Piston troubles
Archive: 6 posts
{don't even think about making a joke about the title!] Ok, here's the problem. In my level, i've got some pistons attached to a grabbable platform which are stiff, and a grab switch hooked up to the plaform set to inverted direction mode. Normally, when i grab the grabbale, the piston would retract like it's supposed to. Now, though, it jsut doesn't work. Could this be a glitch or something, or do i need to remake it? | 2010-02-18 07:16:00 Author: RCIX Posts: 250 |
The grab switch is set to direction, right? It may be that the pistons aren't acting in parallel (you can test this by cutting the platform so that they act independently, rewind afterwards). Try using only one piston, or build the whole thing in grid mode. | 2010-02-18 08:41:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
How long have you been making this level? If ur passed the 160 hour limit (or whatever it is) then pistons and wobble bolts etc stop behaving properly. If the piston has a really short retraction time (i.e. 0.1-0.3 seconds) then u might need to increase that time limit. If not, then its probably just the way uv made it... is it glued to something perhaps? | 2010-02-18 08:48:00 Author: ladylyn1 Posts: 836 |
try redoing the piston and switch and build it in grid mode like Rogar said. sometimes using a new piston will work. | 2010-02-18 08:58:00 Author: trip090 Posts: 1562 |
I have it set to 0.5 seconds, and it just occured to me it might have been accidentally glued, ooops! thanks for the help guys! | 2010-02-18 09:36:00 Author: RCIX Posts: 250 |

Do you have multiple pistons connected to the same object - that will cause you issues unless plan ahead TBH and it's rare that you need more than one. Is it possible that it is catching or dragging against something? Friction can kick in sort of randomly with piston driven mechanics so it's best to leave tiny clearances. It's probably something simple, but with these things you can often investigate for ages and mybe not work it out, or just scrap it, forget it ever happened, and restart which may well be quicker (out of sight, out of mind ) | 2010-02-18 09:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |
