Features still not working
Archive: 23 posts
The 'New posts' button still doesn't work. I did several posts in the last hour or so and a few in the last 10 minutes but when I click 'New Posts' they don't show up on any of the pages let alone the first one. Also the 'reply with quote' option still isn't working. Whenever I try that I just get the spinning loading symbol which stays on forever and nothing ever happens. Are these things being fixed ? And please don't say change your browser for the 'reply with quote' problem because I have no idea how to do that and wouldn't want to anyway because I'm perfectly happy with IE8 which works great for everything else on my PC and it worked perfectly before you changed the site. It's the site that's stopped working properly and not my browser. Thanks. | 2010-02-21 01:20:00 Author: mistervista ![]() Posts: 2210 |
Is no-one involved with the running of the site going to reply ?? | 2010-02-22 11:55:00 Author: mistervista ![]() Posts: 2210 |
Not someone involved with running the site, but I am pretty sure new posts only shows up posts that you haven't read. Anything you have posted will count as having been read, so will never show up there. I'm pretty sure this was the same before the update. As for the reply with quote, I've personally never had any problems with it, so I can't help you there. | 2010-02-22 12:42:00 Author: rtm223 ![]() Posts: 6497 |
New posts don't show my posts either. I think RTM is correct that it was this way prior to the new version as it is something you already read. Unless of course you are like me you type with your eyes closed. ...oh no... my secret is now out! ![]() Personally.. I had so many issues with IE8 crashing regardless of what site I was on, I switched to Firefox. Best of luck! | 2010-02-22 14:27:00 Author: jwwphotos ![]() Posts: 11383 |
In regards to the first issue, the two posters above are correct: it's not a bug, it's a feature. As to the second problem, would you mind being more specific about what problem you're having? "Not working" is too ambiguous to help me nail down why the problem exists. | 2010-02-23 00:10:00 Author: ConfusedCartman ![]() Posts: 3729 |

