Why should this work?

Archive: 20 posts

I noticed recently that if people uploaded their pictures to story mode levels, for some reason they get thousands of hearts, and maybe they have never created a level.
What are the people that are giving the hearts thinking?
"I see a picture of hemflowhatatwat on this level. He's automatically awesomez".

Just as an example:
Stephanie-Ravens has 8000 hearts and no levels, all because she spammed photos on story levels.

Why should this work? It's just another reason to hate the majority of the community.
I couldn't find anybody talking about this so sorry if it's been talked about before.

I have no real care for creator hearts, I just thought this was odd.

This actually seems like a good thing. Maybe this would lead to fewer H4H levels being published? One can only hope.

Heart counts are meaningless anyway, this is just one more proof of it.

Woah there! Don't be sad! Have you read the feedback on your quiltland level. I just skimmed the thread after reading this post and people are totally digging your creations. I assume you aren't getting massive plays and hearts but remember that stuff isn't important. You clearly care about your level (based upon the fact that you take criticisms well and are looking to improve) so surely the fact that some people enjoy it is a good thing? The majority of the community have no concept of quality or artistic merit, so don't let hearts and play counts define anything you do - make stuff that you like and take every bit of positive feedback as a plus A nice comment from a fellow creator is worth a thousand hearts from the kiddies who don't know what the hell they are talking about

Hemflow is a good creator, lol. But 8,000 hearts and no levels? I find this just too far-fetched to believe. Maybe he had a level at one time, then the advertisements boosted his hearts, then he deleted it.2010-02-26 01:57:00

The name Stephanie Ravens sounds familiar. I think she released demos for DLC packs that got a lot of attention and probably just deleted them after a while.2010-02-26 02:06:00

It's actually been happening since the game launched with that "2100 glitch."

But yeah, now there's quite a few people that do this,

Rafaella16
Lena
yuikitto
hemflow

...and a few others, pretty pathetic but if author hearts are that important, good for them. Their levels are for the most part pretty much garbage so that says a lot as to why they do this.

Yes, i read that. She also said my Jones and the Demon was rubbish and didn;t deserve MmPick.
I also heard about that trick.
Here is what i was told.. the author hearts represents how many levels they have hearted... so when they heart a level they get an author heart. No idea if this is true. But was told from people that know the names that Endless Echo mentioned. If this is true, thats a bug that needs fixed asap.

That would quite defeat the purpose. People tend to forget (or never understood) that "hearts" = "favorites". It's just the LBP way of naming a "favorite system".
No it would be a freaking pain Internet Explorer would have limited favorites...

Ya, but I wonder if people would continue H4H, or start using hearts for useful things such as good levels. Just a thought.

It isn't true, unless you are talking about the heart glitch in which you can "magically" add hearts to both accounts and levels. And the way the people I mentioned get their hearts is simple, you just constantly upload a picture of yourself onto every single Story level multiple times a day. Then new people to the game will heart you, it's as easy as that.

And for those of you wondering what the "2100" glitch is, as I told Incinerator:

It was patched last year, think around June. Basically, you went on the XMB of your PS3 and changed the date to the year 2100. Stephanie-Ravens and a few others did this, why? Well they uploaded pictures of themselves on every Story level and popular community level, changing the date meant their pictures would be cemented on every level because the server only recognized the most recent uploaded picture. It worked though, throughout all the months they used this glitch it earned them each thousands and thousands of author hearts.

Wow I had no idea people took so much interest in the picture's authors! seems like an odd train of thought... "Woah this person took a pic of story level X... better go heart them!"2010-02-26 06:50:00

thanks rtm! menas a lot.

but what about some of those creations out there that you just stumble across and they turn out to be fantastic but they're like a year old and hardly any plays. i feel sad for them too. they're hard work isn't being appreciated. they deserve the hearts for their hard work, not someone who floods their pictures on story levels to get hearts.

oh well...

I probably sit on both sides of the fence.

My DefMunky666 account earned me a huge fan base. However most of the levels were geared toward the demand of the masses and not really representative of what I really wanted to create. They do however have tens of thousands of plays and a considerable amount of hearts.

On this account I have one level, a little over 700 plays and around 150 hearts. I personally hold this level in high regard as my greatest creation so far and am so content knowing that people appreciate the work I put in that I couldn't care less how many plays it has.

The point I'm trying to make is, don't be too caught up in the amount of plays, hearts or recognition people have. If you create something that you're proud to publish, plays and hearts shouldn't matter.

What I think is that without hearts people won't know if the level is any good. Suppose somebody makes a level which looks excellent. You play it and it sucks. But if the heart system is used correctly than it shows people the caliber of the level. The problem isn't the system but the people who use it. What about only a couple per day. That way an normal person could heart the levels that they played. Or maybe you might have to complete the level to heart it. Nah that won't work because difficult levels that can't be completed wouldn't get recognized. I tend to look at the hearts when looking for levels because the only other thing you have to go on is it's picture and description.2010-06-27 13:06:00
