Changes....

Archive: 79 posts

WIth so many great members leaving our ranks I'd just like to say a few things;

Change can be good, sometimes make life more interesting. But if it comes suddenly, or when you didn't want that certain thing to change, then it can feel bad. I am starting to feel this way about LBPC. It was all fine and people were happy. Then something happened (I have no idea what) and everything began to change. I won't name names.. Some members began to think about leaving, which set off a chain of events which led to some of them leaving LBP Central and in some cases quitting LittleBigPlanet altogether. This has strongly affected many members on this forum, inlcuding myself.

This is a thread to talk about changes in your life. Ones that are important to you, even if they may seem insignificant to others. There will be no bashing of other people's comments. This is a place to discuss emotions and how you felt when a change in your life happened, a good change or not.

Thank You for reading and I hope you share.

I have been here 2 days now and in my view, this site is full of life, i doubt it will be going away XD

Can't you just all leave so that I'm the awesomest creator around?

(Also, why does the automatic spellchecker "awesomest" as a word?)

Because 'awesomest' isn't a word.

This is going on community wide. The fact of the matter is that LBP is a year and a half old and in general gaming terms that's the death period. (I'm not saying that LBP is dying.. its far too original and high quality to die already.) People just want different things from it or have already gotten the things they wanted from it.

Myself, I got the game a while after it came out, so I'm kinda done with the casual creating phase and am looking to do some more serious work. That's why I made a switch in forums. The forum I was at couldn't match the level of quality levels and reviews and feedback that I can get here and it was adamant about not changing. I guess what I'm saying is that things in general change, its just the nature of life, and in the gaming world they change very quickly. Try not to get down about it. Just be open to meeting new members and try no to hold them to the expectations of the old members.

Hmmmm..... well, my view of it is that great creators have come and gone, and sometimes come again. Thegide disappeared for a long time, then popped back in and created more masterpieces. Vanemiera disappeared for a long time - then suddenly came back with some awesome stuff.

If you look on the showcase and in the spotlight, there have been astounding levels just recently.... some of the best I've seen. And me.... well, I've had many a level where I said "ok, after this one... I'm done for awhile".... then, I would suddenly think of an idea that HAD to be done.

LittleBigPlanet is like a big canvas, and as long as people can think of something cool to create it will be here. And regardless of some people leaving, others keep coming in.

My personal feeling is, I wish when people left they would leave quietly like Thegide, Vanemiera, and OCK. Eventually, you may get inspired again or feel like coming back. It makes it a lot easier if you didn't do an official "goodbye".

OCK, KAPBAM, Marino, Code, Quozl, DrunkMiffy, Thee-Flash, Bbroman, Maltay, Mark. D Stroyer, Forsaken, ea9424, Elbee, Lil-Pingin, Chaz'OSkulls, Creative, Reshin, Don Vhalt, BloodFlameX, Voltaire, RAINFIRE, ScytheOfGrim, Linque.

Recognise any of these names? These are just a few of the very active members who have left LBPCentral, many of them with 1,000/2,000/3,000 posts and others who were very influential creators in the early days of LBP. I know my activity has been pretty sporadic recently (a lot going on right now), but I know after being here for about a year and a half that just because a few (super cool) individuals leave doesn't mean the community will die.

When some of these guys started to leave about a year ago, myself and some of the other older members were a little disappointed, but then other people started to emerge like comph, rtm and jwwphotos to name a few and the community seemed to become familiar again.

The point is, LBP attracts awesome people and a lot of you just need to relax. LBPC is going nowhere. It's getting a little too melodramatic for my liking.

There have been a lot of people coming and going and Thegide, CCubbage and Killian are so right. Things change, people move on, sometimes they come back. Speaking of which, NinjaMCWiz is still trying to come back so that will be a change for the good once he's got that all sorted out. So yea, closed door - open window kind of point of view. I'm still here, it doesn't really matter as long as I'm here. And wait, CC is leaving? wtf?

I have to agree with Killian... this is getting a bit too melodramatic.

While I am sad to see some close friends leaving this week, I can't see how a site with over 1300 active members is a bad thing. Seems like when I joined it was nowhere near 600- 800 and remember last fall I think celebrating 1000 active members. Every two weeks the Community Spotlight is packed full of amazing levels by known as well as up and coming creators. It's really an incredible thing!