When I used IE the reply with quote would take ages to Load, sometimes not s At all, when I switched to safari those problems got fixed, so... | 2010-02-23 07:11:00 Author: Kern ![]() Posts: 5078 |
I reported this problem in the other thread once. CC had a decent workaround: doubleclick it, and you are taken to a new page where you can reply with quote. Talking of problems, I still don't jump to the correct spot when I click on first unread post (using IE7/8). | 2010-02-23 09:22:00 Author: Rogar ![]() Posts: 2284 |
@CC : How am I being too ambiguous ? If you'd read my post I told you exactly what the problem was but to make it easier for you I have now highlighted it in red. | 2010-02-23 11:46:00 Author: mistervista ![]() Posts: 2210 |
Also the 'reply with quote' option still isn't working. Whenever I try that I just get the spinning loading symbol which stays on forever and nothing ever happens. Are these things being fixed ? If you click on "reply" twice, you will be taken to the "Go Advanced" page, which will contain a quote from the person you are responding to. Sure, it takes two button presses, but it's just the same button twice. Edit: I need to learn to read others' posts. Thanks, Rogar. | 2010-02-23 12:44:00 Author: comphermc ![]() Posts: 5338 |
Oh, another thing... am I not supposed to get a notification for subscribed blogs, or is that broken? | 2010-02-23 22:07:00 Author: Rogar ![]() Posts: 2284 |
The 'New posts' button still doesn't work. Which is the 'new posts' button? I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but I'm having a problem with the "Go to first new post" button immediately to the left of the thread title. The returned URL doesn't have a fragment on the end (like #post12345) nor does it seemingly use the JavaScript scrollTo() function, so I don't see how it can possibly work for any browser. The result is that you end up on right page, but at the top of the page, rather than at the post in question. After writing all that, I noticed there is a button at the top which reads "View First Unread", but it would be nice if the "Go to first new post" button automatically did that for you. Also the 'reply with quote' option still isn't working. Whenever I try that I just get the spinning loading symbol which stays on forever and nothing ever happens. I have the same problem with IE8. I'd guess it's some broken JavaScript at fault, but you can bypass that by middle-clicking on the link, which opens up a reply form in a new tab. I prefer opening in new tabs anyway, then I can quickly switch back to the original thread if there's something in there I need to refer to. FWIW, the problem appears to be with the statement... var D=I.parentNode.insertBefore(J,I.nextSibling); ...in vbulletin_quick_reply.js, but good luck debugging such a clearly obfuscated piece of code. ![]() | 2010-03-05 17:07:00 Author: Aya042 ![]() Posts: 2870 |
Which is the 'new posts' button? Its labelled as "What's New (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post)" | 2010-03-05 18:36:00 Author: Kern ![]() Posts: 5078 |
Its labelled as "What's New (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post)" Ah. That's really useful. I don't suppose it lists new blog posts too? | 2010-03-05 20:14:00 Author: Aya042 ![]() Posts: 2870 |
Ah. That's really useful. I don't suppose it lists new blog posts too? Yep ![]() | 2010-03-05 20:19:00 Author: Kern ![]() Posts: 5078 |
Yep ![]() I kinda meant in the same list, but I just figured out that the advanced search will let me merge results for different types. That should make things a little easier. | 2010-03-05 20:30:00 Author: Aya042 ![]() Posts: 2870 |
You really can't point the blame at the site itself for IE's shortcomings. Seriously, take it from a former IE user, Firefox is LOADS better. | 2010-03-05 20:48:00 Author: Astrosimi ![]() Posts: 2046 |
weird its working for me hmm weird.... | 2010-03-08 05:00:00 Author: puppet88 ![]() Posts: 113 |
I just found out that the problem with the 'reply with quote' button not working is with this site and not my browser. It works if I click on it twice here but on LBN which uses the same vbulletin thing it works perfectly first time for me. | 2010-03-09 01:10:00 Author: mistervista ![]() Posts: 2210 |
I was having the same problem ever since I joined but just today I've discovered it's working properly and I don't have to click reply with quote twice now. Was there actually a problem that got fixed just recently? | 2010-03-13 01:26:00 Author: SR20DETDOG ![]() Posts: 2431 |

Was there actually a problem that got fixed just recently? Nope. Just tried and it still needed 2 clicks for me. | 2010-03-13 01:29:00 Author: mistervista ![]() Posts: 2210 |
Nope. Just tried and it still needed 2 clicks for me. Ok, that's weird, just replying to you now needed two clicks. It was working just before, strange. | 2010-03-13 02:13:00 Author: SR20DETDOG ![]() Posts: 2431 |
I just found out that the problem with the 'reply with quote' button not working is with this site and not my browser. It works if I click on it twice here but on LBN which uses the same vbulletin thing it works perfectly first time for me. Maybe its the amount of active users? | 2010-03-13 18:34:00 Author: Kern ![]() Posts: 5078 |

The result is that you end up on right page, but at the top of the page, rather than at the post in question. I took the liberty of fixing this, since it was bugging me. I hope that's okay with CC. Seems to be a known issue (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?338111-4.0.1-quot-Go-to-first-new-post-quot-issue-fix) with v4.0.1 and is fixed in v4.0.2. I backed up the original copy of class_core.php as class_core.orig.4.0.1.php, and applied the following patch to class_core.php... *** class_core.orig.4.0.1.php 2010-03-31 11:03:23.000000000 -0700 --- class_core.php 2010-03-31 11:08:35.000000000 -0700 *************** *** 2643,2648 **** --- 2643,2655 ---- $this->registry->relpath = $relpath; } + // XXX: backported patch from v4.0.2 + if ($fragment = parse_url($path, PHP_URL_FRAGMENT)) + { + $relpath .= '#' . $fragment; + } + // XXX: end backport + return $relpath; } ...so now the "Go to first new post" button to the left of each thread title will automatically scroll to the first new post. | 2010-03-31 19:25:00 Author: Aya042 ![]() Posts: 2870 |
