what is your favorite MMO?

Archive: 23 posts

i like a couple MMOs and wondered what other lbpcers liked...

what i like:
pirates of the carribean online
toontown
club penguin...sometimes because its free

yah...about all the disney stuff...they make GREAT MMOs!

(toontown has more varied gameglay...but not-so-great graphics...pirates has pvp death matchs and ship...as well as superb graphics for an MMO...toontown also has homes and cool bosses...well more actually!but pirates is half as old so it will grow.)

Best one as far as i'm concerned is WoW by miles

I never thought the pvp was too good though, but that doesn't really apply to me so it's all okie.

Guild Wars. Which was more a CORPG, but, you know, same sorta deal.

Can't wait for GW2. That will destroy my social life.

*Sigh* Reminds me of the good old days of Ragnarok Online. Haven't really played a MMO type since then. I might get Monster Hunter Frontier if a western release is announced.2010-03-01 07:20:00

I've never played one. MMOs sound really long, dull and tedious, with too much grinding. I hate grinding. I think MMOs are designed principally for Japanese gamers for whom achieving success through a dedicated work ethic is the most important thing in life. They were never really intended for lazy, hedonistic westerners such as myself.2010-03-01 08:44:00

I don't know exactly what MMO stands for but if it's anything like World of Warcraft or Club Penguin, then I don't play it. I don't see the fun in killing monster after monster to level up for a bit of gold, a spell, and a pair of boots, at least not when games like LBP are around.2010-03-01 09:05:00

I always saw that as a single player game. I played to level 20 without ever interacting with other players because i never felt the need to. In mmo's you usually meet people out while questing but GW doesn't let them out with you

I used to love that game
It was my first mmo besides runescape. I only ever played on a private server (not that i knew what they were back then) where they'd have the exp on like x100. There wasn't a level cap either you'd just keep getting higher and higher. I remember being an archer and shooting like 10 arrows a second!
I was always a bit puzzled about why 90% of the areas were empty, now that i know i really want to try playing on normal servers.

It can be like that, but some mmos like WoW make it annoyingly rewarding.

From the start it's like "Yay i killed a monster" *small sense of reward*
Then after a few of those you get "Yay i completed a quest" *medium sense of reward*
And after a few of those "Yay i levelled up" *large sense of reward*

Then the process repeats itself over and over.
The sense that you've done something 1000 times already is counteracted by the sense of reward for completing harder quests, killing harder enemies and reaching higher levels as the game progresses.
It's a vicious circle basically, escape while you can

I'm fairly certain FFXIV will be my new favorite MMO. The big question will be whether it's so addictive that I quit LBP for it? Yikes, I don't want to think of it.2010-03-01 18:17:00

All i ever played was mmo's, from the age of 16-now, started off with a bad one being runescape for 3years. But hey i made ?2000 out of the game with real money trade todo wth alt of rare items that only go up in vaule so i'm not gona moan about that. played maplestory which was another grind, Ms beta, scan, khaini, ms Eu. i probally played nearly every mmo yo have ever heard of but i will never touch wow. IMO the best mmo's are diablo 2 on battle net online, final fantasy 11(online) pc+ps2 and lastly guild wars which i played for 4years so anything you waan know about that game i know the ins and outs of it, And yes gw is online but you may only see others in town, It would'nt work the way it does if you ran around meeting people out side of towns, trust me. I played PVe on guild wars about 10% of the time, gw is not a grind feast like other mmo's, it only goes up to level 20. But there are titles in pve and pvp for you to go for. I myself was purely pvp, Guild wars pvp is a great tactical team work game. you had gvg(8vs8), AB 12vs12 of 3x 4player teams inwhich you must cap and kill for point working togeaher withn your team of 4 which was an easy going pvp because all the pure pvp freaks like me and my friends on there used to just ripe the **** outa the pve noobies that played it for a title. Then you had TA, team arena which was a 4vs4 area, then random arena which is basicly ta but random teams until you get 10wins in a row you will be in ta. HA is hero acent, 8vs8, i never payed much ha, noobs with "lameway" team builds tend to go there for titles. HB is hear battles, you control 3 npcs and yourself to work as a team for kills and caping points to wins. I think thats it, it's been along time since i've played gw, but yeah that game was the very best mmo i've ever played and don't regreat the 4years i spent on it. But i made long term friends on there and we was always on vent doing pvp in one way or another so that made it so much more fun. Upcoming mmo's to look out for is a feast of greatness, guild wars 2, diablo 3 and final fantasy 14(2nd mmo), only one inwhich is on the ps3 is ff14 and your have to pay a monthly fee for that but it willl be worth it. Though i suggest only marture people get the game for many reasons. Ask me anything about mmo's i'm be happy to help.2010-03-01 18:47:00

