JellyWeasel's Junk (Ducks, Gradius, Floating Statues, Submarines, and... Plumbing?)

Archive: 1 post

Why do I not have a specific proper title? Because that's usually what happens when you have one level or one series in mind.
I'm making.... five?
Not sure if this multitasking is a good idea. Put that in your criticism if you want.
Each level is completely unrelated, and not one is even close to being done.

Duck Off! (and a likely sequel: Shut the Duck Up!)
My first level that I started working on was a demented little project with ducks. I recently deleted it, but I thought it would be cool with the water effects to make something with ducks you can pilot. I want to make some amphibious, even though that particular LBPC contest will be over... now?
The level will utilize these ducks for versus play. The ducks I have so far are a rubber duck and a wooden decoy duck. They work well, but will likely be unable to go on land. As it is, they are accurate to their original forms despite shooting lasers out of their anuses and such.
I can't figure out how you make teleporter logic work to transport multiple people to different places, but I've solved the problem by having the player sealed inside once they step in.
Another problem I'm having is trying to figure out what kind of scenery to put in. Perhaps something ducky. Or perhaps something completely different? I also don't know if the ducks are too big to be practical. If anyone wants to try them out, I'll release a beta (in a week or so).
The sequel will definitely feature co-op play, shooting down swarms of other ducks. I like ducks.

LittleBiGradius
An idea I had while making the aerial enemies in battle on Mars. Once I have the mechanics for the ship done, all speedbumps will be overcome, except for my never playing a Gradius game in my life.
The ship moves on a car-thing up on a wooden track in the sky, with the ship attached to a ball and piston that allow for moving up/down, left/right (still a bit iffy) while moving in the same general direction. With that system, depending on the thermo, I will be able to make music that is actually from Gradius appear in the level.

Quest for the Black Earth
Something that came to me for no reason. It will be a platformer/adventure similar to the levels in the story. It features an active day-night system that changes certain things (music/lighting/enemies/stuff). A problem with it is that it uses magnetic switches, and the game doesn't allow more than one switch to activate a single thing. So although I want lights to turn on and off, there is no logic currently that allows for it. (the day progresses with three intervals of day and three of night)
It is set to have an earthy and natural feel, with mechanical steam punk-like enemies (in direct contrast to Battle on Mars). The level also features automated statues. One of which you control, others that are enemies (considereing making the enemies high-jack-able). They float from left to right and pound the ground with levitating fists. It's pretty cool.

Get a Job!
Inspired after releasing my second level. Battle on Mars is sort of complex, in a way that I had to take special care for the level not to have errors involving things not blowing up too early, etc. Dragons' Domain was similar. I wanted to make something funny, not too complicated, and light-hearted (likely ending with suicide). Kind of like the Robot Chicken levels in Spore: Galactic Adventures. Seems easy.
I decided it would be cool to make it have a story with several jobs that take place in a small urban sprawl. It takes place over the course of several non-real time days (using multiple pinwheel logics). Unfortunately, that last part is making it complicated. Balls. Hopefully it will surface one day.

Submediterranean Caverns
The second level that I actually started (with intent to publish), but was interrupted when I started Battle on Mars. I abandoned it at a certain point when I couldn't get the submarine to work well. But now that water has been released, I'm looking at making a submarine that actually works in water. I don't know if this is possible.
The caverns will feature water-based puzzles, and mermen (like in Castlevania) that I already created.
I don't know if this one will ever happen. Now that there's actual water, there's an overdose of water levels.
