The City in the Sky (Visual Remake)bonner123
A visual remake of my level City in the Sky. This level is visual based, so please rate according to visuals, not gameplay. It shouldn't be too difficult. Lots of work went into the visuals, so please take your time and enjoy the visuals. I'm not going to post pics because that would spoil the level. Have Fun!

It's cool!
I always wanted to make just a visual level, without worrying about any gameplay element.
Just using all the thermo to make complex shapes, using a lot of different materials and lights etc...

I'll try to play it tonight (if my PS3 works...)

I more or less did something similar to that.

I've just played it, and I can tell you that you do cared about the gameplay!
Even if it was simple, it was fun : little puzzles and mechanisms, little platforming elements...

I thought that it was going to be just a visual level to walk through and look at the details,
but in my opinion it's also a real gameplay level!

The visuals are great, very cleanly made, and very detailled!
Love the shapes, the scenery with all those little bricks on the walls, and the little objects!

The only thing that dissapointed me is the sky, that looks a little too empty...
As you choose to not use a real MM background, I think that you could have worked a little more on it.
The clouds looks too "squarish" and they are all identical, and you only used the last back thin layer for them.

I think this is the perfect case in which you could have used the extra layer glitch, in a very simple way :
More clouds (3 or 4 different shapes and size at least) distributed on the different extra layers,
some very far, some closer, just to give some depth, and fill a little more the sky....

Hope it doesn't sound to harsh, it's just my personal opinion...

Anyway, other than that, it looks great!
Well done!

Yeah, I agree the clouds are mediocre, unfortunately I don't want to use Mm clouds and I want them to look realistic, unfortunately it's not possible Thanks for the feedback! I'll edit the clouds if the thermo allows.2010-02-25 02:53:00

Absolutely stunning. The attention to detail (railings, brickwork etc) is incredible. Must have taken you ages. Adi2010-02-27 08:22:00

Cool, but I don't like how you fall into water. It would be better if you got rid of the fish, water etc. and covered the gas with huge thin layer cloud shapes(hard to explain, play Jumpbuttons skytown level and fall off something and you'll get the idea)2010-02-27 19:46:00

hey,

Nice level! I just tried it out, and loved the visuals. The architecture was really nice, and I loved your placement of bricks on the buildings within the levels. I thought your choice of materials was bang on.

I thought that, for such a good looking level, there were a couple of places that needed tweaking. I thought the clouds were a little boring looking and didn't really add much. You might consider varying them and touching them up a bit. Some sound effects would have been nice too, with the rotating windmills, and when the bridge drops, etc.

Overall really nice level! 5 stars!