You have not payed gw much, can take a day to get to level 20. Make a party and then go out of town to take others with you, events etc happen in the world of gw pve so that it would make it imposible to make it a free world. IMO it's betterthe way it is, you don't have to put up with people messing with you, kill stealers etc etc, anyways alot of guild wars missions that you must do to keep carrying on in the game ( main story line ) pve, you must team up with people, you ave no choice so i'm wondering how far you got with the game lol. There is guild wars/ gw faction / gw nightfall / gw eye of te north. So there are 4 main islands of pve / story lines you cna work through all inwhich need you to team up with others. I'm only chatting so much on this website because the ps3 glitch is stopping me playing any game. So yeah really i'd play the game alittle more then a day before putting it down... but hey this is a forum for lbp^^. Mmo's or well the ones i play are for more marture players.

Sadly, Vandz, those were a lotta walls of text. But they removed HB for the Codex arena, where you go into an arena as whatever class your character is, and you have about 16 skills to choose from, from both your primary and secondary classes.

Dexiro, I agree...I don't think you got to the good part of the game. Factions PvE was the best, if you ask me, since it was the only one with any challenge/really good music/not incredibly long. Alliance Battles were sorta a joke, but there were some really good alliances to fight, if you climbed the ranks.

GW > WoW simply because its pve isn't a grind fest near as much (although you could argue that the Eye of the North expansion pack is), with a really really really well designed pvp system (that, sadly, is always getting nerfed...)

I'd say WoW has the best community and GW has the best PvP
Personally i thought that WoW had the best pve too (dungeons especially) but i understand some people might find the grindy bit boring.
From what i saw of GW it was just as grindy though, maybe Nightfall wasn't exactly the best one.

And Vandz it doesn't matter how far i got in GW, getting to 20 is just the only milestone i remember. I played it for about 2 months and it definatly took me longer than a day to get too 20, not everyone starts off an expert >.< jeez

As slow as it did take me to progress though i had pretty much no interaction with anyone. In other mmos it's nice to feel a sense of community even when you're out doing the most mundane quests. Even when i was struggling they made it all too easy just to pick up a few npcs.

Personally it's the community that keeps me playing mmos so GW isn't a winner for me

You also obviously didn't find the right guild, then. Or utilize the wiki. Once you've found both of those, and found a pretty regular group of people to play with, it's supah fun.

And, really, NF was probably the worst one, till you got to Vabbi/Desolation. It's only good things were the two new classes and heroes. Other than that...meh.

I did actually want to try playing GW again recently

They have some silly new login thing now though where they expect me to remember the email i used, password, the name of a character i created and a security question or something like that. They make you have a second name so there's no way i could remember a character i used, i probably wouldn't even remember the username and password >.<

To compensate i ended up getting hooked on that horrible warcraftian game though D:
(sorry kind of off-topic )

But yeah i never even knew anything about guilds or how to make a group or any of that o_o
Infact i don't think i was ever compelled to even read what was in the chat box

I'm still willing to give it a go though... if it'll ever let me log in again.
I didn't think it was a bad game entirely, just single player
