Industrial Assistance 2 [Two Player Only] by Jackofcourse

Archive: 67 posts

Firstly, as the title says, this is a two player level so you will need to bring a Sackfriend with you!
I've been wanting to make a sequel for sometime so finally thought I would, and here it is! Whereas the first had quite a few sections based around cool contraptions this one is far more gameplay based and as a result is probably slightly more challenging and less forgiving. I still wouldn't say it is difficult, but I'd say things aren't quite handed to you on a plate as much.

There's also a little side game to contend with if you are up for it! Throughout the level I placed 10 flashing lights, if you can find and grab them you will be rewarded with lots of points! Anyone who can find all 10, I will be very impressed!

Every friend and PSN buddy that has LBP of mine has played Industrial Assistance with me because I think it's fantastic and a great representation of incredible thought, creativity, and execution by a level creator. And everyone who has played it with me has been amazed. It's been published for quite some time now, but it still remains as an excellent level today.

So, when this comes out, I will be sure to check it out. And potentially record it for YouTube.

This level is now published! Simple enter the key room with two players and you will get the key for the proper level!

After messing around with Grant for half an hour on the part I wasn't entirely happy with we managed to fix the issue, only for our fix to bring up another issue (well no, it was just I didn't want to take out what was causing the problem! ) But luckily I managed to think of a way around it, so here it is!

Well, I was the first to play the level, and man was it a privelige! The level is, in one word, incredible. The ingenuity of the contraptions was great. and I felt like, wow, why didn't I think of that, many, many times throughout. Every obstacle was genius, and since I'm a two player level creator, I think it made me even more astounded to see the ideas you have come up with.

The visuals, while beautiful and awesome, I felt it could have done with a slight palette change from the first level, just as a refreshment. But it's still fine the way it is.

My favourite obstacle was so hard to choose. I liked the purple block section and the paint gun sections the most probably. So hard to choose!

I gave it 5 stars, a heart, and I most definitely will nominate this for level of the year. I cannot see much around the corner that will beat it. Awesome level. Thanks for making it

PS. You said in the Project thread for this that one section was the reason you created this level what was it?

Hey, I didn't check the level showcase thread and posted feedback in the ideas thread . But I've been looking forward to playing this all day, ever since you said you were publishing it soon. Excellent flow - great how the players stay separated for large parts of the level (we were talking about that in the other 2 player level thread) and it really changes the flow of the level and makes it unique. Just the right level of difficulty too - and some awesome puzzles thrown in too. I was trying to build a two-player level but it's nowhee near as innovative. Can't really find anything to suggest, tbh.

Easily :star::star::star::star::star: and heart. Wouldn't be at all surprised if this was spotlighted too.

haha I 'planned' on publishing it when I got up...(which would have been about 2pm anyway tbh ) but it just didn't happen, when I went back in to create mode there were just little things that were bothering me (I think that's probably why I didn't publish it last night really) so had to spend a time of time clearing them up.

PS. You said in the Project thread for this that one section was the reason you created this level what was it?

It was the paintinator shooting the platforms section that was the idea that made me want to make the level. That's also the part where I mentioned that I could make some ridiculously challenging and addictive gameplay with too. There's so many things that can be done with it, and I am definitely going to do one day. I had to keep it pretty simple just to ensure it fitted in with the rest of the level, but I'm starting to move away from the whole 'level for everyone' approach, so I'm sure you'll see it soon enough.

From the few testers that I had, it made them all stop and think for a few seconds, and that's exactly what I was after, not so puzzling that it takes ages to work out, but so you have to think 'hmmm what's this'. What I found quite amusing was the reluctance of some to just shoot the platforms and see what happens. They would type to me saying 'hmmm...' when there were still platforms they hadn't shot! As soon as you see how all the platforms move it's quite straightforward

Thanks a lot, glad you liked Killzone!

There's so much left that I have in my head that I have no doubt I'll want to do a third one at some point.

Thanks a lot for coming posting here as well., I noticed your post in the other one! Really appreciate your feedback! Yeah keeping the players separated but ensuring that it doesn't become frustrating if one dies or if the checkpoints aren't well placed is something that was always on the top of my mind.

Glad you liked it!

