Open-ended exploration levels

Archive: 17 posts

This is the level genre in LBP I love the most. Needless to say, there are only pretty few of them as they are pretty hard to make. So, let's gather a list of these levels here so if anybody wants to play these here will be an easy place to find them.

Levels (list will be updated every now and then):
Red Eagle 2: B2 Bermuda by haredriel (own level, hehe)
Frozen in time: parts 1,2 and 3 by narF72
Mysterious planet 1&2 by Camden1
Attack of the flower fiends by oldboyhammer
Fantasy chronicles by ALPHA-OMEGA81
No Peg's Island by shris
Sacks in the city & Sacks in the beach by rangerzero

Personally I think all the above levels are good and fit in the open-ended genre, but ultimately that's up to you to decide

I know, it's pretty small but you can help by posting more levels

I love these sort of levels too.
My favourite so far has to be "No Peg's Island" - it's a must play.

I'm a huge fan of the Discworld series and look forward to checking out this level tonight. I'm hoping I can buy a Sausage Inna Bun from Cut Me Own Throat Dibbler.

No Peg's Island was by Shris. Rangerzero has a couple, Sack In The City, and one based on an island (I forget the name).2010-03-03 17:07:00

Tye Dye by Jaeyden?

This isn't really my area, really not a fan of these levels but I think I've seen people mention that as one

Sacks in the City and Sacks on the Beach are Rangerzeros two open ended levels. Quite a lot of fun, and certainly a different take on things than the usual semi linear path.

Wow, thank you. I'll get to playing all these levels and adding them to the list, many of those I've never heard of or simply just forgot when I made this thread 2010-03-05 06:00:00

I don't think they're necessarily harder to make than those with a linear structure, I think they're just less popular with the masses, so fewer creators bother to make them.

You can add both of shindol (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/member.php?4414-shindol)'s published levels (of the point-and-click genre) to the list: Whispers in the Darkness (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17431-Whispers-in-the-Darkness-*Spotlighted*) and The Proteus Prophecy: Part One (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=22248-The-Proteus-Prophecy-Part-One).

Out of curiousity, how to most of these levels end? With the same scoreboard or not?2010-03-13 04:07:00

thanks for the plug =)

midnight, at least for mine (Frozen in Time levels) there is one scoreboard in pt 1, two scoreboards in pt 2, and two scoreboards in pt 3.

Aya, I do think they can be slightly harder to create, mainly because the "where can the player go" logic results in many different possible game states. For some levels it's not too hard to make them open-ended, but for many of them, the behind-the-scenes logic can be massive

I'd also add Meltdown: The Nuclear Incident (it's on my hearted list if the name is slightly off) to this list. Another open-ended level with some unique challenges and some great adventuring gameplay.

Woo-hoo! Thanks for remembering me :-) I was going to say something, but then again, I wasn't even sure if mentioning my own levels was very appropriate. I haven't made a PS3 level for about 6 months now, but if you like this style of level, then I think you will like my LBL series (especially #3 and #4).

Thanks milton!

Well because of my almost 8-month LBP break last year I know very little of levels made in march 09-Nov 09. I actually forgot about this thread for a while too...:blush:2010-04-01 11:29:00
