Keys, Keys, and well, Keys!

Hi everybody! I know this may sound like a very, um, nooby? Question but, what do keys do? I haven't been playing online until recently due to connection speed and I have published a few levels. But I get keys for them. I would like to know what these keys do. Do they allow people to copy your level? Or... I noticed you can lock a level. Is the key for that? Well anyway, thanks in advance! | 2010-02-21 01:31:00 Author: Gameplayer209 Posts: 9 |
well i think keys basically just unlock locked levels..... eg. i publish a lock level then send keys people who i want to help me test it so erhm yeah i hope you get it | 2010-02-21 01:34:00 Author: rseah Posts: 2701 |
Yes they are indeed. If you lock a level you can place a key in a diffrent level which will unlock the locked level and guide the player to it. It's useful for making long level series spread between multiple levels. eg. i publish a lock level then send keys people who i want to help me test it No don't send your friend keys they can't delete them!! The key will let people have access to your level, however what access they're allowed is up to you ;p Locked levels can only be played if a player has the key to that level, however giving someone a key will not make your level copyable, you need to set that up on your own if you want others to be able to copy your work. If a level isn't locked, a key will just connect the two levels with a path. Keys can be a great way to link together story levels, as a result of this. You can also send keys to your friends, but sent keys (as of yet) are not deletable from your popit, so if you need a friend to look at a level of yours you're not ready to share with the public, i reccomd using a Key room of some sort. Comphermc and V0rtex2002 both have some very nice copyable key rooms if you ever find need of one. | 2010-02-21 01:37:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Well say you publish level 2 levels. For ease we'll call them A and B. If you want people to play level A before B ( for instance if they are a series that follows on ) you can lock level B and then put the key you got for publishing that level somewhere in level A ( you just place it as you would any other object ) and then when a player picks up that key it will unlock level B for them so they can play that next. Be aware though that there is a bug with the keys which has been around for months now whereby some people ( myself included ) collect keys but for some reason they don't unlock the level. That's the reason I never personally lock levels i want people to play but that's your choice. Alternatively it's also a good way of directing players to your other levels even if they aren't locked. Just place as many as you want from whichever levels you like and in whichever levels you like. I'ts often best to just place 2 or 3 different ones in different levels though as it can be a bit annoying for players to keep collecting loads of the same keys in each level. But again that's your choice to make. Hope that helps. | 2010-02-21 01:42:00 Author: mistervista Posts: 2210 |
Wow! Thanks guys. I was a bit unsure but there were so many people willing to help me. So now I understand the whole key deal. Oh, and MisterVista, I'll keep the whole key bug in mind. O.K.? | 2010-02-21 01:50:00 Author: Gameplayer209 Posts: 9 |
I only just learned of the key bug via psn...i feel bad for SP now. hahaha But yes, what everyone else said! Although, wasn't there another bug that involved putting a key inside a prize bubble? I can't remember at the moment, but I wouldn't recommend doing that... | 2010-02-21 01:57:00 Author: Ragfell Posts: 729 |

I started laughing when you stated you wouldn't recommend doing that. It's funny because I could picture your voice. Uh, sorry if that sounded mean. | 2010-02-21 02:10:00 Author: Gameplayer209 Posts: 9 |

Picture my voice? -raises eyebrows- Besides the fact that you've mixed up two senses, it may or may not insult me...was it more a nerdy voice, a nagging voice...? | 2010-02-21 02:19:00 Author: Ragfell Posts: 729 |

people also use keys as a sneaky advertising trick. recently, mm made it so that when you finish a level is shows you all the levels you unlocked (collected keys for) but, there realy use is above | 2010-02-21 18:50:00 Author: samalot Posts: 591 |