As long as the LBP servers are running and Mm is making new content for whatever version, patch, or cheese coming up, LBPC will be here.

I agree 100%. LBP without LBPC is unimaginable. I get all of the good levels I play from this site. It's a way better way to discover great levels that haven't gained recognition from the average LBP players, whose IQs seem to match that of a pea.

On-topic, Change is good. Like the new Borderlands DLC. It's gonna be good, I hope. Zombie Island of Dr. Ned was good. It was a significant change in my life. Actually not, because I haven't beat it yet.

In all honesty people leaving is a good thing (at the right time and done correctly) i felt like this site's more ripened creators were playing king of the hill with everyone, it's all part of life to one day come off your hill and let someone else have the spotlight. As Killian stated, No matter who leaves, there will always be someone to take their place.2010-02-23 00:12:00

I hate making changes. Usually I have to be basically forced into it.

I'm working on my last semester of college though. So that's something. Scary as hell though. Getting out of school and starting a life that, for the last two and a half years, I've been building it up to be my dream and livelihood and now i actually have to do it and face the reality of doing it. Sigh.

I've made this observation many times (probably not here yet though - except in a PM)...
The only thing more inevitable than change is resistance to change.
Even the best of changes can be hard to adjust to because we are all such creatures of habit. The past several days have been particularly difficult here at LBPC, culminating in a soap operatic melodrama, but I am convinced that LBPC is going to be fine. As stated earlier, if the spotlights aren't proof enough that the talent and creativity is only getting better, then turn your eyes to the devoted "staff" here at LBPC. I place quotes around that because no one here is paid to do all this work - every one of your moderators, admins, and the spotlight crew here at LBPC do all the work they do on a volunteer basis - strictly for love of the game and of this site.

Have I said a few things lately that may seem in contradiction to the statements I just made? Yes. But even as I typed those other emotional posts, I knew it didn't change my overall opinion of this game or this site. I'm hooked - and honestly, I'm as addicted to LBPCentral as I am to LBP. Yes, we've had some wonderful folks say goodbye lately, but the flags that they dropped will be picked up off the ground and carried forward by someone else with a desire to give back some of what they've been given, and we will march on.

I had a conversation with Morgana the other night... LBP is probably the most amazing game that many of us have ever played. It's create capacity makes it different than anything else out there. But it will not last forever. Mm's servers will not be up and active forever. If ever I have felt like I must seize an opportunity and get all I can from it, LBP is it. I want to enjoy the game and creating just as long as I am afforded that opportunity. Eventually, they will shut it all down. Make the best of it now!! Go!! Play!! Create!! Share!!

Well said, V0rtex. It's sad to think that someday LBP will be just a faint memory, as it seems such a large part of our lives today. Yikes! I've made some incredible friendships through LBP and this site, and I hope those will remain regardless of what the future holds.

I really don't see the point and drama of leaving a site about a video game.

There's no drama...

it's just that when you're "addicted" about something like LPB and that you share your passion with other people who feel like you, in this kind of friendly community, it's just normal I think to feel a little sad to see one of them leaving, that's all...

So now sure, there's a lot more dramatic things in life...
but each one will react differently to this depending on the relationship he had with the member who leave,
and his involvement in the game and the community. Some people will care, some don't...

Just to make it clear, this thread is about all changes, not necessarily LBP ones. E.g. Best friend moving away etc. ALthough you can talk about LBP and LBPC if you want

@Killian, I remember all those people. DrunkMiffy was awesome! I couldn't beleive it when they left, now it's happening again.

And I really hope when (yes it will happen ) MM shut down the servers, I hope this site remains alive for years after, so that I can maintain the friendships I have made here.. (You know who you are...)

[Lots of truth]

[Lots more truth]

Seriously, there is one reason why everyone is getting so upset about these people leaving and that's because a big deal has been made of it to begin with, the leaving thread for MrsSpookyBuz was a great sentiment and I totally understand why CC did it, but it's done nothing good that it should have done and everything bad that it could have. It's also set a precident for this kind of thing to continue. Zwollie has a leaving thread now, and of course, this can't be locked down by site staff as per the rules, because that would be hypocritical. So now what? Does everyone get a leaving thread because their friend decides they deserve one? At what point do we say "this guy was 'important' enough around the site to deserve one, but not that guy"? Now no disrespect to either MrsSpookyBuz or Zwollie, they are both great people, pillars of this community, friends of mine and I am as sad as anyone to see them go. But they should not have leaving threads as it just stirs up negativity.

As Killian points out, loads of highly active members have left - a lot of those he lists were before my time, but other people have left since and no one ever thought the site was dying. How much drama was there when NinjaMicWz went inactive? None. I mean, he ticks all the boxes, well loved as a creator and as a community member. Killian's not very active these days, teebonesy has fluxes in activity - he wasn't around for a while, dawesbr silently vanished. Hell, wexfordian has barely been here the last month or so, or did you not notice that because no one made a thread about it?

Yes it's sad when people leave, but it's sadder to see all these people jumping on a sensationalist bandwagon. This site, this community, is thriving. The community spotlight is bigger and better with every installment, the level of technical discussion is head and shoulders above the other sites, loads of social groups, the extra community feel in the general chat forums, more active members than any other LBP site and most importantly: there are new members joining every day.

LBPC is doing just fine.

LBPC is doing just fine.

You put the words-ball in the words-basket, drove it home. What I'm saying is that a truth has been spoken on this ground. You know logic, my friend - in electronic gates and in the reasoning of human endeavor.

You've lit the way so that others may understand, may see the truth.

Which is why I've decided to start a thread announcing that I am, in fact, occasionally on for intense periods and often gone for long stretches. People need to NOTICE. You showed me that, in fact, they haven't noticed me as much as they could have, and rightly should have.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm going to post it in the "level showcase" thread because that's just how mad I am. The kind of mad that I might even consider "not taking it anymore". That's how mad.

Also, I accidentally peed on compher's visitor page.

I'm so SORRY everyone!!

Well, I'm the kind of guy that gets emotional about those kind of stuff.
I still continue to visit the forums for the people.
I hardly play LBP, only the levels from people I RESPECT.
People, not only creators.
It's easy to be good creators, and it's not the same to be great persons.

So, melodramatically or not, I think we lost two great people, and this saddens me, even if I absolutely don't understand and support the way in which they left.

If some of you guys is somewhat cold to come and go experiences, you shouldn't take part in forums activities, in a community like this, otherwise people like me think that you're only hypocrite and searching to gather plays for your levels (and LBPC is stuffed with people like this).
Then, anyone has the right to live his sadness, disappointment and whetever as he likes, writing posts or not.
I think I said enough.

rtm and Killian hit the nail on the head with people coming and going... natturas hasn't even been seen in what feels like years, and alot of the very best creators in the game don't even come here. _OIL and 90% of Japan for example.

I really shouldn't have contributed to the dramatic empathy of the situation, but I just wanted to try and mediate it before it got too far out of hand. Didn't get a chance to, and 3 people got dragged through the mud. Everything's obviously going to be fine, but I probably said more than I should have in hopes of changing MrsSB's mind... LBP's not dying, and neither is this place.

...like people who play MMO's and chat together for years, all things must come to an end. I have friends online who know everything about me, that I've known for over 10 years, but we haven't all played a game together since the Dreamcast (Phantasy Star Online and Quake III) - but we're still friends, and have a few common places to meet up and chat. Conversely, some of the boards I went to for years are ghost towns now, full of spam bots, and most of the IRC rooms from back in the day don't exist... but any bonds you develop with people, that extend beyond the worth of the game will continue on... if they don't, then it's not really a loss, and nothing to fret over.

I watched a video of the Everquest server shutdown once, and I never played that game, but the people crying and saying goodbye to each other after almost 10 years was pretty sad.

As much as I miss creating, I think what I miss the most is playing absolutely stupid levels with deboerdave, Jaeyden and CENTURION24 and screwing around til like 4 AM.

Nattura's actually making a level right now. ^__^ His profile got messed up right before the beta, but the water update fixed it.

Nattura was gone for a really long time because he got frustrated with the game. He tried to import his profile into the beta, it wouldn't go and he said "eff it" ... which is how many people feel from time to time about the game. Some people, after many months, come back. Other people don't. Maybe Zwollie will come back, maybe he won't... Same with MrsSpookyBuz... but I don't blame them if they don't. In Zwollie's case, things can get frustrating at times, especially if you're a creative type who feels your worth more notice than you are receiving. And concering MrsSpookyBuz... well, there are two sides to every story and I don't have the information, but sometimes it's best to just walk away from undesirable situations. So... whatever will be will be.2010-02-23 15:16:00

Ok i think it is fit for me to post here as a lot of changes for me at least have happened here recently that i wish had't. I am 14 and am almost 15 in June, i'm homeshcooled which means i get a lot more privellages than other kids my age do, for example i am posting on here right now when other kids my age would be at school. As i a homeschooled i am doing my GCSE's early all the people in the UK will know what they are (basically big exams) normally someone of the age of 16 would be doing these exams. I am only 14 and so i am having a lot of pressure put on me and my freinds and family in surporting me and also helping me get through doig this but also keeping up to date on the computer ans LBPC.

My mother really hates me going on electronics she would liek to take them away form me for good and on several occasions she had, i went without my xbox 360 which i ahd had only for a few weeks which they got me for my birthday. They took it away form me for 4 months and in that time i wasn't allowed on the computer playstation or 360. This nearly killed me (metaphorically or course) but it was really hard for me, however in this time had with no electronics i saw what a nice person i could be and how different the world is without electronics. Moving on after the ban was over my Mother decided she wanted to sell the xbox even tho all my reall life friends had one and that i really wanted one. After this i moved back to the playstation which i've had since day one, the only real game i had left was LBP my mother decided to sell all my fave games such as cod 4 and 5, i started to really enjoy playing LBP.

Me being me i started looking up tutorials for create mode and funnily enough i found this site. I thought i had landed in heaven, i scavenged the site for the rest of the day looking at all the cool stuff people had made and what such a great commuinty this was. I really wanted to get stuck in posting here so i decided to register and soon enough i was postign and lookign through all your great resources. That was October last year, i met some amazing people (you know who you are) i also had the great priveledge of meeting and becomeing great friends with great creators such as MrsSpookyBuz and Mother-Misty.

Now when i look back after writing this post i realise what a great site this is, it's not all the famous people and the levels that keep this site alive, it is it's members that show unrivaled comitment to this site, i would happily donate all my life savings to this site (which sits at a meager ?16 pounds) as i love it so much, it has been there for me when no one in the real world was there for me.

I never really had a girlfriend but after joining this site i have got so much more social i go out to the cinema a lot with my friends i now have a girlfriend, i fell so much more confident after joining this site and seeing how nice people can really be.

I guess what i'm trying to say is that this site dosent need all the great creators out there to keep it alive, it needs its members to show the site how commited they are to it. So please don't get all down in the dumps just cause some great creators have left, more great creators will come in the future, i see great potential in some of the levels in the level showcase and people don't worry just cause MrsSpookyBuz is leaving, she is just one piece of straw in this massive haystack that forms LittleBigPlanetCentral.

Thank you for reading!

Life is a succession of changes. If we spend our time mourning the past, we forget to appreciate what we have in the present. We are then left with only regret when the present, too, becomes the past.

I've been a member of a lot of (now defunct) online communities in the past. This kind of thing always happens. Influential members come and go. Membership soars and then slowly dwindles, until the community is no more and people move on to other things. It's not something to be sad about, it's just the way things go. Life would be incredibly boring and pointless if nothing ever changed, if we never met new people we hadn't known before.

This being said, I don't think LBPC is anywhere near the point of dwindling. So appreciate LBPC for what it is today, not for what it was in the past! It's still a great, fun place filled with a bunch of great and upcoming creators who are willing to help others, inspire and amaze us with their levels, and share their knowledge when they can, right?

So remember to worship me and my crazy inventions while you still can! Haha!
(No, I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, not that many people would care )

Seriously guys...
It's obvious that the community doesn't die if people left, but come on, sometimes some comments make people look like cogs...
This one is broken, we can change it, let's wait for the new piece coming from the overseas factory.
Behind the silly pics and ID we're human being with passions, real lifes, and unique attributes, and losing someone takes its toll.

