Nobody Turn on the PS3's on March the First THIS IS NOT A JOKE COULD LOOSE TROPHIES!!

Archive: 12 posts

Ok so after browsing the internet and my dad giving me some info, if you turn on your ps3's today it will corrupt your hardrives and possibly corrupt your trophies as well. I strongly advise everyone to wait until March the second till you go on the playstation again.

"SCEA is looking into widespread reports tonight of PlayStation Network login errors causing many left unable to play games, and even lose trophies, on certain PlayStation 3 consoles."

The reason this is happening is because the system clock on old models is trying to switch to leap year 02/29/2010. This than corrupts files on the HDD when the OS switches to 12/31/1999 on default as the OS does not have 02/29/2010 as a viable date to switch to. The only way to get past this is to wait until March 2nd before you turn your PS3 back on or switch the date manually past 02/29/2010.

If you do keep your machine off March 1st, the only thing you will have to do is reset your clock from March 1st to March 2nd when the 2nd comes around.

I must reiterate that it is very important that you keep your fat PS3s off the entire day on March 1st, especially if you ran out of time switching the date of the system clock to March 1st on Feb 28th.

Duplicate thread, please lock.

Just FYI, your assertions are a bit inaccurate. Hard drive corruption I haven't heard of, but data corruption in the form of loss of trophy information has been documented in SOME cases. I turned my PS3 on last night before I knew about this, my data seems fine.

It should be added that the PS3 system clock works off GMT... so it might be safe to do so after midnight GMT (which is about 7pm today for me).

Furthermore, this issue is strictly related to fat PS3s it seems. It should be safe to use your PS3 slim.

It's not THAT serious. Turning on your PS3 should NOT CORRUPT anything such as your hard drive. Just refrain from "fiddling around" with options and any game or saved data and trophy data. It's an actual possibility that many users will not get their trophies if they did not SYNC it with their PSN Account before the crash. A shame, honestly...2010-03-01 22:41:00

Doesn't affect the slim. Either way it's been fixed now so I'll lock this thread.
