Red Eagle 2: B2 Bermuda (With trailer+pics)

Red Eagle 2: B2 Bermudaharedriel
While chasing Drya-ray, a cliche killer laser, you get shot down from your plane and land on a small island in the middle of the Bermuda triangle. But everything is not as it seems and the island may hold many darker secrets than just the crazy creations of the maniac called "Desert Fox".
It is a very long open-ended level where you have to backtrack, explore and solve puzzles, so it's not for everybody.
I have finally made the sequel to my (I think) Pretty successful level, Red Eagle 1: The Hero.

Even though it is named after a MGS pack sticker, I promise it has very much original content, including 3 bosses, which of 1 is hidden, powered-up paintinators (less shots is required to kill an enemy when you get the better version) and a Ratchet and Clank-styled hacker powerup (You know, like the decipherer from R&C 1)

I'll check this out next time I'm online, partly because you left feedback on my level but mostly because this level looks great! I'm a pretty generous reviewer as well.

P.S. I love Ratchet and Clank. I want to try the hacker.

righty-ho, my feedback.

i enjoyed the concepts in the level, such as the sub. the gunfight was well executed, with another enemy popping up smoothly. the story was intriguing and very "evil genius". the password idea was very good, allowing you to go back to a specific part of the level.

my only thing to say is the targets on the sea monster should be bigger. the gun is quite chunky and doesn't move that easily. that's fine but i found it difficult to hit the tiny targets with it. just make them bigger.

all in all, a very good action level!

I've made a small update revamping the Outdoors visuals and adding a new miniboss. Also, There's something extra now for those who beat the hidden boss, but nobody has even completed the level yet...2010-02-27 11:59:00

I agree with Trip090. The seamonster's targets should be bigger. And it broke a few times.

It broke at the first hacker. I wasn't able to remove it, so I had to start over. Luckily you have used the password system, very handy when the level breaks. Rigth now I can't remember where it also broke. Arh, I should have written the review yesterday. I see if I can remember it another time. But there did also happen another strange thing.

I had only shot 1 out of 3 of the last symbols, but still I could go to the boss. Even thought it wrote I needed to shoot all three. I just jumped into the lift, and it took me to the boss.

Except of these issues it was very good. And I liked the plot. 5 Stars.

I'll edit these issues as soon as my PS3 is working again (Stupid fatty date error!)
Until that, You'll just have to deal with them.

Okay, hopefully this doesn't count as a selfish bump but I wanted to inform you that I've now edited the bugs and glitches so that you know.

Hope to get some feedback from the more experienced level reviewers too...

Interesting level. The level has an intriguing multi-path and amazing boss battles. The hacking puzzle is something new that I haven't seen in any LBP levels. I managed to beat the entire level and the hidden boss too. 4 out of 5.2010-03-19 18:44:00

Great level, but where do you go after you do the first hacking puzzle? Also, the gun on the fish boss is VERY hard to aim.2010-03-19 21:04:00

What, glitchess???!!! Nooooo.......... I'll have to take another look on the level's logic. When the first hacker is done, it should open a pathway for you to go to.
And the gun, it's as precise as I could get it, but making the second target easier to shoot would not be a bad idea.

Okay, glitches are now edited (they were caused by my clunky logic... I knew it was evil all along!) and the Anglerfish boss is now a lot easier since the mines come out slower. There's still one issue to edit, but it's nothing devastating.

Could I add you and show you?

I just played this and I must say, it was awesome. Along with my own levels and Tanarri's Frozen in Time series, it was by far the best open level I have played. The visuals were great, the platforming was fun and the puzzles, especially the hacking were awesome and very unique. :star::star::star::star::star: and a heart from me. I'm looking forward to number 3!2010-04-04 04:33:00

I'm hosting a competition ---
First one to beat my score on this level gets a special prize... Something to do with RE3 (I'm talking about Red Eagle... Or am I?)

Hullo.
I'm really sorry about not getting round to F4F on this. I've been playing fallout a lot and working on the spotlight (oh and working in real life :o)

ok... i like the password/start idea, but its hard to move the arrow and i wasnt sure whether to click or what. the plane crash is cool but dark - maybe some lights on it?
I'm not sure pirates music works for a secret agent level. It seems that everyone uses it when they see water these days. How about just a bass line from one of the editable tunes instead. Nice use of decorations in the sand. that texture is easy to make bland, but you kept it interesting.
I normally don't like the VR textures, but combined with that white wall, its quite nice. I like the turret puzzle and the broken corridor.
I REALLY don't like this boss sorry. The boss itself is well made (reminds of that thing from finding nemo), but the gun is SO hard to control and I keep randomly dying on gas. It took me ages to line it up and then it wasnt clear when it was firing. If i wasnt doing F4F i would have quit at this point. ...but with a superhuman effort i got past it.

Ok into all the keycard stuff, really nice. Requires a lot of thinking and remembering what you've seen but it works nicely. I LOVE the gun powerup idea and you have a good variety of sections. My personal favourite is the jump that fires you across. the 3d maze is very nice (i did somehting similar in meddling magpie).

epic level. Used the password system - glad its there. first few bosses were great, the one that flies over you really impressed me. I didnt like the underwater one - mainly cos i couldnt see a thing. i had to keep getting my popit out to see where i am.

I think cos this level is so tricky, you've done wisely to not republish it. Although you dont have many plays, you'll get better players from here on forums. I wish i'd done the same with my discworld level.

Overall, i think this level was hard to get into, but once you do, its brilliant. I think you need a to make BOTH fish bosses a lot easier, but apart from that I like it a lot. I think you will lose a lot of players at that first boss. I hope you carry on making levels with this back and forth style - its unique and very different from the normal secret agent stuff. btw thanks for not making it a shoot fest every 10 seconds - much appreciated.

Looking forward to part 3.

Again, sorry for delay on this,
Adi

I actually made Arradi a gun that always stays upright(with some trickery), but there was too little thermo to implement it.2010-04-12 12:29:00

Yeah, thanks, and the invisible gas you died on is invisible because of some sort of bug. It is supposed to be the anglerfish's poison breath attack, but it somehow comes randomly invisible...

AND...
I found a way to save a lot of thermo! Now, I can remake the anglerfish fight(I've got a really neat idea )! And add some textures! and... And... Creative power overwhelm... I'll change the musics, I think I have a combination that's not commonly used and would work here

EDIT:
I rehauled the anglerfish fight, which now includes:
-A new weapon. I finally decided to scrap the paint-powered old one and made new with the use of mag keys. But, I think I made it even better, because the new gun is a RPG-0.7
-A new attack for the anglerfish. With the new weapon, I felt the fight was too easy. I made a secondary laser beam attack to spice things up a bit...
Test it out, if you haven't already. It plays out completely different now, mainly thanks to the new gun.

I gave the level a major update in the form of SECRETS! Yes, look out for the red "Omega" symbols to get some extra points and goodies at the end of the level. Some of them are really hard to get and require tricky platforming, but at least 4 are easily gettable. They will hopefully help you with your score fight with me

Oh, and as with this update, I think I might've leaked some minor glitches in. Those will be checked and corrected tomorrow.
(Nothing game-breaking though)

hey man,
I really liked the level, as I played with adi he has summed up most of what we discussed.
If you have a friend over/in your pod and you want to have some brain-pondering lengty gameplay with some cool bosses..
this is one of the levels you should play.

I agree that the water boss was too hard, you should really try to work on the cannon.
besides that, good job on them!

Anglerfish and Hacker tempted me into playing this.
As usual I'll note stuff as I play then summarise.

