Wow, kinda glad we didn't end up entering now. This looks great. Seeing as the other entrants don't even know how to use LBP, I think you guys can totally take this one!

Good luck to you guys!

The application only has two names, so I would assume it's only them. The project seems pretty ambitious from reading the full description though.

To the Moon and Beyond is a series of levels within LittleBigPlanet aiming to educate players in regards to science, technology, engineering, and math, while engaging them through a compelling science-fiction story. The player assumes the role of a student enrolled in the futuristic Alpha Centauri Space Program aspiring to become an elite space explorer. Many lessons taught to the player occur within the "Holoroom", a place capable of simulating any possible scenario. The holoroom introduces the player to an array of important scientific figures and paradigm changing human events. Utilizing the powerful physics engine of the game itself it teaches scientific principals, mathematics and the practical applications of these concepts and ideas through innovative gameplay mechanics. Stunning visuals and amazing storytelling takes the player from the very beginnings of human science through the 1960's moon landing and beyond to the future of human space exploration.

Guys let's team up and make a monocicle level and take the prize. The level will teach you about the evolution of the wheel.2010-02-17 18:33:00

If you guys win, and I really hope so, the first thing you have to do is buy a gift.
A new PS3 and a copy of LBP for NinjaMicWZ, so that he can be back sooner.
^______________^
I'm not kidding, so good luck. TWICE

Can I have another nutshell about the prizes? 2010-02-18 00:11:00

Yes. If you win the contest, you will be given X amount of money to continue your work (if not finished), or to expand upon it. Given the scope of what they've put forth, it sounds like they would need to finish it. The winners can receive up to $50,000 (you do the conversion) as such, and there are other smaller prizes for lesser winners in other categories.

To be honest, from reading other entries, the submitted projects are from people who have little-to-no LBP creating experience and just want money. Hence, I think these two could easily run away with this thing.

Holy Cow! Just got home from work and saw we were on the blog. Leo made that video last night and I thought I'd share it in projects. There are a lot of great ideas and proposals over there at the DML competition website. I really can't wait to see what kind of stuff comes out this whole thing. It's a great idea for a competition and the STEM aspect of the guidelines is a perfect fit for the wonderful engine that LBP has. It's rather interesting cause I still have a lot of questions about how the competition "works" but as for an earlier comment I don't think it's a winner take all type of scenario. There are twelve different award categories for LBP and Spore creations and the foundation will probably fund more than one project for further development. I think.

Comphermc. What happened? I thought you were entering with a Logic proposal. Seemed like a perfect fit to expand on all the STEM concepts. That makes me sad to hear your not doing it.

All sounds good. I couldn't work out whether it was literally a money prize or whether the money had to be used to further the project in some way.

Good luck guys!

That takes the weight off my head where I was like "gah... of all the times I should be able to enter a contest and can't!" since it's not cash... but, on the flipside, if Jaeyden and Leonidas win (which they will), they will get to continue their ambitious project in even grander fashion and basically get paid to do what they're already having fun doing... which is pretty cool too, even if it's not cash money.

Too bad though, I wanted to see Jaeyden buy a gold and diamond grill and get a PS3 put in his new lowrider.

I'm sure there's an accountant somewhere who knows how to write those off as business expenses.

Yeah, definitely...

"I need 1001 green m&m's and a 30 cases of mountain dew pitch black if I'm going to finish this on time!"

"...but sir, they don't make that brand of mountain dew anymore..."

"I don't care if you have to go to the dusty backroom of every convenience store in every 3rd world country, you will get me my drink of choice!"

"Yes sir. At once."

We really dropped the ball. The deadline was 5:00 on Monday, which I missed due to studying for exams (3 of them the following day). Then, they gave us an additional 24 hours to resubmit our initial proposal, but I was in class all day. But... all is not lost. I think you guys have the better project idea. I'm not sure our project really fit with what they were looking for.

Yeah, it's too bad, but the world keeps on spinning.

I don't think you dropped the ball Comph as you submitted the initial proposal and reminded us all about the resubmission deadline. I had the time and I could have done something, but didn't. I'm kind of bummed now because I think we could have done something cool, whether it was with the Logic Pack or something entirely new. Oh well, this project looks very cool. Good luck guys!2010-02-18 15:06:00

Jaeyden and I regret to inform everyone that our DML contest entry To the Moon and Beyond was not chosen to move on to the next round in the Game Changers competition.

After Media Molecule and Sony featured our initial teaser and project proposal on their blogs, we worked tirelessly on the project in preparation for the next round. We created a three minute machinima/demo/trailer for the contest - finished and ready to be submitted - and although it's unfortunate and disappointing that we're unable to submit it, we nonetheless present you with our final trailer:
