Locking your viewing angle zoom when creating or transparent unselectable objects.

I don't know about you guys, but when I have a ton of stuff on the screen with multiple layers, sometimes its almost impossible to select an edge (with connecting a piston for example) because other stuff is in the way. Many times I can get my viewing angle and zoom perfect to perfom the task, but once I start to TRY to put the connection on, the viewing angle rotates and Im forced to move everything out of the way, add the connection, and then put everything back. Sometimes it would be nice just to temporarily lock your view. Of course having an invisible layer option where you can tempoarily hide stuff would be nice, but Im sure that was already suggested before. Or even if you can make an object temporarily transparent and unselectable would be another approach, so that it's interference detection was still there, just not the ability to pick it. Tip: The one workaround I found around this is to actually add a "Camera Zone"Object to look where I want to look. Then it forces the view I want. Then I can just move my camera zone object around as need be. This involves extra work, so having the ability to do this without the camera zone object would be my suggestion. | 2010-02-17 15:40:00 Author: tonytough Posts: 11 |
If you own two controllers, you can use the second controller to do the editing and help with this issue. I posted a thread a while back about some tricks in create mode with two controllers: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17905-Using-two-controllers-in-create-mode-tips It would be better if there were other ways to lock the viewpoint in place though (preferably not in a sub-menu), unfortunately I think all of the buttons (except maybe the Select button) are already mapped to something in Create Mode. | 2010-02-17 15:49:00 Author: Gilgamesh Posts: 2536 |
Hey Gilgamesh, great suggestion, i'll look at your other tips. Thanks! BTW, they can always have a double tap of a button to do a lock and unlock . | 2010-02-17 15:57:00 Author: tonytough Posts: 11 |
unfortunately I think all of the buttons (except maybe the Select button) are already mapped to something in Create Mode. The L1 button dosen't do anything apart from view people's names when you are in multiplayer. | 2010-02-17 16:16:00 Author: FlipMeister Posts: 631 |
I had made a suggestion in another thread that mapping the L1/R1 buttons to layer-target your connectors would easily work around this problem. So when your piston auto-snaps to the wrong layer, you tap R1 a few times to move it to the right layer and plant it down. Beats pre-connecting it elsewhere then moving the end to where you want it. | 2010-02-17 17:22:00 Author: Thegide Posts: 1465 |

Doesn't solve the issue of trying to get at something just-around-the-corner, though. | 2010-02-17 18:19:00 Author: comphermc Posts: 5338 |
Whenever I need to sticker in some tricky angles, I exit hovermode and plop a camera down. As for your second suggestion, people have suggested a layer visibility tool, and we definitely need that. | 2010-02-17 21:33:00 Author: Incinerator22 Posts: 3251 |