Yeah, this site really is an example of manners and civility... I honestly think alot of that comes from the fact that we all enjoy what we're coming here for, aware that everyone is different ages and cultures, are all really open to new ideas as creative people, and definitely the international sharing mentality that comes from the game doesn't hurt.

Believe me, there are plenty of communities online where people are afraid to be themselves, and everyone is busy trying to be vindictive and demeaning to each other or show off... good place this is, and yeah, lbpholic... it's like this -

I just want to be clear that I agree with you guys that the changes around here aren't the end of LBPC at all. Just sad from a strictly personal point of view.

As I mentioned in Zwollie's thread, there is a sense of panic that can spread like wildfire if not kept in check when several influential people go at once. It gathers momentum as people mourn and cry "the sky is falling!" The worst part about this is that some people looking for change in their lives might see this as a sign to jump ship. Sobbing endlessly about it is poor for morale and does the site more harm than good.

I look at the number of new members joining and becoming active on the site and I can't think anything other than that LBPC is continuing to thrive. There is an amazing awareness among the community here that people have real lives outside of the game, and this makes for a very unique and fulfilling experience. LBPC is only half about LBP; the other half is about sharing ideas, inspiration, creativity, and life with strangers and friends alike.

The best part is that we can welcome people back just as easily as we watch them go. Even LBP at times becomes tiresome, but unlike other games it's an outlet for creativity, something the mind continually craves. And so I'm not at all surprised that many creators who left in 2009 are making a return. We may see some of our friends back here yet.

I don't get this what do you exactley mean.

I just meant that you found a good place, and it's a good thing that you saw people can be nice, and didn't end up on a site full of trolls and flame wars where everyone is terrible... those kind of sites even make me feel like crap, even though I love to argue.

...and the home video was just supposed to be funny... ie: this place is like the land of chocolate.

I laugh at those pseudo-nihilistic people that hate everyone.
If you hate people you don't take part and enjoy communities and the such, ask to William Murderface for reference.

Gamma Ray - Changes

I need a new direction
Another thought to serve me right
My mind has got an infection
And there's nothing that seems to help
I need to grow an island somewhere inside my head
Where nothing can disturb me,
Where I am free, where I'm forever set

Maybe it's not important
If we are dead or alive.
I never ever wanna listen to the sirens
I'm alive, still alive.

Who says: "We are not guilty"
I say: "We never know the way it goes"

Changes - all around me, all inside my head
Changes - changing face, still remaining mad.
Changes - an all day routine.

Hard to enjoy the good times,
Decay is what I feel
God, it's makin' me porous, vanish in haze,
I wonder, wonder if I'm real.

Newflash - under the new regulations
Non-conformity will be punished by law.
Relax - and don't forget to unplug your TV set!
Sigh no more!

For you, you are not guilty,
No, no, you're not responsible at all.

Changes - all around me, all inside my head
Changes - changing face, still remaining mad.
Changes - an all day routine.
Changes - all around me, all inside my head
Changes - changing face, still remaining mad.
Changes - changing systems, still insane.
Changes - but the madness will remain.

Who is the man who says I'm never gonna die?
It's a lie, it's a lie!
And who is the man who says, I never have to sigh?
It's a lie, it's a lie!

Oppression, resistance
We will never change our way,
The island in my mind is growin'
More and more, day after day.

Changes - all around me now, all inside me now
Changes - wanna cry no more, sigh no more.

I dislike change, as for me, the most notable changes have been surgery, most recently the change of adding a titanium alloy rod from the base of my skull too my neck, which turned out to be the biggest screw up ever as it made everything worse.2010-02-24 15:25:00

Yeah, I love Hawkwind. I've had a huge 4 disc collection of theirs that came with a graphic novel since I was about 13. Mom got it for me, since she grew up on the music, and actually knew the band members personally... lmao she always tells me how one of them came to her flat with a tape that he made for her all inspired with egyptian sounds and ideas because she used to wear her eyeliner like Cleopatra.2010-03-11 20:16:00
