Revenge of the BubbleEnochRoot http://i375.photobucket.com/albums/oo195/liampatrickberry/APhoto_6-3.jpgAn existentialist debate about a bubbles' right for self determination or just an excuse to crack some jokes and pop some bubbles?....you decide. Currently can be found loitering around page 3 of the cool levels. Having read the debate on LBPC about level backgrounds I was inspired to make this level. I've always been a fan of the MM backgrounds(especially combined with the extra layer or added level architecture), so while making this I tried using the Pantheon from the history pack and grotto from the monster pack but surprisingly it looked best with an empty background. Would appreciate your views. Happy to feedback on any level. Level also includes several glitched bubble effects and a bubble-cam which I would be interested in hearing if I should add these as level prizes. Thanks for your time. Unique fun lvel. The scenery could use improvement, bur bubbles use alot of thermo don't they? I'd love a sequel were you expandedon the idea(popping bubbles for puzzles etc?) | 2010-02-16 23:16:00 Author: Unknown User |
I absolutely loved this level! It was so funny and easy to play. I'd have to say it is a "Must Play"! Those bubbles are pure evil!! It is kinda like Alice in wonderland for LBP. | 2010-02-17 00:30:00 Author: fijski8 Posts: 159 |
Played this earlier and i thought it was really great, lots of entertaining dialogue and loved the visuals of the bubbles on black. Gameplay wise, its very simple, but the narrative is where the real fun is here, i lol'ed several times at the predicament my Sackboy was facing. Nice work Enoch, you're one of the best creators out there for telling a tale. If i had any suggestions, its the latter stages of the level that didn't quite keep up with the stylish visuals of the first half, i could imagine the arena looking completely epic, it was a little too basic i thought.. The distance between checkpoints in this section of the level also meant quite a lot of running to get back into the action if you died. | 2010-02-18 02:55:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |

Thankyou very much for the positive feedback folks. I will F4F on saturday (my next day off work). I've already tried some of your levels and will post the feedback inyour level threads. The level is currently on page 2 and will pop off at the end of the day. it achieved a pretty good heart to play ratio. @Paddy and julsey you're both right about the scenery architecture and I'll be improving that in a while. Really just a fun level with a twist, maybe trying to get folks to think more creatively about the use of bubbles. @Fijski thanks for the comment on the level, glad you liked the originality. @Jspot...thanks dude,do you have a level you would like me to try? | 2010-02-18 10:46:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
haha, really enjoyed your level Enoch (and seeing you here reminds me how I haven't visited LBN in some time....) It had charm and one of the funniest stories around. I was using the full range of my sackboy's emotion as I travelled through this whole bubbley world you hd created. Just a couple of things to point out: 1) Sometimes things were a bit slow in activating, mainly speech bubbles that just left me waiting and kinda confused as to what to do 2) Some speech bubbles had cutscenes that ruined good combo's (mainly when you've just broken out of the arena and you're collecting the bubbles that were watching Other than those minor points though, a little more scenery would have been nice. Either way, I really enjoyed the effort put into this, so I five starred it and gave it a big ol' heart Oh and I'm sure I'll be popping over to LBN soon to see how things are | 2010-02-18 13:10:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
In my opinion, the story runs very nicely and the comments are actually fun to read, rather than being annoying. Though the bubble world should really decide if it's going to be abstract or realistic. It being both makes it to be more like "all the other" places. Also, could there be an alternative for constant dying? On the good side, I really liked Bubblopolis and it's unique atmosphere, plus the level toys nicely with collecting bubbles. Something that's barely relevant in most levels. The jokes were funny too.:hero: :star::star::star::star: If you have time for F4F, I'd want a review on "Vihern: the Jungle City." Just search my name. | 2010-02-19 20:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hey Enochroot! Had a really good time playing this level, great sense of humour, visual effects, super-originality... I like the "ironic" point you give to your levels, and this is no exception. Keep it up! | 2010-02-19 21:01:00 Author: poms Posts: 383 |
lol i died so meny times lol good job | 2010-02-19 21:33:00 Author: WESFUN Posts: 1336 |
Thanks for the feedback guys, have F4F'd today! @Coxy Yiou're right about the speed of the speech and I'll adjust the timing. The combo breaking by dialogue was implemented in the hope people would play a second time using a circle button strategy to achieve a higher score. @asterix I did make a version with no scenery and it was too stark for most observers. @ Poms ...I'm glad you got the irony, seems a lot of players are happy to post negative commentary on levels without even trying them therefore missing the irony, this happened a lot on my "Lie..." levels. great new level spice & co. a must play. | 2010-02-20 19:33:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Thanks to the feedback from Poms, coxy,Julsey, fijski and everyone else.....as a result I improved the visuals slightly in the latter stages. As a result it came joint second place in the LittleBigReviewers.com April Tales contest. Currently has 1000 hearts in about 7000 plays, just goes to show how useful feedback can be if you listen to it. Happily F4F if you fancy taking a peek. | 2010-05-10 19:00:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
This level gave me a lot of laughs. Great idea. I dont think I have seen anyone use bubbles like you did here. Really like the arena bit. I was actually in suspense until I realized the bubbles' defenses were off. Great visuals. Even the parts with the blank background looked nice, because of the way they were done. 5 stars and a heart. I really enjoyed this. Please F4F if you get a chance. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=26232-Situation-Simulator(Now-with-video!) | 2010-05-11 01:48:00 Author: DreJ1212 Posts: 240 |
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha. Gameplay? Crap to meh. Visuals? Pretty good, esp. the unpoppable bubbles on black. Humour? Off the freakin charts. I doff my cap to you, sir. Please review Arbitrary Platformer 2. | 2010-05-11 07:21:00 Author: roux- Posts: 379 |
Thanks DreJ and Roux, glad you both enjoyed the level and caught the humour. It's difficult to convey humour in LBP and what usually passes for humour is dropping a bomb on a sackboy with LOLZ stickered somewhere nearby. Glad the minimalist visual effects worked in the areas you both noted, will be adding all the unpoppable bubbles and bubble cam as gifts sometime soon. Have played both your levels and will F4F. | 2010-05-13 17:58:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Loved this level. So many enjoyable moments and humor throughout. The story is interesting, and it was extremely satisfying to pop all those bubble people! (as mean as it sounds, especially the big dude.) Any plans for a remake in LBP2? | 2011-01-18 06:07:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
Pretty nice premise. Though this level has been up for a while, I'll give it a shot. | 2011-01-20 02:29:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |

Thanks for the feedback Midnight_heist, Glad you enjoyed it. it 's still a pretty unique concept and the feedback has been very positive but I won't remake this on LBP2. I see to many straight ports from LBP1 being published on LBP2 with just a little tinkering. It seems that folk can't be bothered to reach into their imaginations for new level inspiration, that or they just want the publish a level achievement. I will however be using some of the techniques to make a full blown sequel created from scratch on LBP2 with all its great scifi themed content. Also worked out a new concept for a level using the same ideas coming to LBP2 soon. http://lbp.me/v/rb3hws/comments <-- LBP.me link Thanks for giving it a go OcamposMoon, I have improved it slightly recently and will be interested in your views. | 2011-01-20 11:21:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Enoch, I played your level and I must say I felt creeped out rather than laughing, though, the premise is still funny. The background at the beginning could have used some work, in my opinion, and the settings in general. However, the level felt creepy since there was nothing to the bubble land part of the level and the execution of it was well done. And yes, I was tempted to pop all of those bubbles so the whole mess would be over. Overall, I give this level :star::star::star::star::star: but no heart since the backgrounds felt a bit empty, unless you were intending it like that. Good job! By the way, if it is possible, could you play my level Sanctuarium? The link to the details is on my sig below. If you did play it, then can you please post your feedback on the level thread? | 2011-01-20 23:31:00 Author: OcamposMoon Posts: 135 |

I'm glad you found the level a little unsettling OCamposMoon, too often people just enjoy the humour without picking up on the sinister twisted nature of the level. Here the LBP universe is flipped on its head...the bubbles tormenting the sackboy! The starkness of the background is meant to amplify the strangeness of the bubble dimension (well that and the fact the thermo went kaput!) Thanks for the five stars and I will hit your level tomorrow and feedback, hope you didn't have any nightmares featuring giant bubbles...they are watching us you know?! | 2011-01-21 19:20:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Great story level, with some ingenious cinematic gameplay and a great sense of humour built in. I am unsure if you have ever been asked the question but I am guessing your influences are not so much other LBP creators, but rather movie directors. I loved the dream / nightmare feel at the start, all shot in pitch black. However my favourite bit would have to be the gladiator scene when you get up into the great Very well done. Great job. Smiley face and hearted. | 2011-01-22 07:10:00 Author: MicGorbachev Posts: 372 |
Thanks MicG, glad you spotted the cinematic type feel. I've always tried to implement that in my LBP1 adventure levels and now with all the great tools at our disposal on LBP2 I'll try and improve that element. The trick will be to implement the movie element but at the same time offering some gameplay so its more of an interactive experience not just another lame movie level. Will be posting a LBP2 experience view of your level to see the difference this version makes.