Me and mrsupercomputer got all the lights ^^ you can check on the level pics if you don't believe us, but we totally got all of them Actually we got one using a sneaky shortcut, involving a corner jump and a paintenator boost (hardcore co-op skillz) then wwe found out the proper way was so much easier lol

Awesome level. I think this is my favourite of yours to date. The puzzles weren't exactly taxing, but were original and involved enough that a little planning / forethought and experimentation was required, the perfect balance between casual and challenging IMO. I don't see that many people would actually struggle to get all of the way through, if actually trying - it'll be people who don't want to experiment and just give up that will be the issue, but meh.

I don't mind the palette being the same as the first one tbh, it ties them together nicely, especially as this level is such a step up in gameplay over the last.

I'll have to go back on and 5star heat it later, but it's really great. Oh and the very last puzzle - very nice

Great level, at least, as far as I got. At the section with the cart on the electrified floor that is supposed to launch one of you into three alcoves, we had the entire electrified floor jump up and get hooked on the right side. The car could no longer be moved to the right, so we could not go any further.

Still, after glueing that, I'd be surprised if this didn't make the Spotlights. Great puzzles, I especially like the tricky flashing lights. We got them all but the last one before we got stuck.

Edit: Oh, we uploaded a picture of the problem in case my description here isn't clear.

Oops! I'm so sorry you got so far and then got stuck! Yep, that part definitely wasn't stuck down, how it managed to jump up though I have no idea! It's now fixed anyway! Arghh, I hate that it wasn't perfect!! I try and pride myself on when publishing a level having no bugs at all!

I can't believe how easy you're finding all the lights either haha. There was one of two that I thought were pretty evil. Granted the rest are pretty straight forward!

Huzzah, mrsupercomputer and I just posted our top score. 15003. It would have been higher if he wasn't so good at touching electricity.

That's an impressive score! I think on my run throughs playing with two pads and getting all the lights, I got around 13,000. But that's obviously moving one pad at a time so there won't be as many two player combos going on!

Good stuff!

There's a key in another level, called IA2 Key or something.

I'm sure jack'll be unlocking this very shortly, just like he did with the original industrial assistance. Also, if your pal is hosting and they don't have the key bug, it'd probably work, no? Just a thought.

@mistervista, as Rtm said it will be unlocked soon Until then just joining a friend to play it should be easy enough. After all, in order to play the level you have to have someone else with you anyway

If someone had a decent connection, perhaps I'd be able to perform properly...

Anyway... I thought the level was fabulous Jack. It looked and played great. I don't remember anything breaking or causing frustration either as it was all very well done. Great job as always!

EDIT: Oh! The score board puzzle at the end...so simple, but so clever! I loved it!

Oh my lord, i haven't laughed that hard playing this game for ages.

The paintenator sections!! They're nice and tricky, but i couldn't stop laughing amid all the dying, its so comedy lining up your shots and squishing your partner instead.

Fantastic jack, its my favourite level of all yours. Lovely little touch with the scoreboard too.

Only suggestion would be to have the checkpoint at that first paintball section a lot nearer, if you die the spawn is off screen so there's a lot of running back and forth if you are as bad a shot as we were.

Thanks! I had so much planned for that last little puzzle. I don't want to give too much away in case I want to do it for another level but there was just one little problem that stopped me doing it, it could have easily been gotten around if I had just had a little bit of patience but by that time I just wanted to get it finished up and published!

Yeah all the faffing around with having to run back to the checkpoint and getting the paintinator again are something that I was concerned of myself. It was pretty unavoidable though as I had to split the players somehow. The other way would have been like the ramps that I have in other sections, which would have taken up even more room It would be a little easier if the player didn't have to pull the grab switch to give the paintinator to your Sackfriend...but I just liked that!

I'll have a see if I can move the checkpoint a little closer though, or even just loosen up how fixed the camera is. (It is quite unforgiving atm because the tracker is very low so you have to run all the way back.

Really glad you like it! I agree that this probably is my best. It's kind of strange because it feels like your best should be something you strain over and really worked on...but this just came so easy, from start to finish I think it took like 2 weeks!

I'm no logic whizz (see my level thread for evidence lol) but is there a way that if theres only one player left in the section, it activates a different camera with a wider view to include the checkpoint....?

i love this level!!! i played it today and the puzzles where amazing i loved the fact u made the secrets parts. Also i saw the new puzzles u made which where very ingenious and fun to play the visuals where very amazing and original. I found some parts that i found awesome like the paintinator part, the moving block and the very simple race(very fun).It was too bad that i was only able too put this five stars because if i could i would have put this 6. Great job keep up!!! By the way this is one of the best levels i have played so far.2010-02-24 02:24:00

Played this with Jules a bit ago.... wow - that was fun! I have no negative comments on this... you took the concept of the original and REALLY knocked one out of the park. Actually.... this may be my favorite level I've played of yours. It had some definate challenging moments, but they had really humorous outcomes.... such as accidentally hitting the wrong platform with the paintinator and squishing my cohort.

Very nice!

I can see this being a lot of peoples favourites really. You always have more fun in a level with someone else, and when both of you actually have an individual purpose as oppose to just following each other that can only help! Yeah, I can see a lot of people killing each other on those paintinator parts! Hopefully it will always stay on the side of amusing and not slide over to frustrating! But I guess if it does become frustrating they only have their selves to blame really! haha

Feedback much appreciated as always!

Thanks for all the feedback so far! I have a slight feeling that this may bomb with the community..

Looking at the stats not only has it dropped to 4 stars (probably inevitable) but it only has 25 completes out of 49 plays. Now this wouldn't usually be a bad ratio really, but when you consider that it isn't really open to the community at the minute and it will be just the forums who have played it, that doesn't look too great!

Ummm, looking at the odd number of plays on a 2 player level...

After playing with mrsupercomputer, I went in and then quit out, so I could rate and tag the level, so there's one non-complete for you and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Also remember that the key room is available for anyone to see and there is plenty of traffic to your page, so it's not just the forums playing atm most likely. And if it bombs with the community, so what? If you are planning on moving towards more challenging levels, then a midway point like this will soften the blow if you do make a genuinely challenging level next.

Yeah that's true. I didn't really think of the traffic to my page. I just thought 'I'm not republishing, so no one will see it' haha. To be honest, I'm not really that fussed, I was just commenting more than anything. What you just said about odd number of plays...if you play a level with 4 people, does it count as 4 plays? Never been sure about that, my guess would have been no, but from what you said it sounds like it could be a yes!

EDIT: LOL has anyone seen the picture on the key level? I must have forgot to stick one of the buttons down, and someone has managed to flip it over and get it on top of the other button so it triggers both...there's a picture of the buttons...and then a picture of him just stood on his own next to the scoreboard smiling! I love the lengths some people will go to!

I played this last night with Jack and had great fun, I was laughing all the way through it. Some of the sections are ingenious, and great to play 2p, especially the paintinator bits. I have to agree with others above me Jack, I think this is your best level so far.Its clever, well designed, beautiful, and fantastic fun. I'm gonna have to have another play through (jack) of course just to see how you solved that end bit we were working on before I had go to hoover

Anyway, awesome, loved it.

Thanks Grant

The bit we were working on...it was a simple fix but I'd like to think it was a clever one! haha The front cover just became a back cover! Still made it all look dangerous but meant I didn't have to glue it to anything else!

Hope the hoovering went well

@jack : I can't believe you're saying it's strange about the key bug. We've had this key bug for at least 6 months and lots of us have complained about it hundreds of times and asked when Mm are going to fix it.

I thought the key bug was where a level WOULDN'T unlock? Here the level unlocks for me just fine, but the key doesn't register as collected when you go to play the second time....

Yes jj and jack. It is that the level won't unlock for me at all. I can play the key level and collect the key 50 times but it won't make any difference. It just never unlocks the locked level !2010-02-24 13:37:00

Yes, I have the same key issue. Most keys will not unlock at all. For some reason Jacks level unlocks for me, but as Jules said it relocks after play. So each time i played i had to get key again. So this is happening to many i am sure.2010-02-24 14:35:00

This felt different from the first one. I cant really put my finger on it it just felt different. Dont get me wrong I still loved it. Liked the paintinator parts and the part where you slide the cars with the grabby things attached to them and swing across. Loved the two parts with purple block and hated the part where I got zero lights. Well, overall amazing and fun, just like all of your other levels.2010-02-24 23:07:00

Thanks a lot!

Glad you liked it. It is quite different from the first one. There's quite a few sections in the first one where you hit a button and just watch something cool happen. This one is far more interactive and gameplay based! Glad you liked those parts best in particular, I think the the paintinator and the end bit where you spin the circle around to move the block are probably my favourites too. Getting no lights isn't a problem...just means you have to play it again, right?!

The level is now unlocked! It didn't seem to be getting much traffic when it was locked so thought I would just unlock it now and see what happens!

I've also put a key for the second one in the first one...should have done that a lot earlier really!

Oh yeah... you really had to do that. Surprised you didn't from the beginning...

