Help; Speed boat Motor

Archive: 8 posts

Well, I've been jotting down some ideas that i could create when i get back on eventually
My Idea was a fully functioning Speedboat motor, That you have to pull a cord 3 times to activate, This is the problem i am having as i can not think of a way to make a one shot, activate 3 times, and on the 3rd time Start up the engine; Also After that it requires a function that allows it to speed up when held, I have a tap/grab function which i assume could be used for this, However i need help with the problem above; Any suggestions?

Could you please either post pictures or write a text based summary, as i am unable to get onto my PS3 at this current time

Thanks in advance

You could feed your one-shot into an offscreen paintball emitter that fires at a target with a one-shot paint switch set to take 3 shots. You could probably even squish the mechanism down small enough to hide it in the boat if you want, but that could get problematic if the paintball emitter or target go underwater.

So when you say it speeds up when held, does it keep running regardless of whether you hold it and then if you hold it, it speeds up? Or do you just have to hold it to keep it running the whole time it gradually speeds up? Either way could be accomplished with a piston/speed switch combination.

Ah yes of course! Why didn't i think of that

Thanks to the previous answer i have a idea of how to do this

It keeps running, but when you hold it speeds up

now no stealing my ideas!

OK, I have an idea but it's fairly complicated, I'll do my best to explain it.

The cord to pull the boat should have two grab switches on it, set to directional and one-shot. To activate the boat, connect the one-shot grab switch to a counter switch (like the paintball switch suggested by Sehven). This then should activate a perm switch which turns on the engine (you could indicate this to the player by using an engine loop sound from the tools bag).

This perm switch also activates one input of an AND gate. The other input is the directional grab switch. When the AND gate is activated it moves a piston with another magnetic key slowly towards a magnetic switch (set to speedscale). This magnetic switch controls the motor for your speedboat. You could also attach it to the engine sound to raise the noise's pitch (like revving) as the boat goes faster. When the player releases the grab switch, the speedscale piston begins to retract, thus cutting the speed of the engine.

So the net result is: Three grabs to start the engine, and thereafter longer grabbing increases engine speed. Hope this helps! If you want me to help you out making this, send me a message, I'll be happy to help.
