enjoy projects, and showing them off XD

also, I have learnt lots of skills in creating from playing levels online.....

I simply wouldn't do it.... the truth is, I'm not very artistic - I'm probably 90% technical. So, creating a level is not an artistic outlet for me - it's like a second job that's REALLY close to my real job. If nobody played it, there would be no point to building it. That being said, I don't need tens of thousands of plays to feel satisfied - just knowing some people had fun is enough.2010-03-03 23:49:00

If I couldn't share my levels with the world, I probably would have still made Centralia and Crystal Cave In Autumn. The rest, though? Probably not.2010-03-04 00:26:00

Actually I interpreted the meaning of the word "share" inside the phrase "If you couldn't share your levels would you still create?" as not being able doing these stuff ingame: Allowing other people to copy your levels, and giving our objects and stickers as prize bubbles.

Following my interpretation we could assume that the number of "thefts" in LBP would be drastically lower, as the idiots wouldn't steal our stuff (Unless they manage to hack the system). I could create in this case, though I know I wouldn't be able to share my stuff with trustable people.

Following the interpretations above this post of mine , I think I couldn't go on creating, as I would receive less feedback and constructive criticism, essential to improving one's skills, since the "share"options would be scarce, limiting me to showing the levels only to local peeople for instance.

Of course I wouldn't create if I couldn't share my levels.

How am I supposed to convince anyone of my insanity if I can't show them my crazy, universe-imploding inventions?

In fact, if it wasn't for having LBP PSP to turn to during the ApocalyPS3, I might have attempted to divide by zero already and destroyed the universe... or made some strawberry pie.

I think I still would! But not complete levels with gameplay....

As I'm more into visuals, I would just create little bits of scenery, characters and stuff like that, just for the fun of it!

Always a tough choice that one....

Once TI-LBP: Little Big Calculator #2 is made, dividing by zero causes every level to be copyable, all saved objects to become corrupted, and the create trophy's heart requirements to be raised ten fold!2010-03-04 03:02:00

I've only shared one level, then deleted it, and I pre-ordered LBP, so i've been playing since day 1. Honestly I create because I like to create sure I still want to publish a level and get feedback, see people's reaction etc but I couldn't have that I'd still create for myself because I find that the most fun you have in LBP is letting your mind run free and building the most outlandish, technical, artistic or emotional thing you can. So yeah I would still create.2010-03-04 11:44:00

There'd still be a way of "Sharing" using youtube and what not.

But no, I probably wouldn't even of started.

Share or no share, its still a big box o tinker toys and duct tape. Yes, i'd still be piddling. plus if you look at what i have shared, its more just me showing an idea and hoping someone more skilled than i could flesh it out anyways.....2010-03-05 15:01:00

I am certain I would, but without seeing others work as well as getting feedback on mine, I am not sure where I would be as far as my creations go, nor how complete or polished they would be. I might be that I would just have some fun rides or something, possibly more like mini levels, mini games, and wacky objects to amuse myself.2010-03-05 15:05:00

No.

I would have messed around, decided that I was terrible at level making, and would have stopped.

I would probably make a level filled with nothing but rocket cars, and that's it.2010-03-07 15:46:00
