This is what happend: I was playing a level with my friends and suddenly...POOF... My ps3 shut down by it self and the red light started to flash. Then I tried to turn it on again and instead of a green light it was YELLOW..

Problem nr 2: My lbp disc is still in my ps3 and I dont know how to get it out!?
Please help

Sorry to hear that. As Doopz suggests, there is quite a few threads on YLOD and possible solutions or suggestions to your issue.

Good luck and keep us posted.

EDIT*re-read your post, if you send it off, Sony send your your disc back, if you do the below DIY method, it's safe in the drive as you detach it from the board*

Ha, YLOD, i laugh in the face of it.

Thats an easily fixable problem.

All you have to do to fix that is:
Take your PS3 apart down to the motherboard.
Heat it up with a heat gun.
repaste the thermal paste onto the CPU and GPU.
rebuild it and your as good as gold.

However

If you still have your warrenty on your ps3 then it might be more advisable to send it off to Sony as doing the above voids your warrenty (just taking the sticker off the side will void it)
And i am unsure on whether they give you, your oringal hard drive back (because they certainly ask for it along with the system) i think they wipe it or replace it i'm afraid. And also if you've been naughty enough to Gameshare, they'll still fix it but will ban your PSN account

Also if you intend to do the 'do it yourself' method then there are several things you'll need to know, (depending on your age, no offence intended, then obviously this would be advised against)
How to take apart the PS3, what wattage heat gun to use and how to remove and reapply thermal paste to the CPU and GPU.

since this was only made 24 minutes ago, i'll assume your still checking it, and i'll wait a reply before going further, i can assist you easily if needed as i've done it to my PS3 twice since i've had it and am now enjoying a good round of Aliens vs predator and Demon's souls

It's not the same thing!
In my case, it's not the YLOD, it's random freezing problem and something wrong with the game disc recognition and execution.
But my PS3 still works... and that is the most frustrating! I can turn it on normally, but it's the games that mess up....!

Anyway, I'm sorry for you CrazeAlec! It's really annoying...

Has anyone here gotten the screen of infinite peril? I just made that up, but it's a PS3 bug where your screen does nothing but show those wavy lines in the PS3 background, there's no buttons to push or anything to do, and it won't go away! Happened to me twice, I'm using my third PS3 now.2010-02-25 04:57:00

I'm so sorry to hear this. Mine is right at the brink of YLOD (I have the flashing red version of this) So I'm out of commission too - at least till I can get a new one, or fix the other one. I know it sucks... sucks bad.

@warlord_evil - I've not seen that. Sounds pretty but annoying.

Have you not considered doing what i said above?

About opening it up, heating and repasting?
It does fix YLOD and then you'll have 2 ps3's

They do ask for the HD, but you do not have to send it along. I spoke with them on the phone when mine died, and I had obvious concerns about my saved games. As I understand it, you can now take out your HD, take it to another PS3 (a friend's, or maybe you have 2) and insert it, then back it up to an external HD. This was not the case a few months ago, but we recently had new updates that allows for any PS3 (with the update) to read your PS3's HD. Back to the question above, yes they want you to send your HD, but you don't have to. And yes, if you send in your HD, it will be reformatted and you will get the same one back. Also, if you don't send in your HD, they will test it with one of theirs, but they will not send the HD they used to test it back with the system.
