They came from outer space to take over our world. You have been selected to save the world and defeat this alien scourge! You are not alone though, it is 1947 and scientists have discovered science to help defeat this menace.

well it was cool for a black and white game but could use some work. When you are controlling the robot it is pointless to shoot because nothing dies no matter how much you shoot them. At the end it turns pitch black and you can not see anything at all. When you finish the boss and everything is blowing up I can't see so I can't find where to go and just end up with an endless death sliding into gas.2010-02-25 22:50:00

The robot shooting section is fixed, I have no idea why that did not work. You can grab onto the stars and swing to the left, might need a speech bubble to explain that. Thanks for the feedback.2010-02-25 23:11:00

Loved it. The level has a few small design-issues, but nothing game-breaking.
e.g. The part where you had to take a small key through 3 wheels. The key kept breaking 'cause it would naturally fall into an upright position.

The graphics are great. I love the classsical theme of the level and I think you've managed to pull it off quite nicely.
The level is detailed, but the awesome black & white is also a negative, as it deprives players from a great deal of visual feedback.
The robot-brain was cool. Totally digging the floating bubbles.

The gameplay is inspiring. Varied and fun to play.
The logic work is stable, so I haven't encountered any bugs, which is another plus in my book.
Would've liked to see more puzzles instead of simple key-switches, but I honestly have no clue as to what kind of puzzle would fit within a level build with this theme in mind.

My personal favourite part has to be the damaged spaceship-escape.
Simple, but very dramatic.

4 Stars & hearted.

Thanks FFHA, good constructive feedback there. I wanted to mix up the game play styles in this level, platform, side scroller, discovery ect and so focused on that rather than add the puzzle elememts.2010-02-26 07:14:00

Great level. Loved controlling the robot. It looked great! I got a little confused at the star part but I figured it out. Great beginning too. Loved this. Gave it 5 stars.2010-02-26 12:18:00

What a brilliant theme for a level!

The intro scroll and whole look is spot-on, i'm a sucker for any B-movie sci-fi kitsch, and you've done a great job here.
I really like the way the level unfolds too, a lot of variation.

I've got a few suggestions mainly to do with the pacing, there's a couple of spots that with a few tweaks would really help the flow -

The section with the key and the rotating circles. Firstly, if you put the key on the platform and its hanging over the edge when it lifts up, it can break the 'pusher' at the top. This happened to me, and you can't proceed any further, you might want to take a look at that.

Also, unless you're really attached to the rotating circles, i'd think about changing them to the more familiar cross shapes, for two reasons. Firstly, It'll give the player more room to manoeuvre the key back without squishing it, which in turn means you can speed them up a tad, the section slows the pace down maybe a bit too much.

At the end of the walking robot section (brilliantly done btw!) , again theres a fair bit of empty time between finishing off the last alien and moving on to the next section. I'd either gas the player a fair bit sooner or tweak the robot so he moves a little faster.

The other aspect i thought could be improved was channelling the player on the way to and from the alien ship. On the way up, you can take the ship all the way up to the ceiling and end up not really having a clue where you're supposed to be going. Maybe a couple of visual clues to just gently nudge the player in the right direction would really help. The exit from the spaceship and onto the grabbable stars could again do with a subtle clue, visual or otherwise just to let the player have an idea of where he should be heading. Its possible to work out the means of escape in this bit through trial and error, but i died a few times falling into the gas just trying to work it out where i could go and where i couldn't.

Hope some of this helps! I thought it was really great fun overall, I absolutely loved your take on the theme and the visuals, i just reckon it could benefit from some tightening up in a couple of places.....

I agree with everything Julesyjules suggested. I too am a sucker for campy b-movie style stuff and this one has that great balance of cool and cheesy. I don't know if I was doing it wrong but I couldn't get the saucers to pop/blow up or anything with the robot. I really wanted to though. It could just be me being a bad player or it could be you set it up that way. If you could blow those up I think it would be awesome - you could put the screaming sound effect on that too as they blew up... extra cheesy funny. Also noticed there isn't a sound effect for the ship that takes you to the mother ship. I'd recommend adding that and perhaps a sound effect when you finish the last boss too, maybe a tiny explosion too?!? lol

Love the level though and think if you follow Julesyjules recommendations and polish up a few sections you've got an even more awesome level on your hands. 5 stars & hearted from me

This level was very cool! I loved the theme (I'm actually doing something similar for a survival style level) and the design of the monsters was fantastic! I loved the brain monster at the end. Really, the only issue I had was with the speed of the robot's walk. It's just a little too slow, but then again, I am very impatient! I thought the design was great though and I loved shooting down those spaceships!

Nice visuals and a lot of fun! Good job!
