LBPC Mafia - Round III (Voting for host of round IIII)

OK by now most of you should know the rules but here they are anyway:


To play, you need to sign up. To sign up, just comment here saying you want to play. After I get a decent amount of players, I will PM every one of you your special roles. You are NOT allowed to tell anyone your role . It's a secret between you and me. After I assign everyone their roles, I will then announce the start of the game.

There are two factions; the Mafia and Civilians. The game proceeds in turns.

Each night, while the civilians sleep, the dreaded Mafia privately decides on which civilian to assassinate. They will do this through PM's. When they decide, they will PM me.

Each day, the terrified mob of civilians accuse people of being in the Mafia and execute someone. Everyone- including the Mafia, will have to vote on who to execute each day. The person with the most votes, dies. Civilians may NOT PM each other or anyone in the game. All discussion about the game should remain in this thread only.

If the civilians manage to kill off all of the Mafia members, they win the game. But, if the Mafia outnumbers the civilians, they lose and the Mafia wins.

The game is largely about denouncing people as Mafia members, and eloquently proclaiming your innocence. There's no real way to know who's in the Mafia and who isn't. "Look at those shifty eyes! She's obviously in the Mafia!" and "I've never trusted that guy," are both perfectly valid reasons to accuse someone. The sheer injustice of it all is part of the fun.

ROLES:

Mafia Faction
Mafioso- Is a member of the Mafia. Every night, all the members of the Mafia will come together and PM each other to decide which Civilian to kill.

Civilian Faction
Sheriff- Has the ability to detect the role of any player. Every night, the Sheriff will PM me about a particular player's role and I will tell them. However, since no one can reveal their roles, the Sheriff will have to convince everyone else of what they know through trust.
Cop- Same as the Sheriff, but instead of knowing particular roles, they will only have the ability to know whether a player is a Mafioso or a civilian.
Serial Killer- A very powerful role. The Serial Killer may kill anyone during the night, but can only do this twice in the whole game. But, he/she can't kill two people in one night.
Doctor- Can protect one player from any night attacks. They will PM me each night of the player of their choice.
Extra Roles- There are some roles I will not put on this list. You'll have to find out during game play .
Civilians- All remaining players will be regular civilians with no additional abilities. They will vote each day, but that's about it.

I want at least 20 or so players. 1/4 of them will be the Mafia, and the rest will be civilians.

TURNS
The game is supposed to start at night, but I want all platers to at least have one chance to play, so we'll start during the day. (Keep in mind, Day and Night have nothing to do with day and night in real life. It's just the name of a turn.) During the day, all players will vote on who to kill; even the Mafia members. After all the votes come in, I will provide a short narrative of the death, and then night starts.

During the night, no one is permitted to post about anything game-related. All game-related discussion should take place during the day. After I receive all of the PM's from the Mafia and the special civilian roles, I will provide another short narrative of what took place at night, and then the day starts once again. As I said earlier, this keeps going until all of the Mafia are dead, or when the Mafia outnumber the Civilians.

Reminders- Please do not reveal your role to anyone else, or discuss the game anywhere else. I want to avoid cheating. The Mafia may PM other Mafia members whenever they wish, but Civilians cannot. Also, remember: No game-related posts during a night time turn.

Lol that was me failing and at a joke

Anyway I made this thread before going to bed last night so I was tired and didn't have much time so I didn't get to spend much time explaining stuff. The alive and dead part is so you can easily see who is alive and who is dead so you don't end up voting for the dead.... which would be silly because we all know zombies can't be killed again

Sorry I can't start yet. To be honest i'm struggling for ideas of new roles and to make matters worse while making a list of all players and roles and stuff my computer turned off because of a loose wire well I have to start that all over... so if anyone can think of a cool role idea that they don't mind sharing with me then go ahead and PM me, DON'T POST IN THIS THREAD!!! Anyway i'm going to start my list again.

Anyway to make this more realistic i've used a slightly crappy newspaper generator . It puts huge spaces for some reason

you must have missed something lol. Cybersora successfully decieved everyone last game, and was the main reason the mafia won last round. However, i'm not sure i want to bandwagon him, just because he was mafia last round doesn't mean he's mafia this round =/ Though he did put on rather a teriffic show.2010-03-04 20:17:00

good point Okay, so you think cybers the mafia bc he was so sneaky last game... do you have any evidence from this game? It seems kind of unfair to kill him for stuff he did in the first game. Even if he turns out to be mafia again Though, i'm not sure how much i'll trust him, i'll let him defend his own case.

Okay, I'm back. Man, I can't help but laugh at the fact that you guys suspected me first because of my awesome mastermind skills. Seriously, I knew that was going to happen, so once again I'm right!

So ya, now that I'm a Civilian, let's get the facts away from fiction. First off, let's go back to the other LBPC Mafia Rounds, and check who has been a Mafioso and who wasn't. In other words, those who were a Civilian more than once have a greater chance of being a Mafioso.

Also, Pantyer might have said that "I'm Mafioso" thing, because that could be a distraction. That's what I'll do if I was a Mafioso (well, I would have said it cleaner/smoother), and you all know that I was a very decieving person last round.		2010-03-04 22:14:00

Yes, but this is chances we're taking. The chance of becoming a Mafioso twice is... well, the average rounds had at least 12 players, so:

3/12 x 3/12 = 9/144 = 1/16

So, becoming a Civilain again for the third time will be:

9/12 x 9/12 x 9/12 = 729/1728 = 1/2.37

So, it's going to be a lucky shot for random.org to pick me as a Mafioso again. As for Civilains, becoming a Civilain for the third time is close to 50/50. So, three rounds have been started. 50% of 3 is 1.50, close to 2 as a whole number. So ya, that last remaining number is 1 (after 3 minus 2). So, this one round will be the person's (the person with a record of two Civilain roles for the last two rounds) Mafia round. So that's why I said we need to check the last two rounds, to prove my theory.

Besides, this is practically the only lead I got (besides Pantyer admitting to being a Mafioso, but my possibilities theory might debunk that suspiscion).		2010-03-04 23:07:00

@cyber, you do have a bit of a point with those statistics... however the ones you give are a bit misleading. Yes, the chance of you being mafia again is slim... but really, its slim for all of us. Its a 75% chance of being a civillian each round (based on your 3 mafia, 9 civillian formula), and when you write out the probabilities, members have a 40-something% chance of being a civillian all three. I'm not even sure that you can do the probabilities like that, but its been several years since i took a stats class. Comphy might know, but i cbb lol.

Well, my possibilities theory about being a Civilian three times in a row (9/12 x 9/12 x 9/12 = 729/1728), is the only lead I got. So seeing Outlaw as a Civilian again is kind of slim. Of course,there's Rajah, but then again...

The amount of rep you lose depends on the rep of the person who negative repped you. In this case, the person had quite a few points... yea. thats all i'm saying.

Well, my possibilities theory about being a Civilian three times in a row (9/12 x 9/12 x 9/12 = 729/1728), is the only lead I got. So seeing Outlaw as a Civilian again is kind of slim. Of course,there's Rajah, but then again...

Again that theory makes no sense. I used random.org to decide the roles, previous games make no difference.

And i've already told CC about this and he said

"Well, rep is too opinion-based for me to define what "no reason" actually is, but I can promise you that whoever left that negative rep did so with the opinion that they somehow deserved it. I'm not taking sides, but this doesn't look like rep abuse, and due to that, I can't get involved."

@ outlaw, yea cyber saved him quite a few times by deflecting suspicion elsewhere.

But the case he presents does make quite a bit of sense... =/ I'm still not sure that Outlaw is mafia, Rajah however seems suspicious enough. We'll see what happens, maybe Jazve's right and we'll have two mafiosos on our hands.

Well, no, that is not really how statstics work, lol. It all depends on how many rounds were are considering. From what I gather, you guys are more concerned about someone becoming a mafioso twice in a row. For that it's easier to take chance out of someone becoming mafioso the first time. Let's say person X is a mafioso in round 1. They have a 3/12 = 1/4 chance of becoming mafioso again in the next round, and for every round after that.

If you are concerned about what can happen over 3, 4, 5, and so on rounds, the odds only increase for someone becoming a mafioso a second time (which makes sense).

My advice would be for whoever is in charge to run the randomizer until it 'elects' three new mafiosos. Then, repeat this for the subesequent rounds. When everyone has been a mafioso, start the whole process over again. I know, it's not random, but it's pseudo-random, and is more fair.		2010-03-07 22:28:00

No. That just means Outlaw genuinely feels that I'm not a mafioso. Accusing your accuser just because he accused you isn't an act based on facts, but revenge. Plus, there have been other members here who have been a civilian twice in a row. Why accuse me with such weak evidence? I can confirm right now that I have no connection with Outlaw.

Which is why I suspected Outlaw to be a mafioso. He has already been a civilian twice, while I've been a civilian once (not including this round)

Hah! You guys are seriously band-wagonning me? I killed The Don last round (and KernelM... because he pestered me over the PSN, which made me suspicious towards him). And so what if it's highly unlikely that I'm a civillian? Remember, it's like a 1/4 chance I MAY be a mafiaso. Just because I've been a civillian for the last 2 rounds doesn't mean third times the charm.

Actually there are some roles related to dead people:



Post-mortem roles—"Dark Background", "Priest", "Medium", "Forensic Expert", "M.E.", etc.
The "dark background" roles are standard (mafia or innocent) except for revealing a deceptive alignment when killed. The "M.E." gathers information from the killings that can help the innocents,[42] while the "Priest" learns about the alignment of the dead in the same way that the Detective learns about the living.[43] The Medium can interrogate dead players.[44]

Reanimation roles—"Reviver", "Master Reviver", "Governor", "Martyr", "Witch", "Mr. Mac", etc.
Revivers & "Master Revivers" are able to resurrect dead players, Master Revivers can bring the revived into their association (e.g., the Masons: see Association roles). The players resurrected by a Necromancers are converted to the Necromancer's alignment. The "Governor" can reprieve those killed during the daytime,[45] as can the "Martyr"-role if he sacrifices himself.[46] The Witch has a (single-use) revival potion.
