Sackboy Plays LBP PSP!CyberSora
http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/4002/snapshot201002211.jpgHave you ever wondered what Sackboy does for fun on LBP PSP? Well the answer is Sackboy plays LBP PSP on his own PSP! Play through the eyes of Sackboy, and have fun in this quick LBP PSP level. If you though Sackboy was small, imagine him seeing himself in LBP PSP!
I spent about 46 hours on this (yesterday, Saturday February 20, 2010, I didn't sleep at all ), and I can say that so far this was one of the most complex levels I made so far. You begin playing in a PSP screen, which continues to move throughout the level, until you meet a boss.

There's obstacles around the level, and all are easy to accomplsih. I was never a great user of stickers, so this level helped me cover that area.

Also, there's 2 boss battles, one fairly easy, the other a bit more difficult (but not really). In the screenshot above, the final boss is a scorpion, something that fit the the whole desert mood I was amiming at.

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/1617/snapshot20100221h.jpg
The first boss, consisting of 2 cobras, both easy to kill.

I hope this level is good enough, as I set everything I got to it. Oh, and if I get requests, I can probably make the scorpion a prize. I'm really fond of it, since it was a very complex boss that took a while to get working. But in the end, it was worth it.

Side-note: I would like to thank the LBP PSP community for the many inspiring levels created. I would also like to thank jeffcu, Taffey, Coxy, Shade_seeker, and Arrestor for making such awesome levels that made me want to make an awesome one of my own. famouscustard, for the idea of using a PSP in LBP PSP, and finally, to the guy who made something like this in LBP PS3 (I played the level, but I didn't get to see the name before my PS3's YLOD), thanks for the level. Thanks everybody.

Peace

Wow, this is pretty awesome. I really didn't know what to expect at all, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It's a very simple idea but implemented quite well. I like how you used a slightly zoomed out camera angle to make Sackboy's proportions look correct as compared to the in-game PSP. It's very abstract playing a PSP in a PSP! This is a totally different take on famouscustard's idea, but both are great in their own ways. Some of the obstacles are kind of tricky to get through, but hey this isn't supposed to be a cakewalk! The challenges are difficult without being impossible, and there's a good mix and pacing between the easier stuff and the harder challenges. I thought your bosses were tuned about right. I thought the final boss fired the "laser" from its tail for a little too long, but on subsequent plays I think it's actually just about right. It seems slightly impossible at first, but give it a second and you'll see the pattern with no problem - just how a boss should be. It's visually pretty straightforward, but the details are very nice. The slightly zoomed out camera adds to the "concentration" of the details, and the background you picked matches perfectly. Oh, and the PSP itself looks great. It's easy not to notice, but I think that's a big plus. If it looked goofy your eye would be drawn to it, but this one looks spot on.

I don't have lots of complaints. It's a short level - almost more of a minigame than a true level but that doesn't really take anything away from it. This is a great go-for-the-top-score kind of thing and is both fun and quick to replay. If I had to complain about something, it's that there's a visible border between the PSP and the black-stickered background. Material changing that to "dark bark" or "black fiber paper" would fix the issue, but this is really a very small and picky thing. The PSP itself also kind of wobbles around a little, but I can't really decide how I feel about that. Although very slightly distracting, it does replicate the slight moving around that happens when actually playing a PSP. Besides, I doubt you could completely get rid of that no matter what you did.

So I really like this level - 5 stars and a heart. Well done CS!

EDIT: I'm not sure if you meant to post this as F4F or not... If you did, then you'll need to add "F4F:" manually to the title of the thread. The F4F feature is slightly broken (for the moment) but CC knows about it and will hopefully have it fixed shortly.

Hey CyberSora,

Gasp. This is definitely my most favorite work of yours! I have played the similar PS3 version of this so this isn't entirely new, but hey, it's another PSP on the PSP. Ha! This concept works so much better in this platform in my opinion, as it is somehow a play on itself. Regardless, it would be unfair to compare it to the PS3 version, because this one definitely felt fresh while I was playing.

The side scrolling mechanic was mesmerizing and well-executed. The deserty Middle-Eastern theme also worked really well, and the architectural elements you included were a marvel to look at. The only problems I had at some points were the areas where you re-spawned and landed on a hazard to die again, but I guess this is unavoidable. However, it didn't detract too much from the experience as the dynamic movement kept me in awe the whole time.

Your two bosses were astounding! Your construction this time around was spot on (I remember being picky about the blockiness of your moon in your previous level). I loved the Snake Charming bit (brilliant!) and that scorpion, whew! Now that's a scorpion. I did face somewhat of a problem here...nothing too serious though. Whenever the scorpion emits its projectiles from the stingers, my sackperson seems to glitch as it disappears while I was unaware of whether s/he died or re-spawned. I know this is beyond your control though, so don't worry about it. I also picked up on the sticker thing like Taffey, but I wasn't too distracted as the moving scene always stole my attention.

Good job on this one CyberSora! I can't believe this only took you 46 hours...it looks like weeks and weeks of hard work. Wow, I envy your work ethic. Now if you can pull something like this in that short amount of time, I'm curious as to what you can produce with a longer duration! 5:star:s and a heart, no doubt. Of course, I hearted you already!

Charming the Snakes to their death,

Thanks guys! I never really made a "descent" level until now, so WOOT!

@Taffey
Thanks for the feedback! Hmm... I didn't know of that cardboard border thing. I thought it was just my bad corner editing. I'll fix it. Oh, and glad you like my sticker work, since no doubt you're an expert on the area.

@jeffcu28
Thanks for that feedback! The scorpion sometimes kills you unexpectably, because of the fast gas blocks coming at you, with the many wenches and wobble bolts I made, it sort of gets like that. Oh, and the "fall to your death" thing was something out of my hands... until now.

@Arrestor
Thanks! I also have nothing to add.

@famouscustard
Thanks for your also slightly short feedback! I know it's short but to be honest, I almost ran out of space! So making it longer would be impossible, unless I make the PSP go up like an elevator. But I don't see that happening, it doesn't seem possible. Oh, and nice job on making your "PSP World". Without that level, I might have made the level a horror show, like... LBP PSP on the DS or something! Scary.:eek:

@Everybody
Thanks for enjoying my level. And yes, I think I abused the word "thanks" too much... thanks!

@jeffcu28
It might be a good idea...

Hehe...Just the thought of it is funny. I don't know...maybe it's just me.

Oh sorry, I wasn't being mean. I just thought that people would think I should stick with one "side-scrolling game platform". You know, since another one might look repetitive.

@Everybody
(Now F4F. CC really should work on the auto F4F thing on the levels titles, shouldn't he?).

EDIT: Oh snap! I figured out a way to make the F4F on your level appear (yes this was a F4F level Taffey )! After I saw the F4F was nowhere to be seen, I went to go edit the title. Then BOOM, I got it! Follow these steps to get it:

1. After making your thread, go to the post and click Edit Post.
2. When you see the post go into edit mode, click on Go Advanced.
3. When your browser finishes opening the page, you will see the box Delete Post. Well underneath, you'll find another box entitled Your Message. In that box, go to the "Use F4F?" section and click "Yes, use F4F".
4. Save your post.

Hope this helps everybody out with the F4F system.

Peace

Unrelated to this thread, I've actually been trading PMs with CC about the issue. He's got it all fixed, buttoned up, and working beautifully. Thanks CC!

Your welcome.

Oh, and I couldn't change the scorpion's laser time. The wenches and wobble bolts kept braking off after everytime I tried to tweak it. Sorry.

(Oh, and CC already fixed F4F, huh? Great, because the "old" way was a bit annyoing to be honest. ).

Now I played this level and it was one of the most innovative lbp psp levels I have played. I though it was amazing how you were able to make it so you had to move at the pace of the psp. The one thing i had issues with was the scorpion I though the laser attack went on for far to long but to was not that big of a deal. I gave it 4 stars and a heart I believe.2010-02-24 07:32:00

Hey Cybersora,

Very cool level. I love the PSP border and the scrolling mechanic (very 8-bit). The look of the level is extremely professional and while in terms of design you haven't attempted anything crazy or spectacular, everything you have done feels and looks very polished and coherent.

The bosses are excellent - particularly aesthetically - and while they're not hugely challenging, they are still satisfying to defeat. There's not really a huge amount to say about it, but I hope you don't take that as a negative - you just really seem to have done nothing wrong. I suppose if I would change anything it would be the material you used for the PSP itself. While it's very nicely corner-edited, it looks a bit strange being made of stamped steel, but that's really a very minor point.

Oh, and your screenshot really doesn't do your visuals justice at all.

Wow! You've made an excellent level! I was a little edgy about the idea at first but it works. (A PSP inside a PSP!) And I love auto scrolling levels and you captured the speed perfectly! The boss battles were amazing too! Theres not much I can add that hasn't been said by others, so I'll end by saying 2 words: FIVE STARS! Congrats on making a great level!

Ps. Seeing as though its F4F could you please leave some feedback for my level "A Sack's Tale!"

@salieri
Ya, I have no digital cameras or anything, so it came out like that. If only I had one, then my screenshots wouldn't be so horrible. Sigh...

@Fastbro
Well do!

@Taffey
Thanks! I had a bit of trouble on the tail, but it worked out in the end.

@Arrestor
Well the scorpion wasn't going to get harder when the laser time was cut short. I decided to leave it like that though, because either way the chances of you Acing the level is around 50/50, mainly because of certain obstacles and the Scorpion King (that's the new boss's name ).

Congratulation on the spotlight CyberSora. I loved this level.

Non stop fun from start to finish. Keeping everything on the move was a nice touch. Reminded me of those levels in Mario Bros 3 where you have to keep on the move on top of the ship.

Five stars and a heart, plus I hearted you as creator.

Oh, your level Nearer My God to Me is lovely. That is one of my favorite hymns. Five stars and a heart on that one too.

Awsome level

I need to go so I won't write much.

Its a great concept having the screen move like that, I have never seen anything like it before. I sometimes found that it did not move fast enough though! jum over and obsticle then sackboy has a lack of clean air and dies! The snakes - you said easy, they are supper easy! I found that the scorpion was about the right difficulty though. One problem was if you die over a flameing pit...Entrace fail. Two deaths for the price of one!
Altogether though 5 star and would love you to make a longer and harder version!

As this is f4f please may you give feedback for my level Dungeon Escape!

Wow, somehow I have not played this level until today, and man was I impressed once I finally got around to playing it!

I think the thing that I love to see more than anything in a level is an original idea, and man did you pull that off well CyberSora! This level is sooo unique. You've taken LBP PSP and made it feel like an old school Mario game It was just great. I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time that I played it!

I really don't have any complaints. I got lost as to what plain to be in every once and a while, but that is fine, and it encourages me to try the level again. That was really the only issue I had, and it wasn't your fault at all! The level looked great, played great, and was super unique!

Awesome work CyberSora!!!