Finally played this one yesterday? What could I say that hasn?t been said still?
The use of the paint gun was awesome, the two player race at the end was great fun, very polished (as usual), some very clever puzzles? a joy to play with some good company.

Do you want to hear some negative points? Here I go:
-Visuals being very good become a bit repetitive at the end. I know? the thermo, but only one or two material changes from time to time would give the eye a bit of ?happiness?.
-I know a two player level is based on puzzles, but ?my body? was asking for some more variety.
Yep, you?ve got the race, but after the race, another puzzle with the gun? Mmmmh? that was a flaw moment for me.

Ok that?s all I don't want to extend the negative points anymore because we won?t see good levels like this everyday and a new level by Jack is a reason to celebrate.

Good job! And thanks for creating this!

Thanks Poms. It would be difficult to add more variety really with it being two player level really. In terms of the two paintinator section I just thought that it was such a good concept that it deserved two parts in the level! I made the first one slightly easier than the second as to ease them into how it works and what you have to do. And also with you being able to swap roles it really shouldn't feel too repetitive

Appreciate the feedback, thanks!

Hiya,

I'm such an idiot! It's now unlocked. It's been locked all day

I unlocked the one actually online...then later went and changed something on my moon and repubslihed, so I published the locked version over it. Stupid me! It's all sorted now anyway

Played this with loey1884, and we loved it! I really enjoyed the paintinator ones, and it was, as the description said, more challenging and gameplay based.

Only two very minor problems:

1. The level icon isn't really as good as IA1.
2. On the puzzle where one player pulls the cart along and bounces the other player up so they can go into 3 holes and grab something to form a bridge to pull the block along (soz for bad description), the holes were a bit hard to see. Other than that, well done! 5 stars + heart!

And I didn't find any flashing lights

Thanks

Quite a few people seem to be mentioning the icon. Especially on the comments section. Icons aren't really something I care about tbh. They are only really useful in order to entice a player into the level if they are browsing the pages, and seeing as I concentrate on promoting my levels on the forums and don't really care for picking up random plays then the icon becomes a bit redundant.

I always get the level finished and like 'woohoo publish time, exciting' then think 'oh ffs I need an icon', *30 seconds in create mode, takes a picture*, that'll do! Publish!

Just a quick bumpity bump to say this has recently been Spotlighted, which I am obviously very happy with!

And there should be a video of the level available quite soon for people who can't play it but want to!

Thanks for all your wonderful feedback so far too!

To be fair, that's what I do to It just seemed a bit out of place considering all your other level icons, but oh well, I understand what you're saying about promoting them here instead.

Watched the video for it... it's so slick and perfect, it's almost unfair. This is like... when someone goes back to remake one of their old levels and has a much clearer idea of what they want to do, and can do it even easier than they did the first time once they got the logistics of all this dual input stuff worked out the first go'round. Of course, I know coming up with new takes on it was not an easy task, after feeling like you tapped it out the first time.

Starts out a little ho hum, still amazing, but once I saw that paintinator drop down and you had the double input paint switch platforms over that stylish electrified thin barbed-wire lining... I was like "holy ****" - that was like a Voltiare moment right there. Also, I was noting the excellent sound use throughout, but when that paintinator dropped down, I was like "finally, someone listened to me about sounds!" - or maybe I just never noticed your knack for it til now heh

If Gruntos and I ever do another Twin Towers, I am definitely going to feel inspired by this and go ahead and snatch up that idea for a paint switch controlled elevator set up instead of two-ways... should be a challenge to implement, and make the "brain" side of the game more action-oriented. Watching your level video is both torture and motivation. I'm always on the verge of giving up on ever getting a PS3 again, and then stuff like this gets me all excited, not just as a player but as a creator that knows the logistics of what I'm looking at. Very inspiring.

The twin race section > the roller coaster swing by far... genius way to pad out the level and give it a boost in action and replay value. I remember from SEMINAL GEMINI that keeping pace with each other in horizontal split screen is a must, and when I saw that 2nd player slack in the video and get left behind, it sunk in how making both sections exactly alike was a great coop idea.

The puzzle room after that, like most of the level, makes old platform ideas seem fresh and all-new. Wow, no flashing lights for these guys huh... so I've still got a reason to play the crap out of this level when I get back.

Rest assured... you, Gruntos, Vanemiera and I - if it can ever happen are going to make a 4x only level someday.

Much appreciated as always Ninja. Thanks for taking to the time to let me know what you think even though you can't actually play it.

Here's hoping you get a PS3 back soon!
