Impact switch, sound suggestions and popit RGB sliders

Archive: 7 posts

I was doing some trickery once to create an impact detection system, but I wanted it to work everywhere in my level. That's why I though of this:

An Impact switch.

It'd have these tweakable options:
On/off: behaves like regular on/off for x amount of time
Direction: behaves like regular direction for x amount of time
One-shot: behaves like an on/off but without the time delay
Speed: the velocity changes the strength of the output for x amount of time.
Time: this setting changes how long the specified output equals to 'on'.
For On/off, Direction and Oneshot:
Velocity: when the object's velocity is bigger than this number (amount of small grid units per second), the output is 1.
With speed it would be how much of the velocity is needed to be given a full output.

Extra sound suggestions:
A speed modifier and a pitch modifier. Say, you want to have a very quick sound but don't want to change it's pitch, you could use the speed modifier to make the sound have a shorter duration. Or vice-versa. The pitch modifier's weight on the sound's speed would not be as strong as the actual speed modifier, it would only have an influence of say... 0.3.
A volume modifier. I don't see why this shouldn't be in. The range would be from 0 to 5.
Special effects: Flanger, echo, wahwah, reverb and some more. These would add more strength or fun to a sound.
Little Big Planet's dialog sounds as a sound object. I can see several uses for those. And let's not forget about the tutorial music!
A 'null' sound. For example, you have a block of wood falling down a bucket of dissolve, but you don't want the impact sound. Placing this sound on the wood and setting the output to 'impact' would get rid of the impact sound.

(in)Visibility changer.
This tool would change an object's translucency. You could have it entirely invisible, or either translucent or just fully visible. With this tool, you wouldn't have to use those hacky invisiblity tricks anymore!

Entirely customizable popit colors
Sliders for setting up your own popit color. Not only that of the Popit's background, but also all other elements.

I am sure these things are possible. I have quite some experience as a coder myself, and have also worked with Fmod so I know what the sound engine's capable of.

I'm not really a 'maestro', but I could see several uses for those myself.

paintball colors are based on your popit color, paintball splats are stickers... they would have to do quite a lot new stickers. But aside from that, they should absolutely implement these in the game.2010-03-06 16:10:00

Nope

From what I know, the paintball splat stickers are always white, but the engine recolors them to the owner's popit color.