- Rainbow shoe option is nice.
- I don't know what that red horseshoe/GOWlogo/omega letter is but I grab it anyway.
- Could use a little detail in the early stages, these looked pretty plain compared to the rest of the level.
- First bad guy. I love how there is a multi path to kill it. Same with the piston blocks.
- Fish. There is this orange bar that comes in from the left of the screen (I assume it's a laser of some sort), it doesn't come in far enough to affect how I kill the boss.
- Why only 2 shots from the gun? Just curious.
- Would be nice for the boss to have a HP bar. After I while I didn't know if I was doing any damage. Apart from laser/bombs that started to pop up indicating I was doing something right.
- I like the dialog so far. Is "mad skillz" inspired by that Ratchet and Clank scene?
- Filing cabinets were cool. Would be funny if there was a "do washing" note in his world domination to-do list or something.
- Missed the magic mouth after the cabinets and got locked in so I could re-read it.
- The neon/glass pipes look really neat. Generator room or something. I take the lift down, press the floor switch, climb stairs press the left upside down switch and fall down to the left and get stuck. I can move the cabinet behind, but I still cant get out. *pop*. The power/lift is on. I still don't know what the cabinets to the left are (or what that left switch does) so I go back up. Elevator! gun! progress!
- I go back down and that dissolve front layer cabinet is gone.
- Ambush! It's hard to shoot the bomb so its right up against the gun. Maybe make the glass terrain flatter? I spam the p-ball gun trigger and push the bomb to the gun 3 times. Nothing indicates progress. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Why are the bombs gas deadly btw? I now hear that there is a paint switch in the middle of the gun I was doing it wrong. I would advise turn the weakness into my above method (more interesting) or make that paint switch visible.
- After that I shoot that right path and go in the water. Access denied (looks like a bonus room to me) I remove decorations from beast and see no weakness. I cant direct/grab the bomb to him, and I can't get back out of the room.
- I restart the level and use keycard to and arrive at the sub. Orange/blue colours look nice here btw. I skip what ever I can to get back to where I was. I lose the advantage of finding those red omega things the first time.
- Arrow on new elevator is a nice idea.
- I get ambushed again, this time the checkpoint has no "safe" zone.
- Layer puzzle is really cool. I love that idea. I thought the goal was to get the red thing in the middle, but apparently not. Good thing I dont need to backtrack through it.
- Didn't know where to go so I tried the water again, it says I dont have keycard 2. It said password 198, but you cant use that on the title screen. Hmm.

That's where I gave up. It's a nice level, but you need to fix: the early entry to the water room, fix that generator cabinet (not sure of the point of that), and add direction after backtracking through the maze. I would be happy to play again (from sub at least) if you fixed those or told me what I did wrong.
Some nice ideas visually and gameplay wise, just needs a little tweaking. Definitely worth a play!

(my f4f link in sig)
My reviews seem to be getting longer with each one, haha.

Okay, thousand thanks for the lenghty response!
-The Omega logo is a secret that unlocks Prizes/extra points at the end. I suppose I rushed in and republished the level before I added the info text ...
-Laser doesn't come far enough because I rushed in again... I'll make a health bar. The growlings also represent it's anger. I think I'll also make the gun have longer reload time, but infinite ammo.
-Yes, "mad skillz" is inspired by that
-Bomb gas is deadly, because it lenghtens their explosive radius by about 2x. I don't think I can add your way of damaging them, but making the paint switch visible should be good.
-The beast is supposed to be passed. I'll add a speech bubble.
-F4F is expected today, or tomorrow at least.
Thanks!
(All of the above problems are now fixed. You can play it again)

Oh yeah, and @adi: I did put more light. It should be clearly visible now, but have you tried adjusting your screen's gamma?

Hey, I played this a while back, it was a lot of fun. There were some very innovative new ideas, such as the submarine to give your self a constant supply of air. I also liked the beginning where you could start the level, or come back to where you left off, that was a cool idea. The maze sort of puzzle was really fun, and it looked cool. This level was very long, but I like that. Overall, this was a nice long level with decent visuals and gameplay through out it. Keep up the good work.

I rated it :star::star::star::star::star:. :arg:
